General Manager Ranking Puts Jason Licht As Potential All-Time Great

November 5th, 2026

Bucs GM Jason Licht

How good has general manager Jason Licht been at his job?

Joe thinks the Bucs have had a roster worthy of a winning record for seven consecutive seasons (2020 through 2026). How many teams can say that?

What’s been done with that talent is another story. That’s out of Licht’s hands.

Joe believes Licht is a slam dunk for the Buccaneers Ring of Honor. After winning a Super Bowl, the Bucs won four consecutive division titles during Licht’s reign. Few NFL teams in history can make that claim.

NFL writer Jordan Sigler of Newsweek crafted a Mount Rushmore of NFL GMs this week. Bill Belichick, Ozzie Newsome, Howie Roseman and John Schneider are his best GMs of all-time.

While Joe does not agree with that list, it’s what Sigler wrote next that is intriguing. He named four current GMs who could someday be in the class of Belichick, Newsome, Roseman and Schneider. And Licht was in that group.

Yeah, Licht’s got a way to go. A second Super Bowl win is a must to be in that class. A winning record would be nice, too.

Licht is in Year 13 guiding the Bucs. If he can build another dominant roster, grab a second ring and last 20 years on the job, Joe would put Licht into an all-time greats conversation.

For now, Joe would be happy with a wise, in-the-franchise’s-best-interest move or two at the trade deadline.

Love the work JL has done. I would put Bill Pollian over Roseman.

WTF is Belichick doing on anyone’s GM Mount Rushmore?

BB the head coach, absolutely. But BB the GM did more to tarnish his legacy than anything else.

Absolutely agree. This is contrary to the anti Licht geniuses who appear on these pages with their typical cogent analysis; “ Licht sucks” is pretty typical of the intellectual firepower of the anti everything idiots who populate these pages.

Licht has done a remarkable job in rebuilding the defensive talent in a short period of time. The offense will be much better in the second half of the season after continuous turnover at the OC leve.

    Ozzie is the GOAT

Having Bowles as your head coach is an immediate disqualification.

Agree with the drunk guy. Regarding belichick. He was actually a bad GM. Great coach? Sure. But not a great GM.

this article doesn’t pass the giggle test – are you out of your mind ? best GM ? losing record and never drafted a decent QB ? lol – if Licht has a brain transplant and starting next year performs like Roseman or Schneider for a decade , sure .. but his record to date is questionable if not laughable – and by your own standard the proof of greatness would be a “wise, in-the-franchise’s-best-interest move or two at the trade deadline.” – that is completely delusional to count on that – I have shown data on this site how poorly Licht compares to other GMs and he is the LEAST likely to make a trade – Joe you must have posted this piece as
    rage-bait

Two very important differences between Belichick (GM) and Licht…win percentage and one moved on from players a year early while the other tends to resign/extend guys who too often underperform after getting “their bag”. That said I do like some of Licht’s draft picks, and as a talent scout I think he’s top 10-15 in current NFL GM’s. Based on some questionable free agent moves (and sometimes stubbornly sitting on his hands during FA), as well as the team’s losing record under his stewardship, I don’t see him being mentioned in the same class as some of the other names on that list. I’d certainly love to be proven wrong as it likely means more championships for the Bucs!

The guy posted above, your post is laughable. You don’t know ball and have bad takes.

    That is all

The only place I’d ding JL is in free agency. He’s a had a few poor signings. But I don’t know how much team Glazer plays a part in those, like Baker.

People expecting every draft pick to be an all pro simply don’t look at draft hit stats. His mid round hits are what has kept the roster afloat. Too many good picks to list.

Aquabum you must be eithee Licht’s pool service guy or his lawn service guy mowing his grass and trimming hedges – of course you love Licht –
