Sapp Unlikely To Coach

February 13th, 2018

Too long of hours.

Since the Bucs waved goodbye to defensive line coach Jay Hayes, some Bucs fans wondered if the team would reach back to its history to help return the defense to its glory days.

Pro Football Hall of Famer and Bucs Ring of Honor member Warren Sapp in the past year or so has been active working with defensive linemen — current pros and prospective pros — to raise their game. This has sparked speculation Sapp might be interested in coaching with the Bucs.

But in a recent interview with WTVT-TV Channel 13 sports reporter Kevin O’Donnell, Sapp shot down any thoughts he may an assistant coach in the NFL or college. You can watch the interview below.

Also, even if a team was interested in bringing Sapp in on a full-time basis, this recent profile of Sapp in Sports Illustrated will likely give any owner or general manager or college athletic director pause before signing Sapp to a contract.

Would Joe love to see Sapp shove his big right boot between the butt cheeks of offsides-jumping, belly shirt-wearing, practice-hating, kicker-heckling, tree-grinding , non-contact-football-loving, chicken-wings-grilling, playing-time-squawking, TV-cooking-star, half-sack Swaggy Baker? You bet!

My concern with Warren Sapp coaching would be how short his fuse is, and his patience level. He doesn’t seem like a person who can control himself.

  2. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Now who in the hell would even wanna listen to this azz clown on the sideline?????

I’ve always said this when I was training out future leaders…..not everyone should be trainers or teachers

…….showing somebody how to do something is vastly different from being a leader amongst men…..and sapp doesn’t fit the mold

  3. LakeLand Says:

Warren Sapp is no fool,he knows you can’t coach trash. Go back to 2010, after the Bucs had overachieved and went 10-6. The dumb Bucs brass were crying about the lack of production from their D-line. Mainly it was GMC, Roy Miller and Brian Price. So they let DL coach Todd Wash go. Then they brought in 4 time All-Pro DT Keith Millard to replace him. Same results, GMC out for the season after 3 games. 3 sacks from Brian Price, nothing from Roy Miller. The Bucs went 4-12, the Glazers and Dominik fired the coaching staff.

    Deja Vu
The next D-line coach will walk in the same situation as Millard walked into in 2011.

And Warren Sapp has the vision to see it

  4. Joeypoppems Says:

Im assuming this is the video DB55 posted yesterday asking if he was talking about GMC lol

  5. AlteredEgo Says:

Sapp does not have the dedication to be a coach….

  6. R.O. Says:

“Unlikely” is a little understated. “Will Not”

  7. Waterboy Says:

Lol after reading the sports illustrated article with Sapp talking about concussions, I don’t think Sapp has any intentions of doing anything else in life that requires him to live by strict rules or be subjected to media scrutiny.

  8. Couch Fan Says:

I dont think Sapp would make a good coach either but he would for sure hold these guys accountable which would in turn make the D-Lineman cry like girls and the fans would hate him for being a big ole meany.

  9. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Then bring in Simeon Rice!!!!!! He’s looking for work, he needs the money and he already has a connection with Spence..what more can you want????

OH WAIT< it's the Bucs..never do anything right, so why should we get excited?

  10. AlteredEgo Says:

Rice is too busy in the private sector….entrepreneur’n

  11. tmaxcon Says:

bring in a qualified coach with a big freaking stick to wake up these underachieving soft d-lineman up. Give him enough authority and back him up to hopefully prevent the traditional 4 to 5 flat performances each year led by captain blowout. never going to happen though… glazers are more concerned with these losers feelings than putting a winning and respectable team on the field each sunday

  12. tmaxcon Says:

but of course it does not matter who coaches until the leader of the losing culture is infecting another roster.

  13. 813bucboi Says:

if rice showed spence techniques he’s never seen, im sure sapp has a few GMC and other could learn from…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  14. Rod Munch Says:

Sapp as a coach would be a thing of beauty – if he’d take the job I’d hire him in a second. Heck I’d make him head coach for that matter. You want a fired up team that will run through a wall for their coach, and you want a head coach who basically cut wrestling promos in every TV interview – yes, make it happen. Football is entertainment – it’s not life and death – people pay to be entertained and I have no doubt Sapp would get attention and make an incredibly bland and boring franchise great again (as head coach, as a d-line coach he’d make them moderately more interesting).

  15. Rod Munch Says:

Rice as player/coach would be another. Seriously, if Rice thinks he can play and he can pass a physical, I’d let him at least try, why wouldn’t you let him try? When you’re the worst, you should do things differently in hopes of a quick turnaround, and who knows. With that said I don’t think there is any real chance he’d ever play again, but I’d keep him around as a coach – a link to the glory years. I really love the idea of bringing in Rice and playing him in a preseason game just because you’d have a link from the SB team to Winston and the future glory years – from a marketing standpoint it’s fantastic.

  16. John meeks Says:

Sapp would slap one of these soft defensive linemen we have on this team.the first time #93 picked an opposing player off of the ground, his big soft a$$ would be on the bench.sapp couldn’t deal with this new generation of players today,no way!

  17. DB55 Says:

Funny how joe gives credit to other posters but not me, it’s all good bro I luv you anywayz.

And you know darn well Sapp is talking about the overpriced lover in the house NOT Swaggy.

  18. Joe Says:

Now who in the hell would even wanna listen to this azz clown on the sideline?????

Does Clinton McDonald in any way impress you as an “azz clown?” He works out with Sapp.GMC consults with Sapp regularly. And that’s just Bucs players Joe knows of not counting other NFLers.

  19. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I wish Sapp would coach. It wouldn’t be long before some player kicked his azz.
He’s too old and over the hill to take on the young bucks and besides he’s grown too used to beating up women who don’t have the strength to fight back.

I assume you all followed Joe’s link to the SI article…if you haven’t you should but this information has been widely available. Again as the son of a wife beater when I hear someone like Sapp defend himself by saying if he REALLY wanted to kick a woman’s azz it would be kicked to be disgusting. A man who puts his hands on a woman is NOT a real man but a low life knuckle dragger…like my old man!!!! Sorry Ohio Buc for the exclamation points but I feel strongly about men who hit women after seeing it up close and personally for so many years.

Meanwhile what’s wrong the dude who just lost his DL coaching gig in Arizona when Arians left? He has no patience. You don’t have to scream of yell to send a very clear message. That’s what the bench is for. Remember when mild mannered Koetter told ASJ to take a hike. That’s actually far more effective than screaming. BENCH THEM. Swaggy should have taken a seat long ago and I don’t care how weak the backup was. If you want to really send a message…SEND IT.

  20. Mike Johnson Says:

At least he’s man enough to say..HELL NO. And why would he want to coach under or with a DC who is not even on the field with him during the games?
Warren ain’t the brightest candle in the shop but he sure ain’t no fool either!

  21. Patrick in VA Says:

Maybe one of the oddest things that I’ve seen in quite some time. Warren Sapp sitting beside Malcolm Gladwelll on a panel for something…. they really went out of their way to get some wildly different personalities on there to weigh in on that topic.

  22. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Sapp and GMC are good friends. Sapp LOVES McCoy. I know that doesn’t fit the haters agenda, but it’s the truth.

As for Sapp being a coach, it just can’t happen. It doesn’t matter if he wants to do it and he is qualified to do it. The guy just can’t stay out of trouble. You can’t have that coming from the coaches. The only thing that’s worse than a player with a domestic abuse case is a famous coach with a domestic abuse case. We all know that happens every few years with Sapp. As a fan I don’t really care, but if I’m running the Bucs I wouldn’t let Sapp coach for free. It’s just too big of a risk.

  24. Destinjohnny Says:

    There would be no bs
    99 don’t play

  25. StPeteBucsFan Says:

99 don’t play? What does that even mean. Read the link! He’s got a bad hip bad knees what makes you think one of the young dudes wouldn’t kick Sapps sorry arse at this point? As far as I know you guys make fun of our “soft” DL but I don’t believe we start any women…that’s who Sapp has to whip these days.

He was NOT the team leader during our great defensive days. Brooks, Lynch and Ronde all had more respect. Some of you guys think if you’re not a jerk you can’t play football. Yeah…you would have run Leroy Selmon because he was such a class act. Do we suppose we’re going to see any highways named after a guy who beats up women?

  26. Elvis In STL Says:

Thank you for crushing my dream of bringing some swagger and intensity back to the defensive line.
