Local Scribe Votes For Belicheat

January 10th, 2011

"C'mon eye-Rah! would Belichick have answered that fetish question you had the nerve to hit me with?"

When a hometown media guy won’t vote for Raheem Morris as NFL Coach of the Year, it doesn’t bode well for the Bucs’ main man getting the award.

eye-RAH! Kaufman of The Tampa Tribune, the longtime NFL scribe and the Bay area’s one voter for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, said Patriots hooded thief Bill Belicheat is his man.

Coach of the year: Bill Belichick, Patriots. This was a very tough call between Belichick, Tampa Bay’s Raheem Morris and Todd Haley of the Chiefs. The Bucs and Chiefs came out of nowhere to win 10 games, but Belichick should be rewarded for his unmatched affinity to tailor game plans to personnel. The Pats are not overly talented, yet they posted the league’s best record as Belichick won at least 14 games for the fourth time in the past eight seasons. Pure and simple, he towers over his peers and this may have been his best coaching job.

To make matters worse for Bucs fans, the story went national via NBC Sports and, if votes have yet to be cast, could be influential among writers given Kaufman’s reputation.

Joe loves you eye-RAH!, but where was the hometown love? You picked the Bucs to win five games on TBO.com and they won 10 with a pile of injuries. Surely that five-game spread was greater for the Bucs than whatever you had picked for New England.

Joe’s still amazed that the media doesn’t seem to hold anything against Belichick for being a cheater, and spawning a cheater on his coaching tree.

Thanks Ira you ass. That’s the last time I buy his paper. Not only do we have fans that are goobers our own local media sells us short. I say all Buc fans boycott this jerks paper and cancel their subscriptions. Fans should fill his inbox and TBO with their displeasure about this idiot.

  2. RahDomDaBest Says:

Brad, you wouldn’t happen to know a guy by the name of JimBuc would you? If I was a bettin man I’d say he is you.

  3. Atrain WD40 Says:

Ira has a right to express his opinion and his logic is sound. I firmly believe Rah Rah is coach of the year but can’t really argue against Belicheat. The NFL felt his transgression was not bad enough to merit a suspension… So who am i to hold a grudge?

  4. Nicholas Carlson Says:

I’m so sick of the local newspaper sports writers in Tampa Bay “proving” how unbiased they are toward the Bucs with picks like these and constant negative coverage over their readers’ favorite teams. It’s old-fashioned and silly. It’s why I read JoeBucsFan first, and only find my way to one of their stories if it’s linked to from here.

  5. gotbbucs Says:

    opinions are like a–holes…..

  6. OB Says:

I don’t know if or why Ira is the only Tampa area Pro Football Hall of Fame. If this is true, then only one writer per market per team should be on the panel of voters. This would mean Los Angels would have none. Since I don’t believe this to be true, I question the statement.

Ira has been wrong on predicting the Bucs winning or losing most of the year. So hopefully he is wrong again.

If Raheem doesn’t get it this year, he will join his team in being screwed and will just have to win the SB next year, whereever it is, to prove their point, right now they are the most dangerous team in the NFL – period.

  7. BuzzSaw Says:

The Pats won big because they have Tom Brady. Yes, Belichick is a great coach but he’s a great coach EVERY year. As far as tailoring games to personnel, the Bucs had less “talent’ to work with than Belichick. Did he start 10 rookies? Ira Kaufman is a joke … the same guy who guaranteed that Bret Favre was a “done deal” to come to Tampa.

Hey, whatever happens, we all know that Rah is really the Coach of the Year!

  8. Adam Says:

    OB –

While I agree that the Bucs are up and comers, they still have a lot to prove. I love the Big Three (Freeman, Williams and Blount), but I want to see them grow and do even better next year…..how do you quantify “most dangerous” anyway?

“right now they are the most dangerous team in the NFL – period.”

  9. Ish Says:

Belicheat is the only coach I know of to have been caught cheating, admit to a history of cheating and show no remorse for cheating and then not forfeit any games and remain in his position AND receive honors. The man “tailors” his team by cheating. It’s easy to win if you know what the other teams defense is.

  10. lakeland bob Says:

At least the moron picked Mike Williams as offensive rookie of the year.

  11. lightningbuc Says:

“The Pats are not overly talented.” HUH? They have arguably one of the greatest QB’s in NFL history. Luckily for us, if his pick for coach of the year is anything like the rest of his prognostications, we should be ok.

  12. Gary Says:

If we can’t even get our local writers behind Rah for COTY, its over. I hope Rah, Dom, and the players use these snubs to motivate them next year.

And yes, the cheating angle of Belichick cannot be overlooked. The fact that McDaniels did the same thing proves it was systemic and ingrained in the Pats org.

What happens if Mike and Legarette get punked too? Man, that would prove once and for all that we have to go farther and higher than anyone else to get some respect!

  13. McBuc Says:

Welcome bacl RahDom…Buc You and Thomas need some support.

In my opinion the local scribes had as much to do with the lack of excitement and blackouts as anyone. All we heard in the off season was how terrible the team would be. Kind of like brainwashing readers.

  16. Dew Says:

I cancelled my subscription to the St Pete Times.

  17. Dew Says:

The Tampa Tribune is even worse.

  18. Atrain WD40 Says:

Just cancelled my subscription to StPete times….. well i’ve been thinking about doing it anyway since it’s free online, this just gave me an excuse to make the call.

    Joe here,

@OB – Here’s a link to the Hall of Fame voters and the process. http://www.profootballhof.com/hof/selectionprocess.aspx

  20. 2goodbucs Says:

I hope Ira reads these comments. This is a big deal for his subscribers. Stupid business decision on his part.

  21. Brad Says:

Good for you Dew and Atrain..

  22. d-money Says:

Just another example of how the local sports writers hate the Bucs and how these guys just don’t have a clue.

These “experts” are no more informed than any of your average sports fan who listens to sports radio and has access to the internet.

  23. Joe Says:

    Atrain WD40:

    LOL!

To be clear, Joe is not, never has, never will advocate for anyone to cancel their newspaper subscriptions. For example at the Times, Joe thinks the world of Joe Smith and Stephen Holder is a way cool guy who likes to try different multimedia projects which is admirable and Joe has told that to Holder personally.

Additionally, there are few classier guys than Gary Shelton who writes a damned fine column.

So please don’t anyone be confused: Joe in no way is suggesting anyone cancel their newspaper subscriptions.

To be fair, please cite anyone not named Shaun King who thought the Bucs would have a winning record in 2010? There were very few, including fans, that believed that.

    eye-RAH! has trimmed down. Seriously.

  26. Joe Says:

    Ta-da!

Take Brady out of the mix and Belicheat looks an awful lot like Jeff Fisher or Lovie Smith.

That’s high praise. Joe is humbled. Thank you!

    BuzzSaw:

Gotta stick up from eye-RAH here. Thing Joe has learned since that time, Favre was on his way to the Bucs and the Packers pulled the rug out at the last minute. One of the very first stories Joe had on this site — it’s in the archives — was a conversation overheard by the pilot of Favre’s private jet of Favre talking to Chucky about where he should live down here, the plays he will run, etc.

Joe also knows one of eye-RAH’s sources on that story. That trade was happening until the very end when the Packers got cold feet.

  29. nick Says:

    Joe:

I’m not asking that they predict winning records. Just create stories, pump up the team, coaches, young players. Whatever…create a positive outlook. All we heard about Mike Williams was that he quit on his college team. Or how McCoy wasn’t as good as Suh. Negativity spread like wild fire from news and radio. Fans hear it and react.

  30. gotbbucs Says:

personally, i could care less if rah wins coty so long as he keeps this team going in the right direction. these awards will come in time if this team starts going deep in the playoffs on a consistent basis.

  31. DreadedBuc Says:

Typical Ira, which is why Raheem always calls him out for bad press at the press conferences. This is truly sad, it’s like your team playing in the superbowl and you root for the other team. No one questions Belichick’s coaching abilities, he is a damn good coach, but could he have down what Raheem did with the Bucs, I think not. What Raheem did was incredible, especially with the personnel. From what I saw this weekend, had we made it into the playoffs we might have made it to the big game. Morris deserves coach of the year, but he won’t get it because of dumb azzes like Ira.

  32. d-money Says:

    I’m with Nick.

The local sports media continually bashes this team and the owners. If you don’t think that all the negative press the team and owners have had over the last couple of years has had an effect on ticket sales then you are kidding yourself.

  33. jaytek74 Says:

WHO CARES!!!!! These awards are only fueled by the opinions of a select group of voters. If they really want a better idea of who deserves these awards, then maybe everyone should get a vote including fans, or cut out all of the media votes and only let the coaches vote with the rule in place that each coach must vote for someone other than themselves. To many knuckleheads getting votes is the problem with these awards. IMO

  34. thomas 2.1 Says:

I wouldnt have voted for Bellichick, but I sure wouldn’t have voted for Rah. What does third place in the division earn you? Nothing.

6 of Rah’s 10 wins came against the NFC South and the Panthers (the other four against Ohio and the league’s bottom feeders save the Saints but that was a week 17 snoozer for them) hardly a COY resume.

I vote for Haley: division winner, home playoff game, turned them compleetely around etc. Lovie Smith would be my number 2 (that team played poorly last year and he has them competing at a super bowl level again), Mike Smith my number 3.

Rah, well Rah is Rah. 13-19 in his career, never made the playoffs, never finsished better than third, improvement is not attributable the defense, the defense stinks, the improvement is freeman – so how does he become COY? I think Olson deserves more credit.

  35. Ish Says:

    @Thomas2.1

Yeah, starting 10 rookies, losing 10 starters and having to play people who were on other teams practice squads while having a winning record is nothing to be proud of, you’re right.

What you are wrong about is that Carolina is in the NFC South, and we beat the NFC West.

The Steelers and the Saints are the only teams that beat us soundly, all the other games we were in until the end, including the Falcons game.

And, finally, we led the Saints, and were beating there starters, while they were still competing for 1st. It wasn’t until the 4th quarter that they gave up. IF we’d trailed and rallied against their scrubs, your point would be valid; but we didn’t. We were beating them and they gave up.

We also didn’t allow a 100 yard rusher to them, held them to 305 yards of offense and shut down all the receivers but Arrington. Yeah, the defense (with all those rookies and third stringers) MUST have sucked.

How did we win? Oh yeah, a Coach who put out a great effort.

Except from your point of view.

  36. McBuc Says:

Buc You…How can you say Morris did not do a great job? Oh, and stop posting about his two years of coaching not showing much, Jimmy Johnson, Madden, Bellechik and many others would look about the same if not worse. Let’s just talk about defense, Morris took a rag tag group of rookies, young guys, and back ups and ranked 17th in overall defense regardless of losing his best player and several other key players. Maybe he should or maybe he should not win the COTY award, but he should be in the conversation.

  37. Brad Says:

Last time I checked Rah is the Head Coach and not just the defensive coordinator. His accolades for getting the most out of his defense is well documented above. What the bashers forget to realize is he was the one that was instrumental in drafting Josh Freeman. He is not only a great head coach but he is great at reconizing talent. Also he was smart enough and man enough to make changes last season with both coordinators when he knew they weren’t their best selves. I’ve stated over and over that I was the biggest Gruden supporter out there and bashed the organization for bringing in such a young inexperienced head coach but after evaluating myself after this season I will stand first in line to say I was wrong and Rah is the man.. The fact people are arguing that he does/doesn’t deserve cot proves what a success he was.

  38. Joe Says:

You are aware that’s not the job of a newspaper or any self-respecting reporter not named Mark Topkin, correct?

  39. BigMacAttack Says:

The Bucs performed much better against the Ravens than the Chiefs did Sunday, and the Bucs played in Baltimore. The Bucs had a chance to win that game. We all know the PI call and Sabby the Goat in one of his best performances, completely lost in space. I can’t think of any word to better describe Thomas other than STUPID. The Bucs never would have drafted Freeman if not for Coach Rah, I guarantee it. Completely out of touch with reality, head buried in the sand, Buc Hater to the inth degree. No Buc Fan would write the crap, defecation, discharge, dung, excrement, excretion, fecal matter, feces, feculence, flux, manure, waste that Beavis & Cleavis post here.

I also agree with Nick. A newspaper’s primary goal is to sell paper and turn a profit. You would think that a reporter who could generate fan support would sell more papers, but they prefer to live in a dream world and write about crap that peeves their readers and makes themselves feel good. It’s all about one’s own ego. I personally don’t read anything Ira writes, only Joe’s excerpts. I gave up on Ira(Basketball belly) a long time ago.

Rick Stroud I liked until he tried to get Talib punished for going to the game from which he was suspended. I’m just sick of all of them and wish they could get some new blood in Tampa.

  40. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“I vote for Haley: division winner, home playoff game, turned them compleetely around etc.”

The exact same could be said about Pete Carroll. You think he is coach of the year? You say our schedule was weak, check out KC’s. How many times do you have to bring up third in the division? You fail to mention that it is by far the best division in football, and the other 2 teams are the previous world champion and the best team in the NFC. The way you spin things is amazing. Besides, last I checked, we are talking about head coach. He’s not being nominated for Defensive Coordinator of the year. But why am I wasting my time even explaining anything to you?

  41. McBuc Says:

Sorry Buc You, I was talking to Thomas.

  42. McBuc Says:

I agree with Joe, the news paper is not the PR branch of the team. I would hate to think people would tailor there opinions to sell seats for any team.
