Bucs GM Jason Licht Not Spotted On Sidelines Against Packers

October 5th, 2026

The legendary JoeBucsFan.com game photographer got a question from Joe after yesterday’s loss to the Packers in Tampa:

“Where was Jason Licht?”

There was no photo taken of the Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager on the field, where Licht has watched games for years. No pregame picture, either.

Very odd.

(If there’s evidence of Licht on the field yesterday, feel free to put a link in the comments below.)

It’s easy to speculate Licht wasn’t on the field because he wants to distance himself from Todd Bowles or didn’t want to be shown on TV and become a topic of conversation during a FOX broadcast. But Joe doesn’t think that’s fair after one only game not being seen on the sidelines.

Perhaps Licht wasn’t feeling well (along with tens of thousands of Bucs fans) or maybe somebody spilled coffee on his suit? The lines of speculation could be endless.

Licht was heard doing his regular pregame interview on the Buccaneers Radio Network, about 25 minutes before kickoff. The interview did not sound pre-recorded.

Joe is curious to see if Licht is on the field Thursday night for the Buccaneers-Cowboys game.

Everyone is fired there just chillen till the last check they know it

  2. Todd Says:

Licht will not be on the sidelines of any Bucs games after this season ever again.

  3. Newbie Says:

Distance himself from Bowles? To me, they are attached at the hip along with BA. Its not just Todd Bowles. Or Baker. Or the OL play. Or no pass rush. Or resigning players to second contracts (ZM, LG). Culture stinks. Team quit on their coaches last year. It goes on and on and on.

THIS IS A GROUP EFFORT. Start at the top and CLEAN HOUSE!

  4. Darin Says:

He was spotted at the Jaguars Bengals game😆

  5. GMC hater Says:

If I was him I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near this trainwreck of a coaching staff either.

  6. DS Says:

He is searching for the next coach, wonder if team
    Glazers keeps Licht

  7. FortMyersDave Says:

Licht is going with the “Every man for himself” mentality as Bowles goes to 0-9 by the bye week and Jason knows he is on thin ice too, so he will cowardly let fans twist in the wind as he plans how to spin how he had no involvement in Bowles being a total loser and how Licht cannot have a a backup qb…. Fire Bowles and then Fire Licht. Free Tampa. Go Rays and Bolts.

  8. SkunkApe Says:

Hopefully he was in the Glazer suite talking about relieving Todd of his duties sooner rather than later.

  9. can-we-get-rid-of-Licht-now-please Says:

yep I called it – he’s hiding – or he’s out buying an umbrella to shelter from all the spit , stale beer, and who-knows-what that Bucs fans will hurl at him on the gauntlet from the sideline to the tunnel – the pusillanimous psychopath GM will be cowering in the owners box starting now

  10. FlBoy84 Says:

Jason has only hired 2 coaches (Koetter & BA), don’t think he & todd are tied together at all considering todd was basically forced on him. Think he’ll get 1 more shot at finding another coach.

  11. Todd Says:

Huh-Uh they are tied together , because you can bet your last dollar that had Licht gone to the Glazers after last season and said ” Joel and Bryan, I really like Todd , but he lost the locker room and we need to move on” Bowles would have been fired no doubt about it.
???? You have no idea if that happened or not. –Joe Licht is complicit in keeping Bowles around.

  12. SummerofGeorge Says:

After watching videos of Licht coming off the field after the Browns game and getting cussed out, to which he mouthed back a few curse words, I’m guessing he chose to go hide in a corner.

I would too if I had been exposed as a carnival barker and a fraud.

This is his construction and his vision. And it sucks out loud.

    Fire Todd and Licht now!!!

  13. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    Can we
Yes… I saw a YouTube video from the game before last of players going through the tunnel to the locker room after the game and the verbal abuse was cruel
But.. it’s a tough world and only the strongest survive and the LOSERS are culled and kicked to the curb..
JL is a fence sitting color between the lines check cashing GM
The whole franchise is leader and visionless starting with the owners.

  14. BucsFan81 Says:

He is filling out job applications to work at Publix because he knows he is about to be fired along with toilet Bowles

  15. can-we-get-rid-of-Licht-now-please Says:

and what is that sick psychopath Licht doing with that duck ?! sick – unless the Joes are cleverly suggesting that Licht is “ducking” out of being verbally abused by fans at the stadium – maybe the fans will forbear vengeance on Licht if he holds a small defenseless animal in his arms at all times

  16. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Bruce Arians could be considered responsible for all of this as he hung the team out to dry knowing they would have to default to Todd. Glazers let this go on 3 years too long

  17. Lt. Dan Says:

“Where was Jason Licht?” If JL had any sense he would have been on the horn yesterday trying to find a HC a DC and an OC.

  18. Truth be Told Says:

it is Time for a Regime change. It was a Nice Run with Jason for a bit but now it time to get him and Terrible Coach Todd out of the building.

  19. Gman Says:

    Ring of DIShonor you morons.

  20. CBucs Says:

Licht could have made replacing Bowles last offseason with someone other than Coen the plan, but he didnt.

Instead Licht was apparently for bringing Bowles back. Which should be enough with losing 10 of 12 going back to last season, and more losses to come. To get the Glazers to look for another GM in the offseason or now in anticipation of that move.

Keeping Bowles was enough to drive Mike Evans out of town.

  21. East Flatbush Buc Says:

Such a sad state of affairs. Gotta blow it up and start from the ground up

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

I rtemember when my brother had Cancer. The Dr told him, We not only got the malignancy during surgery, But we removed lots of surrounding tissue also just to be sure. My brother has been cancer free now for 8 yrs. Remove Bowles and all surrounding associations. That means you too Licht. Sorry, but you gotta get all of the infected areas. To be honest though, Its the GLAZERS fault.

  23. Hopes on 2027 Says:

Licht knows he has to lower the boom on Bowles soon, he may want to keep his distance.

  24. Allen Lofton Says:

This game will really get the Todd Bowles haters riled up on Thursday night football. The Bucs defense has been decent. If the Bucs continue down this path of losing Robinson will be shoved off the plank onto the lifeless body of Todd Bowles.
The Glazers are about the bottom line…profit. They control everything and the bottom line means everything to them including assembling a good team. There have been only two owners of the Bucs and it all came down to the bottom line… Profit.

  25. Yeah, great. Says:

    Probably tightening up that resume.

  26. Saskbucs Says:

None of us know how complicit Licht is in the Bowles saga.

Arians, the Glazers, 3 division titles blah blah.

I am a big Licht supporter but I am enraged with him for sinking this team and not demanding coaching changes when it was obvious it needed to happen.

Firing Licht would be a massive risk. I think he has acquired a lot of talent for this team. A team that could be NFC contenders with the right coaching and schemes.

I know the Bucs will easily find coaching upgrades. I am not sure they will find a better GM.

I would like Licht to get another shot with a new coaching staff. If the Bucs can’t win then, well it will be obvious he needs to go.

  27. PortlandBucsFan Says:

Did they at least fire Jason at this point then? It would be some measure of accountability for this travesty! He probably just headed to the parking lot early so as not to get pelted with tomatoes from the jeering crowd.

  28. Tony1775 Says:

Steelers signed Sean Murphy Bunting of practice squad.

  29. Bosch Says:

Here is how it should play out after the season.

Glazers: “It’s time to move on from Todd. Go take care of it, Jason.”

    Licht: “yes, sir!”

    :::2 hours later:::

Licht: “It is taken care of. He is cleaning out his desk and security will escort him out.”

Glazers: “Excellent! Now, about your job…”

  30. ChiBuc Says:

Jason’s annual hide during/after a slide. That is a prime example of pathetic leadership….if nobody sees you, then no fingers can be pointed your way

  31. Mark Says:

The team is drowning in flop sweat. Of course Licht is running away from Bowles, he is trying to save himself and his staff from the coming inferno.

After Thursday’s loss the Glazer’s need to do the right thing: put Bowles out of our misery. They are not doing him any favors, letting him twist in the wind. They bought his BS, and now there is hell to pay. The team needs to slam the reset button now, and do everything possible to preserve the younger players to see if they can be salvaged by a real coaching staff next year.

  32. LJ'sDaddy Says:

I don’t get the disdain for Licht. This is a coaching problem not a GM problem. We have the talent. Inept coaching is obviously the downfall.

Where the hell was RB Tucker this week? he came in briefly and was effective.

I think Jason SHOULD and WILL stay. Todd and Zac couldn’t be gone soon enough. By the way, how to you have a tough guy mentality in your team when your two head guys are named Todd and Zac…how cute. UGGHHH.

  33. pelbuc Says:

He’s as bad a GM as Bowles is a HC. Glazers need to flush the toilet and make sure ALL the turds are gone!!!!

  34. ModHairKen Says:

Who cares? It made no difference.

  35. Simeon97 Says:

Feel like rock bottom is about to be hit this week. And we’ll know a lot soon. This weak minded poorly coached team with a rookie undrafted qb going to Dallas on short week for the whole country to see. What will the glazers do with the mini bye? They could dump him Friday and new leadership (whoever) gets 10 days to prep for pitt. I doubt this happens though

Bruce Arians could be considered responsible for all of this as he hung the team out to dry knowing they would have to default to Todd. Glazers let this go on 3 years too long

This trope has to end. Regardless whetherLicht’s direct fault or not, neither position is a good look for him. If he hasn’t won the trust of ownership after 14 yrs, then he is not a competent GM. If he cannot bring anything to the table more than ownerships perspective (Dirk) or a retiring HC, Arians (Todd), he is NOT a competent GM. If every deal and most free agent seems questionable since Spytek’s departure, he is NOT a competent GM. If he cannot initiate change to spark a floundering team, he is NOT a competent GM. If all you can say about him is that he supplies talent, he IS a good scout. Leaders lead. GMs are considered leaders, not lap dogs to HCs and ownership

  37. Bucfanintx Says:

He was packing up his office.. or should be

  38. Todd Says:

Pffftt-WE DO NOT HAVE THE TALENT-YOU ARE WHAT YOUR FREAKING RECORD SAYS YOU ARE_PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  39. 3rd and 28 in the Canoe Says:

I’d be really curious to know whether Licht is telling ownership, “I told you so.”

  40. Lakeland Says:

Jason Licht biggest problem is these (Dead Contracts) overpaid dead weight
He’s going to distance himself from Bowles
The exact same way he distanced himself from Dirk and Lovie

But these contracts are hard to explain to the Glazers

  41. Rob5 Says:

I think you all misread what is going on with JL and the
Glazers …I think they were very worried about blowing
up the coaching staff once again in the their minds too soon
because of the past history of how that has worked out…
also they like TB…in turn i think that has made them overly cautious and now its coming back to bite them hard…
but i also think some of the players JL has made us believe
are not as good as he thought or has portrayed them to be..
and those draft choices are on him…

  42. Rob5 Says:

My thing is if you dump JL then you better make sure the new
GM is better than him with a proven track record or things could get much worse for us…

  43. PortlandBucsFan Says:

Jason, Todd & the whole coaching staff should have to sit in a room together and watch the Gator coach’s presser after the Missouri loss. Wheather you like the Gator organization or loath them this guy takes accountability for what happens with that team. Todd could learn something from the way Jon Sumrall hits problems head on.

  44. Todd Says:

we have not won even ONE game-no it cannot get any worse…….

  45. Rob5 Says:

That’s right is this JL or have the Glazer family been meddling
and telling JL what to do …

  46. Let em bake Says:

The number one priority is not losing the locker room. If top brass feels they can continue with Todd until seasons end, and preserve some semblance of hope or positivity, he’ll remain. If players, ala Tristian, begin to distance themselves, and the effort ( not result ) visibly diminishes, that’s a horrid look. You replace Bowles to protect what good reputation he has earned. You don’t let him dangle in the wind for 3 months. You fire him because you want to protect him from the landslide of negativity the next months will bring. You put him out of his misery, so to speak. These relationships will last long after. You act accordingly.

  47. Blake Greenfield Says:

Probably because the owners don’t want him dropping f bombs to the fans again.

  48. TONY Says:

Fire the GM and the Head Coach. Tom Brady cant save you

  49. can-we-get-rid-of-Licht-now-please Says:

good intel Tony1775 – I would wager that SMB might get a pick-six off Jalon in 2 weeks

  50. Winny Testaverde Says:

I have a theory…true or not. There was a Tik Tok reel from the aftermath of the Minnesota game ( admittedly could have been Cleveland…making this theory null and void ) where fans were cussing out the team on their way to the locker room…especially Licht…who looked Ozempic-ed while scurrying awkwardly. I don’t blame him for not wanting the harassment….deserved or not.

  51. PortlandBucsFan Says:

Jason, Todd & the coaching staff should sit in a room and watch Jon Sumrall’s presser after the Missouri loss. Like the Gators or loath them they have a guy who is accountable for their failures and their success. He didn’t shirk the pressure and said that it starts with him. Seems to be a standup dude with a fiery passion to win. Bucs could use some of that fire and passion in their coaches about now.

  52. Jabber Says:

He didn’t want to hear it from the fans again. That Cleveland game I watched and heard him tell a fan to F off. I hope the Cowboys hang 50 on us and they finally end this toilet bowl experiment

  53. Hodad Says:

Maybe he’s in the witness protection program.

  54. #1bucsfan Says:

Some of yall think JL is the problem and will be fired. There’s good reason but I don’t think that. JL has brought talent young and old honestly a good mixture. It’s not the GM job to coach and develop the talent. Oline regressed after being top 3 in 24 that’s coaching , offense not able to sustain drives , put point on the board that’s coaching , not getting sacks that’s coaching and I will add defense did a good job holding the packs to 17. all of its coaching. Jason is one of the better GMs in football. Y’all cry and say it’s only cause of Brady he got a ring. Brady played a part just like all 53 players did. Brady wasn’t sacking or picking off players Brady wasn’t catching TD passes but he was throwing them lol also brady doesn’t come to Tampa of it’s wasn’t for Jason. Jason had bin building the teams since lovie smith brought him in. He made lots of mistakes but learned and built a team good bough to win a SB and then almost repeat the next year. Everyone and there moms thought the Bucs we don’t after Brady left shoot we kept going to the playoffs sorry but that’s better than the lost decade most of us fans went thru.

  55. Greg-therealone Says:

Joe is correct to point out that there were many conversations held behind the scenes that we don’t have a clue about. It’s not impossible that Bowles and his extension was the Glazers idea against Lichts advice. I personally doubt it because of all the nonsense about the Buccaneers man and similar silliness. That sounds to me like someone drank their own koolaid and started thinking they had something figured out. There is really no way to know. That stuff generally stays behind closed doors.

I really don’t care. The Liam Coen debacle – not losing him but the way it happened. Todd Bowles extension, Baker and Vita. The fact that we have overpaid for players recently – Winfield, McCollum, Goedeke. Free agent signing catastrophes, Anzalone, Gainwell etc. I could go on but what’s the point?

The fact of the matter is that there is something rotten behind the scenes in terms of organization. And that is Lichts area. Bowles is just a symptom.

Licht deserves his spot in the ROH. His ring and the work he did to get us there pays for that. Its everything else. Remember when Brady wasn’t showing up to training camp in his last season? That was the beginning of the slide imo. That and the choke job vs the Rams the season before. We were SO close to a repeat.

That is rarified air. If we had repeated? Not many teams have pulled that off.

  56. Buc1987 Says:

    0-5 is coming!

  57. 941bucsfan Says:

Lol finally some common sense people after all these years, are starting to realize licht is and has been a problem and should be fired as well. Too many times people were giving licht the credit of good players, and bowles the blame for bad players.

Think about this my fellow floridians.

After the Mike Evans pick, thankfully bills jumped and took sammy watkins. Licht kicked this thing off with FSU’s own Jameis Winston, then stuck it to us with UF’s own Vernon Hargreaves and FSU’s own Roberto Aguayo, and officially Put his Bucs GM reign in Jeopardy with Miami’s own Rueben Bain.

Back to Nebraska you go Licht! Peace out

  58. gotbbucs Says:

Has to feel good to bring in new defensive players to the roster that the HC/DC has no interest in trying to use properly.

  59. can-we-get-rid-of-Licht-now-please Says:

Greg-therealone makes a good point – “rarefied air” – the Bucs made it out of the divisional round twice before the 2002 Super Bowl (1979 1999) and made it out of the divisional round once with Brady in 2020 – four times in 50 years – rarefied air indeed – the Patriots have won the divisional round 14 times in the 21st century – on January 21, 2014 Licht was hired – before Brady, Licht had five losing seasons and a single mediocre season – then we had Brady for two good years while Bowles screwed up the playoffs with the Rams – the ensuing Bowles HC years have not been pleasant – Licht has been around since 2014 and the faithful sing his praises to the heavens – total and utter delusion

So, then the Bucs operate like the Cowboys and Jerry Jones… Is that what you’re saying!? That the Bucs GM has NO CONTROL!? Well, that’s how it all sounds. Cause, every time it’s something bad, or something we obviously missed, & etc. it’s NEVER EVER Lickt’s fault… On ANY freaking THING. Seriously, no matter what it is.

THEN, he said during the preseason that HE had nothing to do with Daniels (that he was Z-Rob’s guy), or anything to do with signing UDFA. Because, HE only does the draft. And, I’m thinking… Then, what good ARE YOU!? So, other than just the DRAFT, what is it exactly, that YOU do DO!? I mean, it’s unbelievable. Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up. We have a so-called “GM” in name ONLY, with an ownership group, who is FOOTBALL ILLITERATE!? Okay, serves us right… We’re only getting back exactly what WE DESERVE. It’s a totally clueless bunch, who doesn’t know WTF THEY’RE DOING. It’s obvious on EVERY fricking MOVE they make. Wake up! Open your damn eyes! It’s a JOKE. Absolutely, HORRENDOUS.

Sell the damn team NOW. And, WHAT ‘self-respecting’ person or GM would accept that, in having NO power, or control over his OWN JOB!? Why would ANYONE ever accept such a thing, and for this many YEARS!? I mean, you’d think by now, he would’ve spit his freaking foot down!? And, that’s why I don’t buy ANY of this… That, Lickt has ZERO power, and isn’t in-control of literally EVERY fricking decision. I mean, HE wouldn’t even know “who” to hire as the next HC anyway (Coen was Todd’s guy, all the way). Completely, CLUELESS 💯. And, no ‘top-tier’ level HC with other options, would EVER take this job under Lickt, to begin with. Guaranteed. He’s got to GO. That clock is tickin’ hard towards a .399 WinPct without Tom Brady. He is who he is.

  62. Itzok Says:

Hopefully he’s working on trading vita vea, godwin, Winfield, all for draft picks and getting salary cap space

  63. Winny Testaverde Says:

If Licht hurries up…perhaps he can early extent his mediocre, overhyped draft picks at top of the market prices. It’s worked so well of late…why wouldn’t he?!

C.Otton still can’t believe he soaked the team for $30 million dollars…as he’s the next Gronk/Kelce prototype.

“Risk!?” Are you kidding ME!? This is just DELUSIONAL talk, right here. “Easily!?” Just WOW. “Another Shot!?” Noooooooo… We ALREADY KNOW. It’s NOT changing, Dude. Finally, get a fricking CLUE. It’s OVER. This ship has sailed, and he’s just being EXPOSED. You must love the ABUSE. It’s Stockholm Syndrome. WAKE TF UP, Man. Good God. It’s just DELUSIONAL. 13-YEARS. He got fricking lucky ONCE, only because of one, Tom Brady. We are on our way to having a .399 Winning-Percentage,” without him. HE IS EXACTLY WHO HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN. Horrible. Snap out of it! I mean, do you not EVER get tired of being DEAD WRONG on everything, every single-time!? Come on, Man. It’s total INSANITY. He’s AWFUL, in every way imaginable. I mean, he’s not even an ‘impressive’ individual, in any way. And, we will NEVER be able to even COMPETE in this new-age, modern day NFL… Not as long as HE remains involved. Just Bottomline, PERIOD. End of Story. 💯

  67. Fire The Cannons & Fire Todd Says:

Licht has crafted a roster of mediocre and with a bad head coach it looks worse. Out side of Wirfs, the Bucs have ZERO elite talent on the roster. Any HC worth hiring is going to want input or their own competent GM

  68. Mike C Says:

You could give Todd a pro bowl team and he would eff it up, not sure why all the GM hate, talent is CLEARLY being poorly utilized.

  69. Bucnbeers Says:

Never liked Licht. He seems smug and arrogant. Definitely need new blood around one Buc palace.

  70. Steve V Says:

Belichick the ultimate motivator getting stomped at UNC! He doesn’t have the personel and never will to win an ncaa championship He just doesn’t have the TALENT! He can coach till he’s blue ,he doesn’t have the talent

  71. Matt Says:

He’s to embarrassed to show his face with this crap team he put together. Because he got Brady as a free agent and everyone wanted to join us to win a Super Bowl is why he’s even still around. Remember how crappy he was before Brady came around? He needs to go after this year, all those crappy years before Brady, now every year is crap. Only good coach he’s ever hired was Bruce.

  72. Cleanhouse Says:

Bring on Belichick as coach and GM- guarantee all these ridiculous contracts and players wouldn’t be here

  73. CalBucsFan Says:

So there may not be many of us left, but I lived in Tampa when the city was awarded a team, they didn’t pick my name suggestion (or would likely still live there with those season tickets to the winner). I was at every home game for the first two seasons and remember quite clearly the fun all of us new Bucs fans had using a black marker (no Sharpies then guys) to strike out the number of “Go for xx” because the team was so bad, we knew next week we would strikeout last week’s embarrassing loss number and root to loose the next game too.

Why? Because if we were going to be bad, we wanted to be the best bad in NFL history, and sure enough we set the alltime record of 26 losses in a row! To this here in CA now, I stll get stopped by fans of other non-CA teams and we talk about the old days, even 3-days in Costco with a Washington (Commanders?) fan.

Of course, the Bucs finally won and had become respectable once Tony Dungy came in, Gruden took them to the promise land, and then Brady comes along and does the unimaginable for Arians. I loved every one of those moments as if they were family weddings or parties, even out here in CA. And there’s nothing like talking to a medic a doctor’s appt who comments on my Bucs cap, admires it, and then says” I’m a Saints fan.” I jumped up to shake his hand and say “thank you for helping the Bucs win their first game!”

Today though, my soul aches because 27 losses in a row is only 23 games away.

Bowles must go, sh$t, I’m 73 tomorrow and I don’t know if I can make it for 23 more games as bad as they are playing!

  74. CalBucsFan Says:

BTW, I also left out I sat on my dad’s hospital bed and watched their first SB victory on a 13″ TV set hung on the wall. He died several months later and to this day I swear it was the best SB game I’ve ever seen. MY cousins were in San Diego as Raider’s fans, so I got all their paraphernalia from the game afterwards!

    I love Bucs!

He can distance himself from coach Bowles but he cant distance himself from his win record without the Brady Effect.
