“We’re The Best O-Line In The Country”

November 2nd, 2026

Luke Goedeke

This is the strangest Buccaneers team in years.

It reminds Joe of when Mike Glennon won NFL Rookie of The Month in November of 2013 after the Bucs started that season 0-8.

Very little about 2013 made sense. Tampa Bay won four out of five games following a disastrous and winless September and October.

And now the Bucs sit with a miserable 3-5 record after winning three of four games — two in bizarre fashion and one with an undrafted rookie quarterback.

Exactly what is this team all about after throwing for less than 70 yards combined over the past two games?

All Joe knows for sure is Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht handed the coaching staff a roster capable of being much better than 3-5.

After yesterday’s 324-yard rushing effort, right tackle Luke Goedeke declared the Bucs’ offensive line to be the greatest in the land.

“I’ll die on the hill that we’re the best O-line in the country,” Goedeke said.

Maybe it is the best line? But Joe would advise Goedeke to take a deep breath. The O-line also was among the sloppiest in the NFL early this season, and Baker Mayfield has eaten 14 sacks while attempting only 110 passes. That’s a heinous ratio.

The 2026 line needs to prove it can pass block at an elite level consistently before Joe can agree with Goedeke’s assessment.

Still, the hype is fun. If the O-line is the best in the league, and Bucs running backs are electric behind a franchise quarterback, and the defense is rock solid while the team sports a literally perfect kicker, then how the hell is the record 3-5?

3-5 a bounce here and there 5-3 coulda woulda shoulda

  2. Rob Says:

We’re going to see much better pass blocking before we can call them the best O-Line in the country

  3. JustVisiting Says:

    Protect your QB

  4. jimmy Says:

two games no need to pass all of a sudden he found his voice and his fragile ego errupts.

    terrible.

  5. D-Rome Says:

3-5 a bounce here and there 5-3 coulda woulda shoulda

That’s right. I would venture to guess that the Bucs are 3-4 plays away from being 6-2.

  6. Marine Buc Says:

Oh boy – where do I start here?

    I have a question for Buc nation…

Do you really believe this offense will continue running the ball 40-50 times a game?

OK – nice. Most of you understand…

At some point – probably within the next 6 days or so – the Bucs will be required by NFL law to actually throw the football downfield with at least a 30% success rate.

This is the moment when the lobster will be inserted into the boiling pot.

    Time will tell.

    7-10.

  7. Allen Lofton Says:

The Bucs pulled off a unique win that has not happened in 52 years. Not one completed pass in a game!!! A monsune rain event that forced the Bucs to abandon their passing game. Atlanta tried and completed eight passes – 4 to their receivers and 4 to the Bucs corners and linebackers.
Never witnessed a more lopsided whipping ass game in my lifetime. The NFL is a copy cat league. It’s taken Todd Bowles 5 seasons to get his Defense to play lights out football. If he can sustain this kind of momentum, the Buccaneers could be Super Bowl Bowl winners for the next few years.
    GO BUCS

  8. Ra'Shad Says:

Baker kinda caused a few of those sacks himself. Just my humble opinion.

  9. Marine Buc Says:

    @ Rome

    I disagree.

The Bucs are a few plays from being 8-0.

If it wasn’t for Baker’s consistent fumbling, bumbling, INT’s and lack of deep throw accuracy…

Thank goodness we are paying him a guaranteed 20% of our salary cap next season ($65.7M/$50M guaranteed)…

    Go Bucs!

“If the O-line is the best in the league, and Bucs running backs are electric behind a franchise quarterback, and the defense is rock solid while the team sports a literally perfect kicker, then how the hell is the record 3-5?”

In our 5 losses/58 offensive possessions:

    – 10 giveaways
    – 7 offensive TDs
    -12 3 & Outs
    – 23 Punts
    – 95 points for vs. 122 points against
    – 19 ppg for vs 24 ppg points against
    – 6 points scored off 5 defensive takeaways

Big part in how we lost 5 games.

  11. Beeej Says:

Defense has ALSO gotten better every week

  12. LakelandSteve Says:

We are definitely going to find out if the O-line is the best in the NFL next Sunday night in front of the nation. You can bet your next check the Bears are going to stack the box and dare the Bucs to throw the ball. It would be great if the Bucs could run for another 300 yards but this is the NFL and teams can either shut down or limit what you do best. To win next Sunday the Bucs are going to have to pass at least enough to keep the Bears defense honest. A couple of big pass plays would probably help the offense keep the Bears from totally committing to stopping the run

  13. Fire The Cannons & Fire Todd Says:

    Drug test incoming for Luke…

Interior O Line routinely gets worked in pass pro, run blocking is fun and everything but if you can’t be multifaceted on offense you are going NOWHERE

  14. Fire The Cannons & Fire Todd Says:

Interior O Line is set to play Jeffrey Simmons next week as well…

    Good luck

  15. Gipper Says:

    Marine Buc,

That sure looked like a perfect deep pass that Hurst dropped early in the game yesterday. You will never acknowledge anything other than the negative because that is all you know in your life. Still upset because you couldn’t make it on a real athletic team? Those participation trophies you won still making you angry?

Bad enough that you pretend to be a Marine Corp vet. How,do I know? Most service people rarely bring it up and certainly never lead with it.

  16. zzbucs Says:

Luke, darling, I like you, but look at your record, please take a good bite of humble pie, and then if you get to the playoffs, then you can open that big mouth of yours, so my advice keep your mouth shut and win more games, and please I beg you, no more stupid penalties…….

  17. JustVisiting Says:

The IOL needs to protect the passer before anyone starts talking smack.

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

Lets not get besides ourselves. Great victory on Sunday. But one game at a time. Them Bears are tough. Do it against their Defense Bucs.

  19. mj Says:

hurst is a bust fake mike evans

  20. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

Let’s see what your the OL pass blocking looks like before we get a bandwagon DUI

  21. stpetebucsfan Says:

“a roster capable of being much better than 3-5.”

I find that a little harsh. I’m not suggesting as others that the Bucs were victims if bad luck in terms of “bounces” or calls.

But I do recall that the heart of that line is coming off season ending injuries or major loss of games last season.

    • Tristan Wirfs (Left Tackle): Missed at least five games.
    • Luke Goedeke (Right Tackle): Missed at least five games.
    • Ben Bredeson (Guard/Center): Missed at least five games.
    • Cody Mauch (Guard): Suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 2 and missed the rest of the year

Perhaps they’re just now feeling healthy and the continuity has finally allowed them to regain their MOJO.

How many new faces are contributing on the D and in a BIG way. Anzolone seemed to be missing those first few games perhaps the guys on the D are finally starting to jell.

Bottom line for me is that 5 losses are far to small of a sample size to judge the entire season just as 3 wins are meaningless at this point in the year.

Just be glad that the team if FINALLY playing up to it’s talent level.

  22. buc4evr Says:

Even if they Oline is the best, other than CG and maybe Tez the Bucs dont have good WRs. EE is garbage, everytime Hurst has a critical pass , he fails. He lost the Steeler game. All he had to do was catch an easy 3rd and 11 pass and he dropped it. I am so down on these two clowns it’s not funny.

Bucs need to bring Greene up from the practice squad and give Sills and Johnson a chance to play. Oh and JMac needs to be cut at some point. He is always on IR and injuries.

WR turned out to be the weakest squad and we thought the Bucs were going to have the best WRs in the league.

  23. dan the bucs fan Says:

We found the formula that works! We have th e4 th best running back in the league and the 7th ranked defense. We are back to playing BUC BALL! Throwback to the ALstott/Dunn great defense teams of the 90 and early 2000s.

It’s who we are as a franchise. This team will win the NFC South easily and playing this style will give us a chance to be competitive in the playoffs.

  24. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Bucs fans seeing that our run game is dominant and jumping to the conclusion that we have to improve at pass blocking.

When in reality we’re overall one of the best OLs at mitagting pressure and have allowed a pressure rate of 18% across all drop backs. That ranks 6th, and before you cite sacks allowed just know there are more variables in play and some of it is out of the OLs hands.

Wirfs ranks 6th best amongst ALL OTs and Luke ranks 20th best in pass pro.

The interior is another story, but overall this OL is sneakily one of the better units in the league the play of the skill players hasn’t been at a level to fully take advantage/reward our OL for their work in that department.

And alot of ya’ll blame them for the skill position mishaps and poor execution.

  25. Steven007 Says:

Gipper, I don’t know or care if Marine Buc is an actual Marine, but your statement about not leading with that is interesting and accurate from my point of view as well. Just wanted to throw that out there. The whole topic is not important. We’re here to talk about football. But when you said that a little light bulb did go off.

A few of us here spar with Marine and he’s a good sparring partner. Like a stopped clock. He makes a good point once or twice a day in the comment section. Hates his quarterback. Don’t know why. I don’t hate an athlete because he doesn’t perform to the standards I would prefer. Or because he made a terrible play that led to a loss. It happens. If so, I’d hate many. Nor do I hate him because someone I’m not connected with pays him more than I think he’s worth. So not sure why he hates him if it’s something that’s not included in what I just wrote. And unfortunately that clouds his posts. In my opinion, at least. Same with Munch, but of course he’s a lunatic of a different color.

  26. Bucco’sBruise Says:

Whoa, Luke, love the smash mouth clinic. But you’ve got to be consistent and ALSO be able to pass block. Do that, then we will all be on board with you.

  27. Buddha Says:

Don’t be stupid. They didn’t need to pass so they didn’t. Also our two best receivers were out. Baker’s pass to the goal line was a dime. Bucky should have scored. Final score should have been 30-7. The Buccaneers have been winning time-of-possession and and total yards and turnovers. That’s how you win games. Too bad they blew the game to the Steelers.

  28. BakerFan Says:

I would tap the breaks on that, until I see protection that other QB’s are afforded time in the pocket to go through their read progressions.

I would say that you are the best run blocking team in week 8, you are only as good as your present game, so things can change.

  29. Bucsfanman Says:

Buddha- It ain’t pretty but it gets results! There’s no need to overcomplicate things when it’s successful. If it ain’t broke…

  30. Tampa2ATL Says:

Keep it going, Luke & FU Offense Line!!

  31. Oscar Says:

The reason we are 3-5 is because we weren’t prepared at the start of the season, new OC on offense and an oline getting reacquainted and continuing injury problems with wideouts. On defense, there are 7 new significant contributors in addition to the return of a healthy Kancey. That’s a lot of turnover in personnel and naturally that takes some time to gel. The only thing left in question is the development of the passing game. IMO

  32. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“I would tap the breaks on that, until I see protection that other QB’s are afforded time in the pocket to go through their read progressions.”

13th ranked as of right now 2.37 average time to throw

Before Baker hurt his thumbs they were allowing him to hover around 2.88 seconds to throw which raked 6th most time to throw in the league

The 3 games Jalon Daniels started, he was allowed on average 3.09 seconds to throw on all drop backs.

Couple external things outside of the OL might skew that length of time, which are the QBs buying time with their legs and play calls that cause for the offense to get the ball out of their hands fast via being the team to have thrown the 5th most screens(30) in the NFL through 8 games.

I’d pump my breaks making the OL fully accountable for how the guys that line up behind and beside them have weighed down what is otherwise a very serviceable OL

  33. Obvious One Says:

Funny, I made a comment two weeks ago concerning our receivers or “lack there of” concerning their “actual skill set”, and why there was a heavy showing of Licht and the scouting department at a college game.. I mentioned that perhaps one of the Greatest reasons for being there wasn’t necessarily to scout qb’s (we were 1 and 4 at the time, I believe) but perhaps they were showing up in force to scout the “receivers” since in my veiw, we have one of the WORST receiving departments in the league!

Another commenter, commented that I might be next to crazy for making such a statement (Kenton Smith) and that I was the only one who saw it that way. He wasn’t rude. He just actually believes that we’re More Than good to go…

Well, my point of view “HAS NOT” changed in the slightest. In what universe does it even sort of seem that we’re “Good to Go” in our receiving dept.? We simply DON’T HAVE “A” stud in the receiving dept. And to be perfectly honest… it seems that only Tez has caught much of ANYTHING! And THAT’S NOT going to cut it in the Big Show!

These other guys have DISAPPEARED or…. NEVER WAS! There IS an actual “regression” in that department much less ANYBODY we can “count on” to Actually “CATCH” the ball!

It made sense in yesterday’s game (to a point), to not throw the ball in the rain. But what about the game before? Is it ALL going to be blamed on Mayfields finger? FINE.. we’ll throw in the game before this game as to WHY we haven’t “THROWN” the ball..

Well then we’ll just Have To back up THREE games and take a look at our absent of talent and ability, receiving core. Wby couldn’t they catch balls three or four games ago??

I suppose that at the Least HALF of the reason we’re not even throwing the ball IS BECAUSE we Can Not trust our receivers to handle the job for the “most part”.

Maybe we should take a GOOD LOOK at our receiving department and see where our completion vs dropped passes stand this season. Shouldn’t we? I don’t have the time or the location so bring the numbers forward BUT according to the good ole Eye Test… WE SCREWED in that department!
If someone would kindly look it up we may find the answers to WHY IN THE WORLD WE REFUSE TO THROW THE BALL AT ALL…

I have a Strong inkling that it’s (despracy(sp) vs design)…. Could someone check that, that has the time and means out there in our circle of friends.

I’m pretty Sure that we’re out there scouting “Receivers” as much as ANY department we’re scouting for…

  34. Cardiac kidz Says:

In looking at the games we lost, we never got Bucky going. Now with these recent results, teams will be focused on stopping Bucky and make Baker prove his thumb and game is NFL ready. This can open up the passing game.
I like our chances and believe we can exploit Chicago’s secondary using heavy play action. The weather won’t be a factor. The defense has to be sharp as C. Williams can pick a team apart.

  35. Steve V Says:

    Tyreek Hill

  36. McBay Says:

Bears game might be a coming out party for Bauer Sharp in the pass game.

  37. Bucs Guy Says:

I just like that the Falcons run-D went from #4 in the NFL to #18 as a result of yesterday’s game.

  38. Rod Munch Says:

If Baker doesn’t singlehandedly lose the first two games, the team is, at worst 5-3 right now, with the top running team in football, and the best defense when it comes to per play efficiency.

Teams that run the ball, and play good defense, generally win.

Assuming their QB doesn’t singlehandedly lose the game for them.

  39. can-we-get-rid-of-Licht-for-godsake? Says:

“All Joe knows for sure is Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht handed the coaching staff a roster capable of being much better than 3-5.”

ok so Joe is basically absolving the owners and the GM of any responsibility for any losses this year – so it’s all on Bowles or maybe “bad luck” – the team can win 6 or 7 of the next 9 games on paper – by Joe’s logic the Glazers should launch Bowles if the Bucs don’t win 6 or 7 of the next 9 games – no blame for the Glazers or Licht or “bad luck” – and it can’t be the players because the saintly genius Jason Licht selected them – it is Bowles and Bowles alone that is the problem if the Bucs don’t win the NFC South, according to Joe

  40. Lightningvinny1 Says:

Some of you guys would rather see Baker throw for 300 , 3TDs , 2 INTs and the Bucs lose,,, I’ll take this run game all day long with a win. It’s not how you start , it’s how you finish!
Good match up against the Bears ,, they play tonight in a tough environment against a team that can beat you up! Bucs will come in and rush for 250 (down from 300 lol)

  41. Stpetematt Says:

QB’s don’t single-handedly lose games. I’ve seen receivers miss catches they could have easily made and are paid to make almost every week. The beautiful thing about a rock solid run game is how much clock it chews. It dramatically reduces the amount of possessions your opponent has to try to score and keep up. We should continue to run until a team figures out a way to stop us, and even then still only mix in play action which will give Baker every advantage in the passing game.

  42. GMC hater Says:

Pass protection has a long way to go still.

  43. Steven007 Says:

Munchie, there you go again man. As Matt said in response to your ludicrous post, no one player single-handedly loses any game. Ever. Sorry man, that tired narrative is crap. If that’s the best you can come up with…. Well, I guess it is.

  44. DoooshLaRue Says:

Calm your Kazoo looking head down Luke.
You are the new penalty machine on our OL and the apparent heir to Durable Donnie as far as stupid self-inflicted penalties go.
You had one good year and have been trash most of this year.

    Slow your roll bro.

  45. adam from ny Says:

    yes more bauer sharp please…

also we can’t let a qb like caleb, who wears nail polish on his nails beat us…(sorry had to say it)

time to get even frothier at soldier field…

    soldier in…get a beastly win…soldier out

  46. Weebs10 Says:

Rod can’t help himself. Trash “fan”

  47. honestBucFan Says:

Rod Munch was absent those games that JD10 started. Now that Baker is back, he is back. I wonder….why… hmmm
