Hyping Jacob Parrish

November 3rd, 2026

Once upon a time, the Buccaneers had an undersized cornerback somewhat similar to Jacob Parrish. The guy led the NFL in passes defensed for a Bucs season, including four interceptions.

And the guy didn’t make the Pro Bowl that year, even as an alternate.

The cornerback was a known name and his Bucs team was good. Still, no postseason love.

Got a guess?

That was Brent Grimes in 2016. Grimes started every Bucs game opposite rookie corner Vernon Hargreaves and was a dominant force for what was the NFL’s best third-down defense.

Those 24 passes defensed by Grimes tied the highest mark Hall of Fame Bucs cornerback Rondé Barber ever had in a single season.

Joe brings this up because Parrish is on pace this year for 27 passes defensed, which would be the second highest total recorded since the stat became a thing in the 1990s.

Parrish also is on track for four interceptions.

Joe would love to see the Bucs pushing more hype for Parrish. He deserves it and, well, team officials shouldn’t whine and moan about poor Pro Bowl respect if they’re not willing to go overboard for their own players.

Just once Joe would love to see the Bucs — and Team Glazer — really go all-in to get a Buccaneers player into the Pro Bowl. So much creativity could be put into the process to make the Tampa-area one that shows out when it comes to supporting its players.

Joe remembers about 11 years ago when the Panthers put 10 players in the Pro Bowl on the backs of an overwhelming fan vote. A dozen Panthers were among the top-2 votegettters at their positions. The franchise did a lot to fuel fan voting.

If the Bucs really want their standouts to get repsect, planning for that must start now.

What exactly do you have in mind Joe? How about some suggestion? I know the pro bowl is seemingly still important during contract negotiations, but it’s obviously an irrelevant relic in terms of true notoriety. All pro is where it’s at. And I would think that would have more to say when it came to contract negotiations. I’m all for players getting recognition, but I’m wondering what going overboard for their own players actually means to you.

I seem to remember something about Brett Grimes’ wife . . .???

  11. Gipper Says:

To all the Licht must go crowd. He drafted not one, but 2 competent corners in the same draft class. This is almost unheard of. Moreover with Trotter, et al. he has rebuilt the defense swiftly and effectively. For all the usual grousers here, this is impressive work by GM Licht.

why does a thread about parrish have to turn into a jason lite back scratching thread?

  13. Todd Says:

Parrish deserves the accolades as he is ranked in Top 10 by PFF and is chasing the all time passes defended record of 31 held by none other than former Buc Darelle Revis.

  14. Simple T Says:

Secondary as a whole is playing lights out because the D is playing as a unit.
Pass rush pressure is speeding QBs up and Todd’s zone and man looks are keeping opponents guessing and forcing picks.

    Zyon deserves his props too.

Going to need our best game yet from CBs and safeties against Chicago. LFG Bucs!

  15. Gipper Says:

    Jimmy,

Jacob Parrish and Morrison are nice young corners. They are on the team because Licht had the good sense to draft them. There, that’s not so complicated is it?

  16. Upstate NY Buc Fan Says:

He’s definitely our business! You could see it better look in his eyes! Definitely a pro material not even a question.Go Bucs

  17. 50 year True fan Says:

The Bucs had a player that wore that same number when they won their first. Super Bowl and was also undersized. Without Brian Kelly that year they would not have gone all the way. He came up with big play after big play like this kid does. It is great to see number 25 make plays all over the field when they need him! Go Bucs!

  18. Fanofdabucs Says:

The pro bowl always has been and always will be a joke.

Parrish, just keep doing your thing and let’s not worry about popularity contests.

  19. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

All-Pro Joe, that’s the bell both our corners could end up ringing before the season is over if they keep up with the level of play they been performing. Both have been impressive, but what’s even more impressive is not only is this Parrishs’ first year at outside CB and he’s knocking the opportunity out the park.

Even with a rookie starting at Nickel, the improvement from the secondary has still been pretty noticeable and it’s about damn time. They’ve been playing so well, they get the benefit of the doubt from me down the stretch. Especially considering the QB-WR groups they’ve faced and limited when they lined up on’em.

Even a guy like Melifonwu, with what he’s shown in Winfields’ abscene he’s at least got first dibs on a job on this team and he’s already a ST’er

  20. ModHairKen Says:

You get hype by winning. Let’s deal with that first.

    Pro Bowl! Yahoo!!!!!

  22. Mistermarty Says:

Number one, Joe Bucs fan website is phenomenal.
Mccolum, Parrish, and Smith have played unbelievably
awesome. So glad Reddick, Dennis, and Dean are no longer
relevant. Keeping the QB’s contained is more important than sacks.
Anzalone has finally figured out Bowles methods. If Mayfield thumb
heals up we have a chance even with a loss to the Bears.
So impressed with Mccolum and giving Bowles credit for the turnaround.
They can run Mayfield more with the experience that Daniels received.
Sitting pretty in the sh_tty south. Go Bucs.

No cancers on the team this year.

  23. J Says:

I heard Greg Rosenthal mention that Parrish was on an All-Pro trajectory.

Had no idea Parrish was leading the league with (13) PDs and, McCullum is in fourth place (8).
