Mike Tomlin Explains A Todd Bowles Strength
November 6th, 2026
So a guy a lot of Bucs fans would like to replace Todd Bowles as head coach had plenty to say about Bowles.
Legendary Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin hopped on The Rondé Barber Show this week and was told Bowles takes a lot of heat in Tampa. Tomlin was then asked to state something about Bowles that maybe fans don’t know or don’t understand.
“I think that there’s a steadiness there that’s easy to follow,” Tomlin said of Bowles. “It is. And I just think as a leader, man, that’s what we need to provide for our guys: direction. Particularly when things are less than ideal.
“I think he has a natural way about presenting the Steady Eddie mentality. He doesn’t ride the emotional roller coaster. I think that’s good; I think it’s good for young teams. I think it’s good for teams going through a tough time.”
Interesting take by Tomlin. It makes Joe re-think the famous Bowles public outburst last December following the home meltdown against the Falcons. Perhaps Bowles falling of his own Steady Eddie train, to use the Tomlin description, hurt the team’s mindset.
The Bucs never recovered.

yea the direction with bowles is sideways. or one step forward one step back if you prefer.

Ehh…idk about y’all.. but those games where we are getting curb stomped and the camera pans to bowles and he’s just standing arms crossed with no expression – that irritates the sh*t out of me. Like you should be visibly pissed. Maybe its just me… but I like a coach with some fire. He doesn’t even look interested half the time.

FIRETHECANNONS I completely agree

That would all be fine but every single year we have to lose 5 games or more in a row I don’t get it!

Once you’re older than 40, you learn to control emotions. It’s hard to grasp when your 16, but your day will come just hang in there bud

It doesn’t matter if you’re “irritated” or not….. Coaches job is not to keep you entertained by his demeanor during losses (or wins).
What matters is how the players respond and that’s been positive. He’s kept the players believing and has us playing a meaningful game Sunday when it could be over by now.
Todd’s a head coach and DC….. Watch the cheerleaders if you want entertainment on the sidelines

LOL! Good one.

This year, the string of losses was totally different….
Defenses was playing steady early then has even gotten better.
Offensive coordinators is hard on players during the first year.
Sometimes I could take a little bit of time for things to start gelling.
I think the offense should start to get better and better as the season continues.
Of course, this is totally depend, depending on whether Baker will take the time to go through his reads and not sit there and hold the ball for five seconds, lol…..

Joe … ‘It makes Joe re-think the famous Bowles public outburst last December following the home meltdown against the Falcons. Perhaps Bowles falling of his own Steady Eddie train, to use the Tomlin description, hurt the team’s mindset. The Bucs never recovered.’
Two thoughts Joe …
1 – The Bucs were so badly beaten up by that point with injuries that I’m not sure any coach could’ve helped them recover.
2 – Todd’s outburst that day wasn’t the first by any HC, nor will it be the last. It just happened to be caught on camera, and everyone (yourself included) was quick to jump on the ‘That’s so out of character for him’ bandwagon.
Maybe it would’ve been more aprorpiate to jump on the ‘Oh my gosh, Todd’s human after all’ bandwagon instead?

It’s a good thing Bowles is steady Eddie during rough times because he provides plenty of that.
5-12 in the last 17 games and we’re praising this guy for being calm???
Is that more important than winning games? No wonder Pittsburgh wanted this guy gone.
No thanks to him replacing Bowles.

1-5 to the playoffs? coach of the year!! Lol a trolls nightmare!!
Go Bucs
November 6th, 2026 at 4:48 pm
Thank God Bowles finally has some talent on this defense at every level of the field. No more ladders concepts tearing them up.
November 6th, 2026 at 4:55 pm
Jeebus yall took my comment out of whack.
@Simple T – I understand his job is to not entertain me with his demanor… what kinda statement is that? His job is to entertain me with a winning football team… which up until the last few weeks he’s failed to do. I expect more from our team then perpetual mediocrity.
November 6th, 2026 at 4:59 pm
And to be fair I really like what ive seen from the defense the last few weeks. I dont hate the guy, I want to see wins. Really hope it continues.

Ehh, if we lose Sunday.. it’s still fire Todd Bowles.
Rather have a young offensive mind.. in
Nate Scheelhaase
Grant Udinski
Declan Doyle

Results matter. The only thing HC Bowles can hang his hat on is that he has won the worst division in football a couple times. In any other division he would have missed the playoffs each of 3 years and been fired.
Oh he is an easy guy to follow. Who would not want to get paid millions to play .500 ball and everything is all good. Some jobs are too big for some people. Coordinator, he is not bad. Head coach, no.

BROWNS’ SHEDEUR SANDERS TO START AT QB VS. SAINTS WITH DESHAUN WATSON IN CONCUSSION PROTOCOL
here come the Saints -ugh

Kudos to King of citrus park with pretty much all of his analogy of Todd Bowles. I like the man and is a stand up Dude but, shows absolutely no emotion and cannot get a team fired up during a game! Time for a young vibrant head coach with offensive background that can fit Mayfield. No matter what the naysayers want to say, he is signed! Go Bucs!,
November 6th, 2026 at 5:59 pm
At least for me, it’s not about me wanting Todd to be fired, I want him to be better.
The problem is I just don’t think he has it in him, and we just need ‘better’.
Still, will be hoping we win. Just can’t watch and hope to lose.

@Firethecannons
It’s all good – go Bucs!
For the record, many players have noted Todd’s stoic nature and how it is, and has been, a positive for the team and something they depend on.
His break down of the season into quarters is another coaching key that’s paying dividends.
November 6th, 2026 at 6:35 pm
FIRETHECANNONS…..I agree with your first post completely. Ignore the losers that will never be happy.
Why aren’t we talking about the philosophy of dividing the year into quarters anymore? 0-4 first quarter 3-1 second quarter. That’s called improvement. Let’s make quarter#3 another positive step. Go Bucs!! This Sunday night is gonna be great!
November 6th, 2026 at 6:36 pm
Bowles is a good Defensive Coach. The Bucs were clearly lacking in talent on Defense last year and the team made alot of positive personnel moves through free agency and the draft to upgrade the D.
Today’s successful NFL teams either have a Head Coach or Offensive Coordinator that develop QB’s and scheme successful Offense production.
And those Offensive Coordinators that are successful usually get promoted to Head Coach pretty quick.
What Coen did with Mayfield and now with Lawrence is remarkable.
November 6th, 2026 at 7:05 pm
If anyone is dumb enough that you can reach grown men by screaming, stomping, and acting like a fool, then you are a total idiot. Never saw Tom Landry, Bill Walsh, or even Bellichick do that stuff.
November 6th, 2026 at 7:07 pm
Fire Bowles!
November 6th, 2026 at 7:54 pm
The Glazers chose Bowels over Coen. Let that marinate a bit.
They would rather lose with Todd than win with Liam.
And that’s why we’re still stuck with the guru.
Master of regression.
November 6th, 2026 at 8:45 pm
i have no desire to see Tomlin coach here again.
November 6th, 2026 at 10:52 pm
He is why they go thru tough times. Theyre unprepared and his decisions arent easy for the team to overcome
November 6th, 2026 at 11:13 pm
BOʻWLES A DEFENCE COACH . NEED A YOUNG FIRED UP COACH THST FIRES UP HIS TEAM . DID YALL SEE THE BEARS SIDELINE DURING HAWKS GAME ??? THSTS FIRED UP COACHING !
November 6th, 2026 at 11:26 pm
Maybe he wouldn’t have to be steady, Eddie, and get us through so many rough times, if there weren’t so many rough times
