The Bucs have talent. It’s why many experts are floored by how bad the Bucs look.
Well, per former Titans general manager and current CBS NFL analyst Ran Carthon, if the Bucs play their cards right, they could add some serious talent to the roster that already has talent and make out like thieves.
CBS has the Bucs winning the race for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2027 draft. And rather than picking Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith or perhaps Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, Carthon said there are always quarterback-needy teams desperate for, say, an Arch Manning or Chambliss, and the Bucs could rake in a haul by trading the No. 1 overall pick.
“Prime spot for you to trade back and just pull as many picks as possible,” Carthon said. “They could charge a king’s ransom.”
The Jets, Carthon pointed out, have three first-round picks in 2027. Maybe swindle the Jets for two first-round picks? They certainly need a quarterback.
Carthon noted of all the teams CBS projects to have a top-10 pick in the draft, only the Bucs, Chargers and maybe Titans don’t need a quarterback.
“They have the leverage to charge whatever they want [for the No. 1 overall pick],” Carthon said.
The last time Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht did something like this, the Bucs made out like bandits.
It was 2018. The Bucs had the No. 7 overall pick and traded down with Buffalo, getting in return picks that turned out to be Vea and Carlton Davis, two key cogs in a Super Bowl defense.
Why not consider that next spring? Only the return might be quite a bit better.

Yeah, Cody Mauch has no explosiveness in his leg yet due to that knee injury last year. His movement is off compared to what he looked like before.
He probably needs another offseason to get that explosiveness back.

Anyone calling for Jason Lichtās head is completely missing the bigger picture. If we can turn that into a second third and a fourth round pick all the better and dump all that salary…
Then if we do get a top one or two pick I would definitely trade it back and try to get a couple of firsts.
I think Jason Licht would need to go out as well. Well he has had some very good pics in the draft he is also had some horrible swing and misses. Additionally since he is quite involved in some of the contracts and hiring and firing of the coaching staff, he is directly responsible for us still having Todd bowls.
I think it would be a dream job for a new head coach and GM to come in with a boatload of pics and a young talented core at most of the positions.

First of all, Baker is here for at least another year and probably 2. Deal with it. Maybe they trade him. There are some teams out there that are desperate. Who knows?
If this season goes as belly up as it looks like it will, Jason Licht wonāt be the one at GM making decisions. Knowing the Glazers they do something similar to what Atlanta did and make him a President of Coffee distribution or something. Maybe they think itās Mike Greenbergās time to shine. It depends on how deep in the weeds he was in the recent debacles with Vea and Baker.
This is also going to depend on who they decide should be the next head coach. There are a number of candidates out there that may have some influence on the process.
Either way this goes down itās going to be a purge process. The organization has shown that itās got serious weaknesses at coach evaluations and player evaluations. They have a problem with keeping players on the field.
Have we busted on DE picks so often because Bowles has a bad scheme? I would say ā¦ maybe. Itās not like any of the players we missed on went on to other teams and excelled. That casts some doubt but maybe.
Carlton Davis went on to do well at corner. Not elite but ā¦ not bad. Sean Murphy Bunting is still bouncing around the league. Jamel Dean is playing fairly well for the Steelers.
Tackles would do well elsewhere as would safeties I think. The biggest problem by far is DE drafting and coaching and defensive scheme. The Linebackers may or may not be another problem. Replacing Lavonte was a tough row to hoe. Weāll see.
The bottom line of all this is we are under performing and Bowles is at the heart of it and needs to go. I think itās time for Licht to go as well. If the team thinks the new coach and Mike Greenberg are a good fit then ā¦. great. I think thats the best outcome.
As far as coaches? Sean McDermitt is interesting. Mike Tomlin is as well but I think I would prefer McDermitt.

If I had made just one different decision, I would be involved in football day-to-day.

This class is loaded at QB. Iām betting that if we hire the right offensive HC he might be able to identify the right qb later in round one and then this would become a great scenario.
Two issues with the premise:
1) the Bucs are not a team that doesnāt need a qb. Baker is a bridge. An expensive bridge, but a bridge non the less

There is an argument to be made I agree. The counter to that would be that we drafted a QB in the second round and then just wasted it. Either it was a bad pick or a failed development processs. Either way a wasted 2nd pick. More recently, the contract with Baker was mishandled imo. Likewise the conversation with Vea. In both situations the Glazers stepped in. Thatās not good. The situation with Devin White was likely mishandled though his current performance with Detroitā¦Whatever. There are other things that I would consider to be messier than they needed to be. I do think that a lot of that seems to be Bowles influence stirring the pot but no one outside the building knows that for sure.
The optics on a lot of those situations was not good. Maybe that was Licht, maybe it was Bowles maybe its just life. Who knows? It didnāt look good and I have my questions. If they keep Licht because they know more than we do – I wouldnāt object depending on who replaces Bowles and how that goes.

Iām going to make two points, and I canāt believe I ever would think either one of them.
First, I am going to do what Munch said and bet on the other team every week from here until the end of the season. That way, if the Bucs win, Iām still happy, but if they lose, I make some money. By the way, they havenāt covered the spread in the last 12 games.
Then, Iām going to hope that I win every bet. Because if they tank and get the number one pick, and I donāt want them throwing games, but I certainly donāt mind, they can trade the number one pick for a boatload of picks and really make a dent in the talent hole that they have on this roster for the next new coach

Anyone blaming Licht for Bowles isn’t paying attention.
The Glazers hire and fire the HC. They have ever since that moron Rich McKay tried to back door Malcolm into hiring Marvin Lewis. They alone make that call – Licht may or may not have input, but they alone decide it.
The Vea and Mayfield contracts have Glazer stink all over them – why else would they suddenly show their faces at training camp and “bam” – contracts suddenly done. Because they didn’t like the press. It seemed like Licht was holding fast on both – as he should have. Neither Vea nor Mayfield should have been paid.
And as for all the defensive busts (FA and Draft) – the one common denominator is Todd Bowles and his idiotic system that inexplicably doesn’t value a pass rush. You have communication issues every single year on defense. Maybe it’s not the talent, but incompetent coaching that’s to blame. And don’t forget, Bowles has input into who “fits his system”. He’s at Indy every year – and it isn’t just for the free hotel breakfast buffet.

Iāve already thought about this. If they get the #1-overall pickā¦ The move would be to trade-it to the #3-overall pick, to a team somewhere around that area. The JETS!? But, you have to be confident that whomever that team is AND the other teams ahead of the āpickā that you get back in return, are ALL taking QBās. That way, you can STILL GET Jeremiah Smith,ā AND a haul. Otherwise, you take Jeremiah Smith, call-it a GREAT DAY, and then move-on. He is the modern day āfootball versionā of LeBron James. A canāt miss future first-ballot HOF WR. And, yo just spent $165-MILLION at the QB-position. Done Deal. It is an EASY, complete NO-BRAINER decision. Though, there is enough ELITE-talent in THIS DRAFT, where you CAN make a very calculated risk, as I mentioned above.

I see a lot of people saying they want Licht fired too… Are you sure about that? I don’t think talent is the primary issue with this team- it’s coaching, and mindset.
Not saying Jason has been perfect by any means- he’s not.
But he is, at worst, the 2nd best GM we’ve ever had in franchise history. Ya’ll really trust that the Glazers kids will find someone better than him? I sure as hell don’t. The Glazer children are the reason we still have Todd, and they’re the reason we just committed 3 years to Mayfield, despite having a lame duck head coach this season. I do realize that the owners have the last word. Licht has just never been that good. Brady brought in the pieces for that Super Bowl, Licht was just a bystander. looks to me like after 12 years, Itās time for new eyes on it.

Dear lord. While that is technically correct, the point is that the D could be better still! Itās not cause Bowles is awful. Constantly fitting square pegs into round holes. Now we have an OC as awful as Todd and you see the offense go backward, OL has no idea what they are doing, Baker is running for his life, WRs not at all on the same page as the QB.
The Bucs have a top 15 roster and a bottom 2 coaching staff! As GMC saidā¦ coaching matters!
I donāt know how much blame Licht should shoulder when it comes to Todd. I hope the Glazers are the driving force there because Licht has made mistakes but he has also made a lot of great picks and acquisitions. IMO, firing Licht would be a big risk.
I have known for years that this team was leaving wins on the table and not meeting their potential because of Todd. Closest we came to realizing the potential of this team was when Coen was here. If Coen was still here, the Bucs are 3-0. 2-1 at worst, absolutely no doubt in my mind. Tells you everything you need to know about this roster and the coaching. GMC just spelled it out for you.

David, itās the Bills. They have been to lots of playoff games and AFC championship games. More likely we won one or more superbowls with Josh Allen than with VV and Carlton Davis who was traded for chump change. I think Josh Allen could have won the same superbowl Brady did with the roster we had and Arians as coach. We also wouldnāt be in this Baker mess either. Iād like to see Josh Allen in Liam Coens offense. And by the way, the Bills havenāt won a superbowl, YET.

Since there is no Josh Allen, lol, a trade down with Jets would be ideal. The Jets might even have second or third pickāSmith and Baugh plus a couple o-linemen in second and third would be good.
Egbuka was never a number one receiver in college. Heād be much better in the slot with Smith and Hurst outside.

McKay was a moron.

He deliberately tried to corner Malcolm Glazer into hiring what amounts to. Dungy clone in Marvin Lewis, when explicitly told not to.
Also, take a long hard look at his salary and roster decisions- they weren’t that good. That’s why Blank kicked him upstairs – he needed McKay’s cred with the league but put him somewhere he couldn’t do any damage.

Iām going to explain exactly whatās wrong with the Buccaneers. First and foremost, we need a quarterback. There are too many receivers open all day, and Mayfield runs around like a chicken with its head cut off. Heās also too short to see over the line while in the pocket. We need a quarterback who is at least 6’5″ to 6’7″, like Tom Brady.
Now, letās talk about the defense. The defense has cost the Buccaneers many victories, and itās not funny. The secondary is weak, the defensive ends are underperforming, the special teams are lacking, and, last but not least, the coaching staff is not doing their jobālooking at you, Todd Bowles! He needs to be fired immediately.
To fix all of this, we should definitely bring back John Gruden.
