“I Don’t Think That Locker Room Is Playing For Todd Bowles”

October 8th, 2026

“PFT Commenter” weighs in.

No upset tonight, says one of the most popular voices in sports media today.

“PFT Commenter,” co-host of possibly the top sports podcast going, “Pardon My Take,” had his occasional sitdown with the crew at “Wakeup Barstool” this morning, seen on FS1.

There, unlike some intelligent statheads, PFT Commenter believes, yes, the Bucs really are as bad as their record says they are.

And PFT Commenter believes that for the Bucs to rise up tonight to upset the Cowboys in Jerry’s World on national streaming, the Bucs have to be motivated and br put in the right position by their head coach, Todd Bowles.

That ship sailed last year, PFT Commenter said. Not only are the Bucs not playing for Bowles, he believfes, but Bowles is unable to motivate them.

“There is a thing that you always have, especially on Thursday night, it’s always creeping up in the back of your mind,” PFT Commenter began. “We’re not as smart as we think we are about the NFL.

“They pay these guys [underdogs] to play football too, even if your team is a massive underdog. I’m going to make an exception with the Tampa Bay Bucs. I think they are as bad as we think they are.

“It’s because, like, yes, they’ve got some good players. They’ve got some talent there. But if you want to be a bad team that pulls off this type of an upset, like a frisky bad team, you usually have to have a decent coach. And I don’t think that locker room is playing for Todd Bowles. I don’t, no.

“I think [the Bucs] kind of moved on from [Bowles] as recently as, you know, last year even. It seems pretty clear that he’s not the guy that’s going to motivate these [players] like an upstart ragtag group of backups into outperforming what we think their talent level is.

“So I do not, I am not believing in the Bucs tonight. No.”

It’s hard to argue with what PFT Commenter says. Look, the defense, despite the usual no-pass rush (SOS), is playing well enough if not good; the offense is a total trainwreck.

If Bowles did have the ability and had answers to the losing, you’d think he would have already reached into his bag of tricks and used them once in the past 13 games — except against a dreadful franchise like the Cardinals or scratching and clawing out a close home win in the rain to a losing team last year like the Stinking Panthers were.

PFT Commenter nailed it about the ability to overperform. The Bucs underperform. Regularly. The Bucs failed to cover 12 straight games leading into the Packers game last week, where it was a push.

Nothing screams “underperforming” like failing to cover 12 straight games, which is an NFL record in the Super Bowl era.

    The team is leaderless
Fraud Bowels is incapable of being any different than his past.
    What has he ever done?

  2. Lakeland Says:

The players are playing for the players
That’s the case in all professional sports
They could careless about the coaches, fans etc
They play sports for mega millions, and nothing else

What part of this people don’t understand?

Once they get the security of guaranteed millions
You can bet your last dollar, their production will fall off

  3. Scott Says:

Its over. At this point casual fans and most sports media have lost interest in the Bucs. What else do they have to loose? It’s time for a change.

  4. Plan Bowles from Outer Space Says:

    We told ya so.

  5. Leopold Stotch Says:

What happened during last year’s bye. Seriously. I just don’t get it. Maybe the ho hum “we’ll be okay” measured level headed demeanor just completely infected the players and they figured it would correct itself, as well as the loafing and other potential shenanigans. It’s just too late I think unfortunately for him to turn the team around.

  6. Plan Bowles from Outer Space Says:

They got the ‘Bags’ As they say.

  7. Lakeland Says:

This isn’t just a Tampa Bay thing, or a NFL thing
It’s happening in all major sports in America

“””Show me the money””” .. that’s what it’s all about
There’s no love for the game…. it’s love for the Almighty dollar

  8. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

I can still see Mike Smith’s grinning on the Falcons sideline in this Thursday Night Football
BEAT DOWN and the final score doesn’t reflect the BEAT DOWN.
Tonight is going to be similar
    Nov. 3, 2016

    Falcons

    L 28–43

  9. David Says:

The Cowboys aren’t as great as everyone says. The Buccs have the most expected points taken away by sacks and turnovers. We’re holding the ball too long and taking penalities that kill drives. The defense is keep us in game. The Cowboys defense is awful even with Joey Porter Jr. joining them. They’re susceptible to running QB’s and we should be able to score enough points. Dak will hold onto the ball longer than Love and the other QB’s we face, so there’s a chance the pressure may hit home tonight and cause some havoc with turnovers. The Buccs pull the upset in big D 27-23.

  10. Lakeland Says:

When one player gets their “bag”, other players get envious
And they threatened to hold out, asking for a trade
They get mad, refuse to practice, while still under contract
They fake injuries, they loaf on the field

All they care about is getting that bag
And once they get that bag, their performance drop, way down
Coaches get fired, GMs get fired, but they still have their bag

  11. Bucks 'n' Bucs Says:

How can they possibly play for this coach. He’s a mannequin. No change in emotion whether winning or losing. How can any of them know if they’re playing like their coach expects when every post-game comment is “We gotta coach it better.” Or “They gotta play it better.” I believe that’s called a cop-out.

  12. Buc1987 Says:

    You suck Todd Bowles!

  13. ProffeserVonBrainStorm Says:

“I Don’t Think That Locker Room Is Playing For Todd Bowles”

Welcome to the party pal!!!! We’ve known that for years now.

No one wants to play for a moron that was gifted a job he isn’t remotely qualified to do.

Every minute he’s in charge is a minute wasted. Bowles sucks out loud.

He’s a bumbling fool walking blindly into maze with no exits.

  14. Plan Bowles from Outer Space Says:

    Inverness to Lakeland…..
Ya got it. They really do call it the Bag. But Oh Well…lat least we can watch it. I can watch on Azon and enjoy th game.

  15. JvFlowz Pa' Dios Says:

Someone please add a like button to this comment section, because this take is about to be on and popping!

Time to clean house and start fresh, because this coaching staff is completely lost. They don’t even know how to call a timeout at the right moment. And what happened to using a fullback? We used to have a Hall of Famer in Mike Allstott running through walls, and now we barely touch the position. The one time we actually utilized a two-back set with Tucker, we punched it in for a touchdown—and then completely abandoned it.

If you’re rolling with a rookie quarterback who needs protection and an easier read, you have to put two backs behind him. It slows down the pass rush and gives the defense way more to think about. But what do I know? I’m just a couch coach who’s only been watching this game since 1980.

  16. Dubcity6 Says:

Lol all the fluff is funny to me

Maybe the players just aren’t that good

Falcons have a better QB, RB, OL, WRs, and defense

    Bucs have a better Kicker

  17. Plan Bowles from Outer Space Says:

    Problem…..Bags in College.

  18. Plan Bowles from Outer Space Says:

To me the players do not look bad. Just seems they are always out of position?

  19. Oldbucsfan Says:

If the players see their owners don’t care and not do anything about this and accept losing with the same coach year in and year out, then then why should they?

  20. Steven007 Says:

Lakeland, you keep mentioning over and over about guys getting their bag and then being completely unmotivated. Then how does that explain all the other guys that have their bag that apparently are motivated? Very well paid players all across the NFL playing very well. So it’s not just that obviously. Clearly there are other issues. Coaching. Certainly. We all know that it’s over for Todd at this point. So, who really knows what motivates these guys? I do believe that certain coaches can press those buttons. Todd doesn’t seem to be one of those guys. Hopefully the next guy is.

  21. SkunkApe Says:

Not “covering” has nothing to do with how bad they are. Spreads have to do with the perception of the team, which in this case means that people who focus on betting thought they were better than they actually were. They’ve been a bad team since the beginning of last year, with too many squeaker victories on the way to 6-2. They’re terrible. Betting lines are a separate, unrelated, and irrelevant matter.

  22. Popcornmike67 Says:

It’s obvious the team is not playing for Bowles. Many of us have already said that Bowles has lost the locker room. It just seems like something just not right in Tampa and hasn’t been for the past 2 years. there have been a lot of players complaining about several issues but nothing solid to pin point the exact problem. However, from what I’ve heard and read Bowles is the star in it all

  23. Lakeland Says:

    Dubcity6

Bucs players are not that good
They are the most overrated players in the NFL
They get paid big bucks from the Bucs
No other team in the NFL will pay them that much money

They are bums, imaginary talent, that only Bucs fans can see

  24. geno712 Says:

    Kenton Smith Says:
    June 27th, 2026 at 10:30 am
Baker is gonna play another 7 or 8 years. He’s gonna win a championship, or 2 or 3.

    Kenton Smith Says:
    July 8th, 2026 at 9:48 am
Joe, on Christmas Day of 2022 (Mayfield was leading the Bucs to victory opening day with Bucs at Vikings 2023) the Rams, led by Baker Mayfield and his QB coach Zac Robinson, put a 51-14 spanking on Sean Payton and the Broncos. That’s more than 6 words to make your ears perk up, Joe. But that oughta make them perk up again.

  25. Pewter Power Says:

If after a blowout the Glazers don’t fire bowles it means just simply losing or getting blown out isn’t embarrassing so i hope the brown paper bags resurface and let’s see how they feel

  26. Greg-therealone Says:

Personally, I would love to see something change. I would love to see Todd Bowles become someone he has never been before. I can’t imagine that he likes the circumstances he’s in. The players that he trusted to lead aren’t leading. The coaches that he trusted to get this done – aren’t.

It is not impossible that he feels backed into a corner and comes out swinging and taking no prisoners. Personally, I would love it.

I don’t think he has it in him. He’s a trust the process guy, not a break glass in case of emergency guy.

  27. Saskbucs Says:

    Lakeland… not true.

Did you play pro sports? I did.

The money is part of your day to day life. Those guys don’t sit there thinking about it. We are all humans. Motivation comes from many different places. Just cause money is outta the equation, which it’s not cause there are next contracts, attracting a new team etc. doesn’t mean that you stop playing.

Haha why would any star player who gets the big bag keep performing? I don’t think you thought this through.

Coaching matters immensely. Liking the guy is one thing, Bowles apparently has that down but there are so many factors. Ideas that guys buy into. Having fun. Guidance to improve yourself and therefore the team. Putting guys into positions they are comfortable, to have success and they can play free and full speed.

  28. McBucky Says:

Todd Bowles is still here? Do the players know this?

  29. King of Citrus Park Says:

Correct. They are not playing for this coach. That coach threw them under the bus ever since 3rd and 28. He did it again in the offseason and still to this day. The trashed his assistants and fired them. Threw the fans under the bus this summer. But still didnt get fired somehow. In his mind he can do no wrong. He would have 15 Superbowls by now if players werent so stupid and could get his system. The guy is self absorbed, lazy, arrogant and unwilling to change or adapt to the talent on his roster.

Who wouldnt want to play for him?

  30. BUCMAN88 Says:

We resemble a poorly coached team and he lost that locker room last year and for some reason kept his job still. We were never going to go to a Super Bowl with him and i predicted us going 3-14 it will be a stretch if we do that now even #1 pick here we come Shame on the Glazers they are the real morons

  31. Hodad Says:

Ship all the high priced vets out along with Bowles, and Licht. Start now! Fire sale at One Buc Place. Whoever you can’t trade cut. Maybe they’ll play for their next coach.

  32. ocala Says:

I think the Bucs are talented, but they have an awful NFL head coach.

  33. King of Citrus Park Says:

And he wont get a true DC because he doesnt want anyone seeing his flaws in a defensive game plan or play calling

  34. Popcornmike67 Says:

I am sure the Glazers and Licht are aware of the issues with this team I am pretty confident there will be many changes, the only problem is, these changes may not happen til January

  35. CMallie Says:

Did they fire Bowles yet? No??? Then why are you posting Bucs stories? There is literally nothing worth discussing until the Glazers flush the Toilet Bowles.

  36. Joe Says:

Did they fire Bowles yet? No??? Then why are you posting Bucs stories?

Joe has zero interest in shutting down a successful business until early January.

  37. SkunkApe Says:

I’m all for the fire sale suggestion. Ship off everyone who’s not on a low-priced or rookie contract, with a few exceptions. Wirfs stays, obviously. Godwin stays out of respect. Goedeke can stay because he’s still pretty good. Vea can stay because he’s the best we have on the DL. Every other veteran contract, take the draft pick. Probably just end up with a bunch of picks in rounds 5 through 7, but we’ll be restarting with young guys next year under a new coach.

  38. BigZ Says:

No kidding.. it stopped awhile ago.

  39. gotbbucs Says:

The longer these guys play for Bowles the less motivated they get. Most of our drafted defensive players have their best season as rookies because Bowles hasnt had a chance to ruin them yet, and for most of them, especially the front 7 players, their play will drop off every subsequent year.

  40. Ballwin Bucs Fan Says:

Joe please write an article listing human beings who could potentially step in off the street to be offensive coordinator next week. Gruden and Arians come to mind, but I’m sure there are other offensive minds not currently coaching somewhere, right?

  41. Capt.Tim Says:

Some of the Bucs are talented.
But the worst players are at key positions. Grouped together.

Guards and Center. All playing very badly
Mauch might still be recovering. Barton is out of position.
Together, they may be the worst interior line unit I’ve ever seen.
And watching Offensive lines is what I do.

The Defensive line has some bad players. It might have a couple good players.
I can’t tell. Our alleged best pass rushers are always dropping in coverage.
Rushing the passer is the second most important thing a team has to accomplish.
Yet in Tampa, the pass rush seems like it’s forgotten.

    Can’t protect the passer
    Can’t rush the passer.
    Bad offensive systems.
    Bad Defensive system
Bad Head Coach. Bad Offensive Coordinator
Bad General Manager, who built this team without addressing the fundamentals.

Gotta fire OC soon. Promote Carberry
Fire Jason Licht week 15. Give the new GM time to get his staff settled.
    Before
We fire Todd Bowles and his staff after the last whistle.

2 years before we are a good team again.

  42. Tye Says:

    Who can blame them!
they need to protect themselves for a hopeful winning HC and DC 2027….

  43. BucU Says:

Start the fire sale tomorrow morning. Trade everybody for draft picks.

  44. BucfaninOregon Says:

So now the problem is the money according to Lakeland. Not the malfunctions by the HC and less obviously the GM. SASK called him out as only partially correct. But, all teams are made of players that want $$. It’s the American way. I never have been a pro or even an amateur player. But I know that $$ is not the sole motivator of NFL players. Mike Evans showed us all that. Do you think he is unhappy with his move from a low tax state to California? Don’t make me laugh!

  45. stvcl Says:

If I was a player on this Buccaneer team I’d be screaming at my agent to get me tf outta here. I understand future HOF’r Mike Evans sentiments 100%

  46. Tucker Says:

You can’t tell me a defense with no pass rush is good you can shut all the way up with that.

  47. Newbie Says:

“I Don’t Think That Locker Room Is Playing For Todd Bowles” – No sh!t Sherlock.

  48. Lakeland Says:

    What have Baker done
    What have Vita done
    What have Winfield done
    What have Otten done
    What have Kancey done
    What have Anzalone done
    What have Zyon done

    Do l need to continue

I will leave the rest for your imagination

  49. Lakeland Says:

And those 7 players will probably consume half of 2027 cap space

    I have the facts

I don’t need an audience backing me

  50. Joe Says:

Joe please write an article listing human beings who could potentially step in off the street to be offensive coordinator next week.

Joe already typed a story speculating Ken Zampese could take over if Zac Robinson is run as Zampese at least has experience calling plays in the NFL.

But Joe is much more inclined to not rock the boat. You either play for the playoffs or you play for the draft. The Bucs are out of the playoffs. So playing for the draft is essential.

And so far, the Bucs are playing wonderfully for an excellent draft pick.

  51. Lakeland Says:

I can add another 6 but money underperforming players off the top of my head
But there’s no need to, even a fool should understand this

The Bucs are the only team DUMB enough to pay these BUMS

  52. Lakeland Says:

    “”6 big money underperforming players””

  53. Bobby M. Says:

I wanted Bowles gone last year so watching him twist in the wind with each loss is somewhat entertaining. Bucs need to send him and Arians packing. I’ve heard enough of his biased opinion on Bowles and Leftwich. Licht I believe gets the opportunity to pick another coach, I firmly believe he was forced to stick with Bowles due to the timing and Arians obvious influence within the organization. I don’t think we know what we have from guys like Yaya, Walker, Bain, etc….Bowles can’t develop anyone and certainly won’t use them to their strengths. I think with some better coaching and some draft picks, we can compete in our division fairly quickly. To contend we probably need a couple years but teams prove every year they can go from last to first in one offseason.

  54. Lakeland Says:

Mike Evans is playing for greatness
His ambition is the Hall of Fame
These high paid bums are no where near the Hall of Fame

  55. Arnie platz Says:

Key phrase “have to be motivated”. From what I have seen thus far this year this team is highly unmotivated. That’s on Bowles

  56. Wayne Kerr Says:

    Do l need to continue

I will leave the rest for your imagination
    —————————-

Why don’t you start by telling all the rest
of us simpletons what Bowles has done?

There’s other games on the TV you should try watching doesn’t look like the Seattle Seahawks came up. Doesn’t look like the San Francisco 49ers gave up. Doesn’t look like the Cleveland Browns gave up. It doesn’t look like the Atlanta Falcons gave up

There are teams that get their money that still have self-respect and pride, and it starts at the top

  57. Lakeland Says:

Mike got tired of playing with these bums in Tampa Bay
So he went to a winner with quality players, for less money
    I don’t blame him

  58. Newbie Says:

Lakeland – there is no one person responsible for this mess. It’s a “team” effort. Starts with Glazers. 100%. It’s their mess and they did nothing about it when they had a chance in 2024 and 2025. It’s the coaches. We are the worst coached team in the NFL and it’s not even close. And yes, it is the players. They are un-prepared, un-inspired, underwhelming. When your kicker is your best player two years running, you are in trouble. Special teams still stinks. We sign guys that should never have received contracts. Players are bored. It’s the same excuses and BS. It goes on and on and on.
The Bucs are going to get rocked tonight. Its gonna be ugly. And we will hear the same BS at the presser from Bowles about coaching better, communicating better, looking at ourselves in the mirror, blah blah blah. Nothing is going to change until the Glazers WTF up and do something about it. And we are all going to have to wait until Black Monday. So as someone around here said – EMBRACE THE SUCK.

  59. Tackleblockwin Says:

Bowles has the experience and knowledge to be a very good coach. Unfortunately his stubbornness is his downfall. He is the kind of person that knows the square pin won’t fit in the round hole, but he will keep trying to make it fit.

  60. Optimistic Says:

    BucU Says:
    October 8th, 2026 at 4:42 pm
Start the fire sale tomorrow morning. Trade everybody for draft picks.

    It takes 2 to Tango.
Are there any teams out there that want the Bucs underperforming players?
Has any team approached the Bucs about a possible trade?
Who on the Bucs team is worthy of a decent draft pick in a trade?

  61. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs record in Thursday night games is dismal. We’re 0-4 since Bowles became HC in 2022, but 3-1 under BA in his 2019-2021 tenure with us while Bowles was DC.

Still, every season is different and you never know how any 1 game is gonna turn out. Bucs really haven’t had much of a chance to practice since Sunday, but maybe that’s good. It’s really easy to ‘overthink things’ and this isn’t the game for that. If anything, Bucs need to simplify & get back to basics.

Since we’ve got a rookie QB only making his 2nd start, I’d like to see them emphasize the running game. Stopping the run is the Cowboys biggest weakness, and IF our OLine is ever gonna ‘git it together’ it’ll probably be in run-blocking first.

Offensively the Cowboys are very talented (#2 offense) averaging a tad over 30 PPG. Dak’s throwing at a 70% completion rate, and they’re averaging 51% on 3rd down conversions, and over 81% on Red Zone TD Conversion percentage. Worse yet, they don’t hardly turn the ball over (only 2 giveaways).

Defensively though they have issues (#28 defense) allowing 28 PPG average. Kinda explains why they’re 2-2. Their Run Defense ranks #31, allowing a tad over 150 YPG, at an average of 4.8 YPC. Their pass defense is slightly better than that, ranking #24. Our only real chance of winning is to outscore them most likely in a high scoring game.

  62. Lakeland Says:

    Newbie,

    I totally agree with you

We need a rebuild, a new coaching staff, and a new GM
I’ve been saying it for years, the players need to held accountable

Not one single player from last year team should have received an extension
Not one player from last season team should have been re-signed
And they definitely shouldn’t have picked up Kancey 5th year option for $15 million

If you’re going to suck, don’t suck in Cap Hell

  63. Todd Watch 2026 Says:

Six months ago I said 6-11 and I was so off target – this a 3 win team at best

  64. Mike Johnson Says:

I live out of Buc area. I don’t have prime. Now am I going to a bar or to a friends house to watch this game. The Bucs will play hard. But still go down. 0-5 fellow Buc fans. And we all know the Glazers do not have a pair. I see somewhere between 4 to 6 wins at the most for our Team. This season is truly..A BUC LIFE.

  65. buc4evr Says:

How come the fan base saw this three years ago and the ownership didn’t. Bowles is done… total failure.

Will the Glazers do something tonight after the blow out loss? That includes dumping Jason who has been telling them some pretty tall stories for the past three years. How can an owner trust their GM at this point? I bet the Glazers are kicking themselves for not promoting Coen. We all know what has to happen.

  66. Sam Says:

    This franchise is a joke.

  67. Buddha Says:

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. I’m a contrarian, that is how I manage to win wagering on the NFL. Last week I had the Titans +10. Covered. The Dolphins +9.5. Covered! The Rams -3.5 Covered. The Buccaneers +3. PUSH.

I’m on the Buccaneers +9. The action network reports that 80 per cent of the public is on the Cowboys. Eighty per centers cover less than 40 per cent of the time. I believe in the odds-makers.

One thing that has not been discussed sufficiently is how much better the defense has played this year. The DVOA site has them ranked as the 9th best defense in the league. That is a radical improvement over last year. If you’re a bttor sometimes you have to hold your nose and make your plays.

Kudos to the Tampa Bay Rays. Those guys make us proud. What great management and cheap owners. Can’t wait for the salary cap.

  68. Dubcity6 Says:

If you cant look good without an amazing coach, you just aren’t that good.. a coach can make you look better.

    Want proof.

Lavonte David and Mike Evans never needed good coaches to look amazing.

Bucs have bad coaching AND bad players.. they just aren’t that good.

Some are decent NFL players but most are average to below at best

  69. Optimistic Says:

Which members of this Buc team will be elected as all-pro?

  70. Lakeland Says:

We had a great roster 25 years ago

    Sapp
    Lynch
    Keyshawn
    Alstott
    Dunn
    Rice
    Barber
    Brooks
    Kelly
    Jackson
    Quarles
    Lynch
    Abraham

I can go on and on

Right now we have a roster loaded with bums

And it’s a joke that Bucs fans keep saying they are talented players
Especially when none of them are Top 10 at their position (Maybe Wirfs)

  71. DBS Says:

No No you can’t blame it on poor Todd. It’s all Baker’s fault Bruce said so. No it’s all the players fault. They get their bag and quit giving all their efforts. Please don’t fire Bowles because he doesn’t play in the games only the players do. They don’t do what poor Bowles teaches them!
    ( Sarcasm)

  72. Lakeland Says:

They need to fire Bowles and Licht

And get rid of 90% of the players

    That’s what l think

  73. Lakeland Says:

But they need to clean house in January

I’m not a fan of in season firing

  74. Couch Fan Says:

Of course they arent playing for the Retodd. They can say they love him all they want but they clearly wont perform for him because he doesnt demand excellence. I’d love my boss to if he never disciplined me even though I made mistake after mistake and still got paid either way.

  75. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

Letting Bowles continue as coach would be the franchise saying that incompetence is acceptable…Which it has been for a while, the “standards” have fallen so much that losing is considered normal. Well, it’s been normal over the last 13 games, or whatever it’s been.

I wish is was that easy. But with all the huge contracts given out to the top 10 salaried players. cutting them would be financial Armageddon. The dead cap is a killer.

If we get the right head coach in here next year, this team can pull a Jacksonville and go from 3-14 to 11-6. Unfortunately, I have very little confidence in the Glazer kids to find us a great coach. They will probably bring in a Mike Tomlin who will get us to a 9-8 record and a first round playoff loss every season. Sound familiar?
