Scary Dozens

Bucs D-line coach Joe Cullen

Bucs D-line coach Joe Cullen

The Bucs tried hard in free agency but lost defensive end Trent Cole to the Colts.

Tampa Bay sniffed Greg Hardy long and hard, but he will roam the edge for the Cowboys.

The Bucs will do battle with the likes of George Johnson and Jacquies Smith. They’re the current go-to guys at DE. Combined, they have 12.5 career sacks.

Another dozen in the Bucs’ mix is 12 career sacks by Larry English. He’s the Chargers first-round bust from the 2009 NFL Draft. Those 12 sacks by English are the most by any Buccaneers DE.

There’s just not much quality history with these Bucs defensive ends.

Interestingly, 12 also is the total number of sacks Michael Johnson had through the 2010, 2011 and 2013 seasons.

  1. Buc-A-New Says:

Oh i thought this was about allowing 12 players on the field.

  2. The Buc Realist Says:

13 sacks for Adrian Slowborn, and that is 2011 thru 2014 without cherry picking years so the stats fit my argument better!

He was the other guy that Lovie Claus gifted a starting job to!!!

  3. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I thought it was in reference to the number of players likely to go on IR this season…

  4. Buc97 Says:

    It’s a shame we didn’t address this

  5. cmurda Says:

I thought the dozen represented the amount of starters we have that should be role players.

  6. Joe Says:

I thought the dozen represented the amount of starters we have that should be role players.

    🙂

Think that number was more like 18.

  7. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

if your trent cole or hardy why come here not be in a playoff run when you can play with 2 teams that could make the superbowl… the bucs may be 3 years from playoffs

  8. Rrsrq Says:

    **Junior Gillette**

  9. Leonard Scarnesi Says:

I thought this was about the number of analytical brain cells JOE has (combined). Surely the most accurate measurement of quantity for those is dozens.

  10. tmaxcon Says:

It’s also the number of offensive cordination Laughable Lovie Smith has burnt through in his mediocre coaching career.

  11. tmaxcon Says:

    ^^^^^ cordinators

  12. The Buc Realist Says:

its also the number of losses this year that will make Lovie Smith a career losing coach!!!!

  13. Buccfan37 Says:

I thought this was talking about the price of eggs, or eventual egg on the faces of Buc fans predicting 10 wins and above this season.

  14. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Sucks training camp and 2015 season starts this week and all though I think future is bright with jameis and evans, etc, have no faith in lovie and licht… i have a good feeling on koetter hope he doesnt save lovies job though

  15. Bucfan062798 Says:

I drank the Bucs Kool Aide when I was a baby. My dad raised me to luv or Bucs no matter what. Its been a rough 13 yrs. As you call it “The Den of Depression” has been my home since 2003. For the first time I truly have hope and believe. Being a ‘Nole as well i was ecstatic for my Jaboo.this was the first time I saw my team do what the fan base wanted, do or die, and what was best for the teams growth. I do believe in lovie and the front office. With Vjax, Gmac, LD 54, and the rest, with the likes of dirk koetter running O, and Lovie, Leslie, and hardy Nickerson on D, wetc all should have our hope returned. I will be there in sec 117 row R seats 17,18, 19 cheering my Bucs on to a winning season, and to a division title, and home playoff game. Am i Delusional? Probably, but how much fun is it to hate and not believe in your favorite team? GO BUCS!!

  16. The Buc Realist Says:

    @dusthy Rhothdes

I just have some nagging questions about Koetter, why come work for Lovie? Its a graveyard for OC’s. And then he did not get to pick out any of the coaches and assistants that are working under him. Just some thoughts, I know his rep and results are decently good.

  17. Pickgrin Says:

Smith and Johnson may be unproven – but I believe that at least 1 of them will hit double digit sacks this year.

Jacquies Smith was impressive last year once he got onto the field and I look for him to improve in year 2 and become a very solid player for this team.

We have a great D-Line coach who will milk every bit of talent he can out of this cast of nobodys.

Keep an eye on Fatinikum. Coaches and his teammates are high on his effort and potential.

  18. cmurda Says:

    @Realist,

Well, he’s got a nice setup on offense if you take away the entire offensive line. LOL. With that said, Dirk Diggler has proven he can run a solid offense without an O Line. If the offense shows nice improvement but Lovie’s defense flounders or is a crapshow coaching the team, the Bucs could represent a stepping stone likely right here in Tampa for him to be coach.

You must be new around here – LOL

  20. Bucs fan in NC Says:

Saint’s released Junior Galette….. Could be worth the risk to get a talented edge rusher like Galette! Do it!

  21. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Realist totally agree…. only thing of him coming is that maybe Lovie gave him assurances the glazers are giving lovie 3 years…. other than that not sure why? maybe lovie gave him total control of his offense no matter what… time will tell i guess

  22. Buc1987 Says:

    lol Pickgrin..

  23. BUCSLEGENDS Says:

@realist and tmaxipad, you guys crack me up !!!!!!!!

  24. cleanshave Says:

Jr. Gillette is ready to rumble! Primed and ready to attack the Saints if the Bucs are willing. With their ‘no pass rush D’ we shall see how willing they are if they sign him or not, somebody will, may as well be us….does any team need more pass rush them the Bucs?

  25. Joe Says:

Jr. Gillette is ready to rumble!

Yup. Just ask the women on the beach he belt-whipped.

FYI, he’s not named after the razor company.

Atlanta Falcons, they signed adrian slowborn so that makes them the 1 team that is worse than the Bucs!!!

  27. tickrdr Says:

    @Dusthty:

Maybe the Glazers privately told him that Lovie had only one year, and to stick around to see what happens. LOL

    tickrdr

  28. Buc-A-New Says:

I watched that video a few weeks ago. Being a scrapper I have come to the conclusion that he fights like a sissy.

  29. Tampa Tony Says:

Koetter as HC in 2016 bring in a aggressive defensive coordinator who will mix things up. Then we got something to look forward to

  30. The original "Kevin" Says:

Its a load of crap the way hardy and brady get slapped on the wrist for theyre actions.

Bellicheat and jerry jones get helped out but any other team wouldve been 6 game minimums. Pisses me off

  31. drdneast Says:

Buc Realist your hatred of all things Lovie is as boring and predictable as Joe’s continued references to Logan Mankins barbeque remark. You, along with the rest of the Lovie haters are just so unoriginal and as predictable as an afternoon Florida shower.
You are blinded by hatred that I can only guess is based on some sort of irrational fear. That is where most unfounded hatred comes from.

  32. The original "Kevin" Says:

At Tmax….I would bet big that if lovie interferes with the offense AT ALL during games and Dirk Koetters offense does not produce points….Lovie will be shown the door. I do believe he recognized this as his greatest flaw in his off season….but thats just me convincing myself what I want to happen will. I may be wrong. He may get the boot. I hope not though for the reason that every time there is a coaching change its basically rebuild time again. After the last ten years be should be the Tampa Bay Rebuilds

  33. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @drdneast

Hatred is born out of fear….but hatred is a very strong word to use to describe someone’s feelings about a person they don’t even know.
Lets just say that the Realist & others are simply just negative thinkers…..disgruntled losers….I…for example am a happy loser because as Buc fans we are all losers lately….it simply feels better to be a happy one!!!

  34. The original "Kevin" Says:

Realist has a good point…..why would koetter come here knowing lobies history??

Seems like he is settup for a promotion is lovie does what just about everyone is expecting him to do.

  35. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Here is the optimist’s #12

12 Touchdowns for ME13….tied with Vjax, ASJ, Kenny Bell, Sims & Martin
12 Sacks for GMC….tied with LVD, Johnson, Smith, Melton, McDonald & Spence
    12 Ints….for Banks…tied with Verner, McDougald, Conte, Wright & Jenkins (yep that’s 60 noc even counting Johnson’s 10.
    12 Rushing TDs for Winston
    12 Wins for the Bucs

    12 Cheesburgers for Shaun King

“Shaun King, one of two Buc Quarterbacks that lost a NFC Championship Game when his defense gave up 11 or fewer points.”

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Docena for Pablo’s dreams……Docena Tacos, Docena Putas, Docena Buc Wins!!! Pablo can dream with TBBF and the rest of his Buc fans”

  37. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Tampabaybucfan, I’ll say it again!!! It’s 9 points the defense gave up, not 11!!!! SAFTEY!!!’

  38. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Your giving King 2 extra points!!

  39. Couch Fan Says:

There was nothing positive to take away from last season. The ones who think Lovie is some great coach still are just going on blind faith which is fine. But its not reality. Lovie proved to be a incompetent coach who was incapable of leading a winning team. Even if he tanked last season, thats what most fans who aren’t going on blind faith saw. That doesnt mean he can’t/wont do a better job this season, but judging on last season I see nothing that suggests he’s going to be any better. I dont care what he did in Chicago. So far in Tampa, he’s worse than Schiano and Raheem.

  40. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @BuccaneEric75

I stand corrected….thanks…will make the change.

“Shaun King, one of two Buc Quarterbacks that lost a NFC Championship Game when his defense gave up 9 points.”

“Yup. Just ask the women on the beach he belt-whipped.”

That’s great then Joe. Tell him to bring his belt with him to Tampa, there’s a few guys on the team that need a good whipping!

  42. Buc1987 Says:

TBBF…all this time you’ve been doing it wrong. lol

  43. Buc-A-New Says:

I can’t believe as a Professional NFL LB that was probably raised in the “hood” that his fight game is so sorry.

  44. Buc-A-New Says:

But I digress. Let’s get to the part of life where the Bucs field a top 15 OL this yr and the Bucs win the NFCS!!!!

  45. bucsbedabest Says:

Debbie, Nancy and Ned. Your negative attitudes blind this website with gloomy antagonistic unenthusiastic dialog which continues to depress my already depressed state of mind. Koetter wanted to keep Warhop, Glennon and Martin. He went to a team with no where to go but up. He has a shot at replacing Lovie if this team does not turn it around. I don’t think many teams are going to pick up Junior Galette. He would fit right in with the Cowgirls.

  46. BucsFan85 Says:

I love how everyone has different views. Nowhere else can you find this amongst Bucs fans. That is why I keep coming back. Love it when Joe comments too. We are so close to real football I can smell it.

  47. BucsFan85 Says:

Read an article about T.J. Fatinkun, he sounds like he could really have an impact if given a chance. I understand that hype and true ability are two different things, but we need all the help we can get at DE.

  48. Buc-A-New Says:

85, I believe we are on the cusp of greatness despite all of the negativity spewed unnecessarily. I am not sure our OL will gel this yr but I am sure that IF it does we are an 8 win team. Well, noone is sure of anything but the sun rising in the east tomorrow unless it went supernova.

  49. BucsFan85 Says:

Buc-A-New, I think so too. Even if they don’t gel, we are destined to have a better line than last year. It won’t be that hard to accomplish. Plus added bonus: Our QB knows how to make it happen regardless of the mediocre OL.

  50. JJ Says:

Has Lovey and his staff done anything to make us better? I don’t credit them for having the worst record and making the consensus #1 pick. My wife could do that. What have THEY done?

  51. Buc-A-New Says:

Well, I am not going to go so far as to say that our OL will be better by default, but it would be hard for it not to be as well.
If we can field an average OL, which we Did Not have last yr, then we can win games!

  52. BuccaneEric75 Says:

    You da man TBBF!!!

  53. Buc-A-New Says:

Hey 85, just call me Buc! You will understand as you stick around. I am on double secret probation and hoping I pass. 🙂

  54. Buc-A-New Says:

    Sup BuccanEric!? How goes it?

  55. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Buc-A-New, the Sun WILL go Nova someday, but not Supernova. It’s too small of a star. LOL! I do think we are on the cusp though!!

  56. BuccaneEric75 Says:

    It goes good, ‘New!

  57. Buc-A-New Says:

Cool! So, we are kindred! Kinda like Brothers from another Mother!

  58. Buc-A-New Says:

Just call me Buc, bro. It’s all good.

  59. BucsFan85 Says:

Lol ok Buc.By the way, I thought we waited at least a couple years before we wanted the coaches head? Some people on here have their torches and pitchforks ready!

  60. BuccaneEric75 Says:

That’s cool! I’m laying in bet watching Colts highlights dreaming that it’s a preview for some Bucs ‘lights this season!

  61. Buc-A-New Says:

Some day Joe will let me have my name back. Regardless, though, I am always me.

  62. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Yea Buc, I don’t get the whole “name” thing. If the Joe’s know it’s you anyway, then what’s the big deal?

  63. Buc-A-New Says:

Of this I am not sure Eric. He has to know. Nobody here has a problem with me in any way other than die hard Nole fans who hate Gators. And I can’t think of one poster here that has ever had bad words with me.
Think of the first three capitalized letters of my current name.
I made Joe mad a long time ago. I apologized for it. We fought. This is his site so I will do as is necessary to post with the guys I love to talk to as Bucs fans. I write for another site, just a sports blog, but there are few NFCS fans there and even fewer Bucs fans. I come here to talk to y’all

  64. BucsFan85 Says:

Wonder what Buc’s name was before?

  65. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Buc, at least they let you post under a different name. You must have posted something really bad to get your name banned! Lol

  66. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I’m pretty sure I know his old name 85, but I’m afraid if I type it, ILL be banned! Lol

  67. Buc-A-New Says:

LOL, this is hilarious! Older posters will read this tomorrow and Laugh their proverbial a$$es off.

  68. Buc-A-New Says:

    Lol Eric 🙂
I am just a Die Hard Bucs fan that may have done a few too many Drunken posts, which I regret, that are still held against me. I like this site and a good deal of the posters here

  69. BucsFan85 Says:

One night all of my posts were “awaiting moderation” Don’t know why but i’ve never been banned. You’ve been a bad boy Buc. Lol

  70. Buc-A-New Says:

Heck, it is Sat nite and I am married with child. I am not at a bar. I am playing video poker and posting here, and working on a Training Camp article. Boring Saturday nite right!!!!

  71. Buc-A-New Says:

    I like you 85!

  72. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Lol Buc!! I’m pretty sure you still had your old name when I started coming on JBF. I didn’t start posting for a long time!

  73. BucsFan85 Says:

I hear ya Buc. I got 3 little boys& another boy on the way due in November. All

  74. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I know what you mean Buc! I made some DrunkPosts of my own a few times. I’m surprised I wasn’t banned! I woke up the next day and looked back at the comments and I couldn’t believe the things I typed!!

  75. BucsFan85 Says:

I hear ya Buc. I got 3 little boys& another boy on the way due in November. All will be raised bucs fans. I would like to read that article when you’re done. So excited for training camp.

  76. BucsFan85 Says:

Eric it’s so easy to drunk post isn’t it? LOL

  77. Buc-A-New Says:

I first came here in 2012. I didn’t frequent much until early 2013. I was a “BSPN” copyrighted by JBF, guy until they went All FaceBook on us.

Funny because this subject was one of mine and Eric’s first convos on this site!

  79. Buc-A-New Says:

It is only 8:30 here. You guys have to be more drunk than I am????

  80. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I hear ya’s Buc and 85! My oldest son is almost 19 and lives with his Mother. My other boys are 11 and 9. They just went to bed and my wife is working, so I’m here posting with you guys!! Lol

  81. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Your right Buc, I forgot about that!

  82. BuccaneEric75 Says:

It’s 10:30+ now up here in PA. No beer for me. I’ve been drinking way too much. I had a couple beers at a Bar not far from my house when I was posting on this article the first time, but I’m cutting out drinking at home. I was drinking non stop after work EVERY day from 4:30 till around 12:00! Wasn’t good. Just by not drinking at home, I’ve cut it down by at least 80%!!

  83. Buc-A-New Says:

See this is the reason I have been lobbying with Joe for years for him to get a better comment forum. Guys sometimes just want to be able to chat football or sht and it be more instant than it is here. Joe will say as he has told me numerous times, ” There is nothing wrong with this format”
Sometimes, wives are away, guys have a buzz and just want to talk about their team in a faster manner

  84. Buc-A-New Says:

Nice Eric. Sounds like you have a nice Fam. I only have one boy and he is my life.

  85. BucsFan85 Says:

You guys are both alright by me. Yea I have had a few…. drinks. Rum n coke for me. This site is a place I go to escape work/home life

  86. Buc-A-New Says:

Eric and 85, I have to take my Lab for her nightly session. I will catch you guys Monday night because I will be at the Lake picking Huckleberries all day tomorrow. I look forward to enjoying you guys’ posts more as the season goes on! GO BUCS!

  87. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Thanks Buc, they’re awesome! I think our boys are going to have something to cheer about this season! There is a Bar and Grill not far from my house that we go and watch the Bucs games. The downstairs is the bar area and the upstairs is the restaurant part. We have a reserved seat right under the big screen!!! We know the owner of the place who is a Rams fan. When the Rams aren’t playing he lets us watch the game in his private room!! You should see the size of THAT TV!!!

  88. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Yup, time for sleep! Good night 85. Good night Gator!

  89. BucsFan85 Says:

Yeah Buc I hear ya gonna play cards with the wife. I enjoy posting on here and will continue to support this site and our team this season! Goodnight fellas.

  90. Joe Says:

See this is the reason I have been lobbying with Joe for years for him to get a better comment forum.

You are going to have to explain in great detail a) what is wrong with the comment system; and b) how a new comment format will significantly increase traffic.

if you can document to Joe how a new comment software will significantly increase traffic, Joe is all ears.

Not sure how it can get any simpler than what it already is? You type, you click “submit.” All done.

What could possibly be easier than that?

Joe simply does not understand what your problem is with the comment system. Not sure which is your greatest pet peeve, your oft hand-wringing about what Joe thinks of you or your grousing about the comment system (since you comment so frequently, it must not be too onerous). Given the fact you are the lone person who gripes about the comment system, it’s really not worth Joe’s time even responding to you about it much less the work and cost to install a more complex program.

  91. Buc1987 Says:

Ugh my brain is frazzled from the political blogs. JBF, the Freeman debates, Schiano debates, and Winston debates have nothing on politics debates. It’s nice to know I have a place to come back to and mellow out.

I’m a rockstar in there, but damn it gets tough when you’re drinking. Especially when you’re outnumbered.

I don’t know why I put my brain through such torture.

  92. SteveK Says:

    Joe,

Some of the posters in JBF will change usernames because they are too WEAK to stand by their opinions. Pu$$y people, if you ask me. 💩

  93. Buc1987 Says:

Joe I think he wants a chat room. Atleast that’s what I can tell anyways judging by how many times he comments about this and that outside of football. A more free flowing way to communicate with fellow Buc fans. Like the days of AOL chat. A constant conversation about nothing but football or Bucs football. Then again he lives in Montana, not exactly a hot spot for excitement. I used to love AOL football chat back in the day, but that was fans of other teams bashing other teams fans. It was fun and I was a rockstar there as well. Those days are gone though. I don’t know why, they just are. I got into blogging via NFL.com, but most of the action was on gamedays vs the opposing teams fans.

As you can clearly see Buc A New and me like to talk a lot. So that’s what he might getting at. No complaints from me though. I can deal with this format just fine the older I get. I only have one problem with your site. It’s that damn edit button that we don’t have. Some of us make typos that screw up the meaning of what we are trying to say. So we are stuck with reposting what we meant in the first place.

Also I really do think that if you had a thumbs up or thumbs down vote on posts it would increase your traffic. I could be wrong, but I’ve seen what that does for the political blogs and it works quite well.

Either way I’m happy as a clam shell with your site and I’m sure your happy with me posting on it as well.

  94. Joe Says:

Joe I think he wants a chat room

That’s what it sounds like, but not sure. A chatroom, someone would have to babysit that constantly. A major, major time drain.

  95. Buc1987 Says:

@Joe…yup you are correct sir, but I don’t remember anyone monitoring the AOL chats it was pretty much anything goes. The comments would fly up and off the screen so fast anything out of bounds that was said would disappear rather quickly. It really was a free for all.

I like bogging just as well though, because I can take my time to make my points.

Oh well keep it the same for all I care. It’s your site and my home so I have no problem with it or else I would find a new home.

  96. Joe Says:

but I don’t remember anyone monitoring the AOL chats it was pretty much anything goes.

    They had monitors.

  97. Buc1987 Says:

Joe…they had filters. Certain words just wouldn’t go through. I’m not advocating for a chat room though.

Yes they had mods, but they were virtually non existent. Nobody ever came into the chat and said to knock it off with this and that. Perhaps with some chat rooms, but I don’t remember the football one being that way at all.

  98. Buc1987 Says:

I actually don’t see having a chatroom at JBF to be beneficial for you at all though. Although it might be fun though.

  99. Buc1987 Says:

    Good night Joe.

  100. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

What a bunch of dweebs, lol.

Lovie is going nowhere for AT LEAST 2 more years.

Dirk will improve the offense this year, but it won’t be good enough to land him a job elsewhere. His position is secure though because of the lack of talent on offensive line.

Anyone that thinks this team is less than a year away from truly competing is living in a fantasy. In the next draft, we’ll address oline, dline and MLB.

    THEN maybe we can compete.

  101. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Buc1987, they had moderators. They randomly move from room to room and respond to “Report” notifications.

I once built traffic on a website I designed to 75,000 unique visitors per day by using aol chat rooms back when they were a membership driven company. Did it using dialup too, because that was all there was back then, lol.

  102. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Buc1987, but I put my vote with yours. A chat room here would just result in pure insults all the time.

I concur Bonzai with your whole post I just singled out this line.

  104. Buc-A-New Says:

Joe. I apologize if you think I gripe too much. I remember Celly telling you the same thing about comment section and so forth and telling you he would help you on the back end Pro Bono. Maybe it is true that I want more of a Bucs chat room at times. What is wrong with that. I have told you for years that I enjoy this place. We have spoke about you not being a fan of livefyre etc. I have no probs or else I wouldn’t be here so much. Thanks for your work again.
    And to Steve K
I didn’t change my name by choice and your name calling bravado is really cool

  105. Joe Says:

Joe. I apologize if you think I gripe too much.

Not really. Just the same two subjects. 🙂

    No need to apologize.

  106. Malcom's Last Word Says:

There are so many idiots on this site posting. Lovie Smith is a great HC, this team was killed by Mark Dominic. Jason Licht and Lovie Smith walked into a total rebuild. When your depth on your team is players who should not be in the NFL is all you got, you don’t win much. These players where all Dominic and Schiano. To blame Lovie is pure idiocy. But I see there are many of you on here.

Buc-A-New reads like a speed freak to me. The commenting format is really good on this site, in my opinion. Don’t change what already works fine. And Buc-A-New, I don’t have a clue what your former name was.

Malcolm- incompetent Lovie Smith intentionally made Trash McCown our starting QB and we are the idiots? Perhaps you should consider utilizing an inner monologue prior to slinging your high value name calling? Or don’t!

Dallas…well his name says “Last Word” so perhaps it was his last word..

Thumbs up or thumbs down to make a comment disappear. Uh no, that seems totalitarian. Dissenting comments are good, variety is the spice of life. Free speech is where freedom rings. I read a politics blog where they had that up or down option to remove comments, you could still read them by clicking again, that was too time consuming. The hidden comments were often the better ones. They got rid of the option finally.

They don’t make a comment disappear. I’ve never seen that happen on any site that has them.

I just think it would be cool for fans that come here just to read Joe’s articles and our comments. They could voice their opinions via those thumbs up instead of having to post. I think it would bring more traffic to the site as well. It would give readers an extra thing to do instead of just reading our comments.

87- you effectively have that now based on whether someone has been insulted or not
