“Mac” In The Spotlight

October 19th, 2012

One guy rarely talked about in the Bucs secondary is veteran Brandon McDonald, Tampa Bay’s nickel cornerback.

But he’s been in that position since opening day, after joining the Bucs very late in the preseason, getting released with the final roster cuts, and then getting picked up again a few days later. (Here’s an interview Joe did with McDonald weeks ago.)

“I’m impressed,” Greg Schiano said of McDonald yesterday. “His work ethic, his attention to detail. This guy’s a pro.”

Joe brings up McDonald now because the high-flying Saints coming to town Sunday might just be the exact opposite style of the run-first, run-second Chiefs. McDonald will be front-and-center roaming the field trying to keep pace with all that Drew Brees has to offer.

Behind McDonald on the depth chart is Myron Lews and green rookie Leonard Johnson. That’s pretty darn scary.

In no uncertain terms, McDonald needs a huge game Sunday.

We don’t need a huge game from McDonald as much as we need a massive performance from the defensive line. This game is on McCoy and Bennett. They know it too.

CAnt wait for him to pick off brees! And the reason the game is going to be aired is because of the nice weather ive heard from lots of my friends they want to go because of the record and the match up!

this is where losing talib starts to hurt. maybe biggers can keep up with a team’s #2 guy, but with the spread offense teams you now have to worry about mcdonald, m. lewis, and leonard johnson playing against some capable and heavily utilized WRs. it will also be no picnic for our very young LBs to get their assignments right, i think defending the passing game takes more experience than being a run defender

Not a big fan of McDonald, but he’s who we’ve got…Lance Moore is pretty fast and I think you’ll see a lot of him.

Expect about 20,000 plus Aints fans on Sunday. Hopefully more Buc fans too but I won’t hold my breath.

We need a sack by Ronde. An interception by Wright.

    More Dominant run defense.

And to give Blount the ball 20 times.

    Victory. Guaranteed.

Justin said it best, this one is on the DL. Bucs need a pass rush to beat Brees and not one of those crazy blitz packages because Drew will cut them to pieces.

McCoy could shut up all his detractors forever by collapsing the pocket from the interior line on the undersized QB.

The last time we played the Aints I think LGB ran for 72 yards. Maybe we should let him ride the pine. Yes??
