Speedy Roy Miller?

Roy Miller shares his postgame thoughts

Every game looks different at the stadium. Some things just don’t translate well on television, and vice versa.

For Joe, sitting at whatever the Dolphins’ stadium is called these days, Roy Miller really looked exceptionally quick off the ball and moving laterally. What a surprise! He looked like a different player.

Miller burst in and pursued and tackled RB Daniel Thomas for a three-yard loss on the Dolphins second play of second quarter. Unfortunately, it was called back for a Wallace Gilberry offsides. But it was a heck of a play for Miller.

“I feel like this scheme allows me to play fast,” Miller said after the game. “I’m just excited that everybody is playing fast. It’s kind of early to make any conclusions. I just think we have to work and keep grinding to become consistent.”

What was different in leading up to this preseason game compared to past years, Roy?

“We’re so prepared for the game,” Miller said. “We go out there and everything just comes together. It’s exciting to be a part of it. It’s different from last year. It’s great to see everything come together on the field after the work we’ve put in.”

No, the Bucs’ pass rush didn’t scare anyone, but overall Miller looked strong and quick. He’s certainly already has surprised Joe, who expected little from Miller this season.

the more and more i hear players, etc talk about practice last year the more and more i realize how under water and overwhelmed raheem was.

from this article comparing this year to last: “We’re so prepared for the game,” Miller said.

    from the bill polian interview:
“There is no job description that prepares you for it. There is no job, in professional or college football where you have to make the decisions and have to do all the things a head coach has to do.”

raheem was not surrounded by football guys like schiano is. raheem had two “jobs”, head coach and defensive coordinator. also, he skipped steps before he became head coach. i believe each step builds on the previous providing valuable experience.

the raheem morris era reminds me of a substitute teacher trying to make the students like him so they don’t act out. but raheem didn’t have lesson plans to follow. when you wing it, it tends to show.

I was very impressed with Miller considering I was expecting much from him. he was quick, disruptive, and definitely shined. he did have some plays where he got blown off the ball, but he played good overall. maybe we were(myself included) to quick to call him a bust. hopefully he can show us some more of this throughout the preseason.

I knew he had it in him.

Still, I’m finding myself in need of an attitude adjustment. I’m hesitant to get over-hyped before the season starts.

OMG! “Preparation!” Do other coaches know about that?

Miller can play…..and he will continue to outwork his linemates in practice to get better.

Something tells me that quite a few players will change peoples mind’s this season.

For those of us who can actually diagnose D-line play, we are not surprised by Miller’s showing last night……I know I’m not.

  6. Paul Says:

I didn’t think he looked good. Also Cody Grimm looked terrible.

“I didn’t think he looked good”…………exactly my point- you don’t know what you’re looking at.

Thanks for proving my point about a large percentage of this fan base.

    @Paul You. Are. An. Idiot.

If you folks think back to last preseason, Miller tore his s MCL early in preseason and was back in time for week 1. A torn MCL will heal on its own, but the pain and inability to work out most likely lingered throughout the season. Miller was hurt early last season. He should definitely be better physically this season.

The job of a DT in most defenses isn’t necessarily to make tackles and sack the QB. It’s to penetrate, cause disruption, or tie up blockers to free up the LBs to make plays. If our DTs get up field and the LBs fill the holes, this defense will be much improved. Don’t just look at the stat sheet. Watch the game within the game to see what’s really happening.

  11. Paul Says:

@clayburn94 I saw him running around on stunts and such but with no pressures and he wasn’t getting any push, I saw him blown off his gap a couple times as well. and Cody Grimm whiffed on a big tackle on Bush and was a step late on a couple of passes.

There I explained myself, now you can explain yours. -talking to you clayburn94
