Kay Adams: Baker Mayfield Explodes Sunday Night
November 7th, 2026
Big Baker Mayfield game loading.
The NFL it-girl (and a Polski from Chicago, no less) is betting on a big night from Baker Mayfield along Lakeshore Drive.
Kay Adams took to her platform yesterday, “Up and Adams,” and made no bones about it. Mayfield has been in the shadows for far too long and is due for a massive blow-up.
Having thrown a grand total of seven passes since he dislocated the thumb on his throwing hand against Minnesota, Mayfield, Adams said, is overdue to light up a scoreboard.
Despite the Bucs being one of the best (maybe the best?) running team in the NFL, Adams instead believes the Bears will overpursue the Bucs’ running backs. With Chicago being soft against the pass, Adams said tomorrow night’s game is a perfect setup for Mayfield to go off on national television.
“This has to be and will be the game that we see Baker Mayfield shine again,” Adams said. “I think that’s what happens.
“The Bucs have been running their way — No. 1 run offense right now. Can [Jeffery] Simmons stop it? It’ll be very interesting to see.
“But the opportunities to beat Chicago, they will come through the air. They will, on the perimeter. Like you could take your shots [at] the corners, all of that.
“The Bears are giving up the third-most yards per attempt of any team in the league. Second-most yards per [passing] play. You can throw on this team.”
Joe loves ya’ Kay, but this ain’t the passing team to be able to take advantage of the Bears’ long-pass weakness, if it is a weakness.
The stars are not aligned, sadly, Joe believes. The Bucs have a rotten record in Soldier Field. The last time the Bucs had a decent game up there (where they won convincingly) was in 1998, when Trent Dilfer (!) led the Bucs to a 31-17 win by tossing three touchdown passes.
(In 2002, when the Bucs won the Super Bowl and shut out the Bears on the road, the Bucs did not play in Chicago that year; they instead played in Champaign at the University of Illinois. Soldier Field was undergoing a major renovation.)
This century, the Bucs are 2-6 at Soldier Field. And we all know how badly KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles (6-14 as Bucs coach) and Mayfield (2-10 with Bucs) are in primetime games, including playoff games.
Besides, the Bucs’ passing attack has been atrocious this season. Horrible! It’s Week 9 and the Bucs rank No. 30 in explosive play rate in the passing game. (In the run game, the Bucs are the No. 5 team in explosive plays.)
In successful play rate in the passing game, the Bucs ranks No. 29.
(Explosive play and successful play stats from data analyst Sam Hoppen’s Substack.)
Why would any thinking person like Adams believe the Bucs will magically demonstrate they can win by passing? If anything, the Bucs have put the forward pass on ice, as they should, as bad as their passing attack has been.
Everything about this game suggests the Bucs will find out the hard way what it’s like playing the big boys of the NFL.
But if the Bucs somehow pull off this upset, Joe would be so damn happy, Joe just might throw down a Goose Island 312 or a Green Line.

The Bucs will get embarrassed Sunday night. So will Todd ‘Radio’ ‘The Toilet’ Bowles. Good luck running on the Bears which leaves them to pass. Anyone believe they can get that done? Me neither.

Joe Says:
We are now entering the ninth game and the Bucs have the No. 30 explosive play rate in the passing game. (In the run game, the Bucs are the No. 5 team in explosive plays.)
——————————————————————————————-
I’m not a Mayfield fan but, he has te tendency to have a great game every now and then. Actually, he is due for one. I’m not convinced that the Bears can stop our running game but if they can or can’t, the play action game will be lit!

As the season turns. This could be an embarrassment or it could be a statement game. The intrigue is off the charts on this one. Its a no margin for error Bucs life!

Nevermind Mayfield.
The Bucs have no good WRs.

“Joe loves ya’ Kay, but….”
Misogyny, anyone? First, my only choice for Bucs news prints pictures unflattering to Kay Adams and pure gossip concerning unverified cosmetic procedures.
Second, now my favorite news source condescendingly pretending that her knowledge of the game and opinions concerning Sundays game have less value than theirs.
She’s as pretty as a picture and sweet as sugar and what really stands out about her is her understanding of the game of football. She talks to more NFL players, coaches, and GMs than you guys do, I’ll bet.
Her views on Sunday nights game may not align perfectly with you guys, but they do with mine and I’m sure many others.
When Baker and the Bucs finish the beatdown through the air that they’re going to be administering 2 days from now, maybe you fellas can start affording Kay some of the professional respect that she’s earned.
I mean, I’m not perfect. Maybe I’ve been a little misogynistic in my life. It’s just that there is something about Kay Adams that is good-and refreshing somehow. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but, man, how I would like to.

Bucs win this by running the football and grinding up the clock. Several 10+ minute scoring drives will keep Chicago’s offense off the field entirely.

Joe Buc Fan thinks… should I have a beer or proofread this story before I post it? Ah, give me a beer. It’s fixed.–Joe

Bears have only beat one team with a winning record, so that makes them the “Big Boys”??? But but but they beat the SB champs (4-4). Who by the way does not have Kenneth Walker who is tearing it up for KC who lost to Denver last week. So much for the lazy narrative that sports writers have telling anyone who will listen to them who the “Big Boys” are.
I like the Bucs chances, if this Defense shows up the mentality week Caleb Williams will put the ball into play for take aways. Also I do believe the Bucs will be able to run just enough to make Chicago stack the box so the passing game will show up.
I could be wrong but just because some pundits declare something does not make it a fact. We will see come Sunday night.

The great thing about blogs is that everyone is entitled to an opinion, even the owner of the blog.
Another great things about blogs is that everyone is entitled to be wrong, even the owner of the blog. Which you are in this case Joe. Kenton told me so.
Past history means nothing; wins or losses, those games were all played by different teams. THIS SEASON this Bucs’ team is 1-0 in prime time night games; we whooped the Cowboys 24-16 on their turf at night.
THIS TEAM has found a formula for winning: Play great defense (that results in a big turnover advantage), and run the ball relentlessly (that controls the clock & controls field position). All 3 of our wins have come from the same formula.
Sunday night will be 2 teams capable of playing the same game going head-to-head. The team that makes the most mistakes, especially turnovers, will lose.
In our 3 wins, the Bucs have only coughed it up ONCE, but taken it away 11 times; HUGE advantage there. In the Bears 6 wins, they’ve only coughed it up 5 times, but taken it away 11 times; BIG advantage there.
In our 5 losses, the Bucs have coughed it up 11 times, but taken it away only 5 times; BIG disadvantage there. In the Bears 2 losses, they’ve coughed it up 7 times, but taken it away 0 times; HUGE disadvantage there. In both those losses together, they’ve only scored 10 points TOTAL. That’s what coughing the ball up so much can lead to.
Bears, like the Bucs, are a ball-control team. In their wins they’ve totally owned field position & the TOP. If the Bucs can keep them on the bench using a solid Run Game AND enough of a Passing Game to keep them honest, we can win this game. Providing of course that WE don’t shoot ourselves in the foot with mistakes. It’ll be interesting to see which Bucs’ team shows up in Chicago Sunday night.

It’s been over a year since the Bucs have lost by more than one score. Whatever ELSE may happen, getting blown out isn’t among them

Like most women she talks to much, and rarely makes sense.

Funny, but I never would have guessed that “Kenton” was a girl’s name.
November 7th, 2026 at 6:21 am
It’s true that Baker is LONG overdue for a decent passing performance…
However I don’t believe it will happen in Chicago on Sunday.
More than likely the Bears will slow down our run game and dare Baker to throw which will probably be catastrophic.
Winning the turnover battle will be key so I hope Baker can finally stop his incessant fumbling and doesn’t throw 5 INTs.
November 7th, 2026 at 6:22 am
You forgot that the Bucs won the NFC Central on week 17 of the 1999 season at Soldier Field. That was the day after the dreaded Y2K and unfortunately Paul Gruber’s last football game.
November 7th, 2026 at 6:25 am
Marine buc … ‘Winning the turnover battle will be key so I hope Baker can finally stop his incessant fumbling and doesn’t throw 5 INTs.’
You need to expand on that. Are you saying that the Bucs WILL WIN if they win the Turnover Battle?
November 7th, 2026 at 6:38 am
@ DR
If it’s 4-0 in favor of the Bucs then “YES”.
If It’s 4-3 in favor of the Bucs then “NO”.
The Bucs will need a near flawless game from their offense and that’s not likely IMO…
November 7th, 2026 at 6:40 am
If he gets hit hard enough he will.
November 7th, 2026 at 6:58 am
“ If anything, the Bucs have put the forward pass on ice, as they should, as bad as their passing attack has been.”
Nonsense. They put it on ice for two games and won both. That is NOT sustainable. Passing is two thirds of an NFL offense. Continuing to go one demential in favor of the one third will result in far more losses than wins over the course of a season.
Does anyone really think the Bucs will have another 300 yard rushing game this season? Another 4 interception game? Pitch another shutout? Yes the two victories occurred in dominant fashion. But that is because the stars aligned.
If the passing game is not fixed, and putting it on ice is NOT fixing it, the Bucs go no where from here.
November 7th, 2026 at 7:23 am
The only way Baker has a big game is if Otton, Tez and Bauer show big in the passing game. No EE, No McMillan. Godwin and Hurst are currently invisible.
Not sure Zac can scheme anyone open and the OLine has been putrid in pass protection protecting
November 7th, 2026 at 7:24 am
Two things I am not saying:
*I am not saying the Bears are not a good team. But……the teams they beat aren’t that impressive. Names you know? Yes. But have the Eagles, Patriots or Seahawks really impressed you this year?
* I am not saying the Bucs will have a good passing game tomorrow night. But…….. I think it’s a bit skewed to use this year’s stats in evaluating the Bucs passing game. The actual Bucs passing game hasn’t been bad the last 5 games, it hasn’t been used. The only thing that reflects the Bucs 2026 passing game is the first three weeks of the year.
So now you say, “But Drunk Bucs Fan, the Bucs passing game wasn’t good the first three weeks of the season!”. My answer is COŔRECT! But you know what also wasn’t good the first three weeks of the season?
The Bucs running game.

Prediction: There will be 4 more Kay Adams stories this month.
November 7th, 2026 at 7:37 am
In a good way?
November 7th, 2026 at 7:37 am
Marine Buc … ‘The Bucs will need a near flawless game from their offense and that’s not likely IMO…’
You’re more generous than I am. Bucs will need a near flawless game from their DEFENSE to stay in the game. Throwing a shutout against the Falcons with FOUR turnovers was pretty close to flawless. Not many games like that come along, and 2-in-a-row like that is probably even rarer.
Still, our defense has been the key to our 3 wins this season, and I’m convinced that’ll continue until year’s end. Forcing 11 takeaways in just 3 games (our wins) and limiting opponents to just 29 points TOTAL in those 3 wins sure does help our odds for winning.
But the offense did contribute to each of those wins. For starters, they scored 74 points in those 3 games (8 TDs & 6 FGs) and our defense & S/Ts added another 9 pts. And they only gave the ball away ONCE in those 3 wins.
All depends which Bucs’ team shows up Sunday night IMO. We’ve seen the Bucs’ team this season that can dominate opponents, but we’ve also seen the Bucs’ team that has no problem shooting itself in both feet.
