“Legit Puke-Level Reaction”

September 18th, 2026

It’s been a week but the memory lingers.

Joe asked Baker Mayfield this week if he tuned in for Mike Evans’ debut with the 49ers. And, if so, what was Mayfield thinking?

“I did,” Mayfield replied. “A little interesting to see him in No. 5. But Mike’s Mike, converting third down and catching fade balls in the red zone.”

Evans finished with 6 catches for 6 first downs and a touchdown in the 49ers’ win against the Rams.

Bucs legend Rondé Barber had a more visceral reaction to Evans’ first game for San Francisco, perhaps because Barber was in Australia for the game.

“There was legit puke-level reaction from me when I saw Mike come out in a 49ers uniform,” Barber said on his WFLA streaming show. “It was vintage Mike. Mike’s still got it, dude.”

Would the Bucs have won in Cincinnati if Evans were still on the Bucs? Joe can’t say that at all.

On Sunday, Evans faces the Dolphins. Perhaps he’ll do better than the 31 yards he racked up against them in December.

Will Mike Evans go into the Warrick Dunn waiting room for the ROH for slinking off to another team?

  2. McBay Says:

Mike made a mistake. Bucs have the superior organization, and the track record proves it.

  3. CosmoKramer Says:

There was legit puke-level reaction from me when I saw Baker incapable of connecting with EE on a deep ball, then never trying it again.

And watching Bowles lean on a defense incapable of making a stop.

Laughable at best. Todd sucks out loud with anything he does.

    Mike knows.

  4. BillyBucco Says:

Pretty sure Mike already had his puke level reaction hearing he would have yet another Offensive Coordinator.

  5. 813bucboi Says:

    Brock>baker

    GO BUCS!!!!

  6. Steve V Says:

Mike knows the Giants are the best team in the NFC..

  7. Marine Buc Says:

    Huh?

    I loved that game!

Can’t stand the Rams (for multiple reasons)…

I loved loved loved watching the Niners (and ME13) DOMINATE the L.A. Lambs!

ME13 made the right move – GTHO Tampa and quick.

Get ready for another decade of Tom Brady-less suffering and depression.

    I love all Buc fans!

  8. Lakeland Says:

San Francisco has a great chance of winning it all
They have Raheem Morris as DC, that was a good hire by Shanahan
Rah is an excellent Defensive Coordinator
I think they have great play callers… offensively and defensively

Mike Evans made the right decision

  9. DS Says:

    Traitor Evans

  10. Baking with Robinson Says:

Mike didn’t want to get bored with same old defensive you know what!

Loyalty goes both ways. After December’s truth be told, the organization showed no loyalty to us or players and coaches by keeping the HC! Although we are probably waiting for Tomlin ext year since Harbaugh turned us down.

  11. AquaBum Says:

No Mike would have made no difference in the 4 turnovers. We produced just fine on offense without him

  12. BradyGronkFan Says:

Bucs paid BM the third highest salary. Why? NFL.COM has him ranked as:
    Rank
    22 Rank decreased by 8

    Baker Mayfield
    TB
    Year 9

Evans didn’t want to play no more with a 22 ranked QB paid as an elite QB.
Sad news, that isn’t even the worst of it. todd Bowles, the guy who got promoted to head coach after sinking the Bucs chance for SB repeat is still head coach.

  13. purplebeard Says:

I try to understand why Evans left. I saw the look on his face when baker over threw him late in the year. I saw bowles defense suck again. If a man like Mike takes a pay cut to leave, you know there is more that us fans aren’t seeing. I wish him the best. It’s just too bad TB didn’t throw in the towel on our HC before Evans decided to leave

  14. purplebeard Says:

To be fair, the TB defense lost a few of the games last year.

  15. Buc1987 Says:

BradyGronkFan…thanks for the opinion…but no one cares.

    You’re not a Bucs fan.

  16. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“To be fair, the TB defense lost a few of the games last year.”

    Which ones?

  17. purplebeard Says:

    3-24?

  18. BuccaDawg Says:

ME13/5in no longer a Buc &I’m not a 49ers fan. Out of sight. Joe write more about the Bucs less about him please imo

  19. purplebeard Says:

Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying baker doesn’t shoulder some of the blame. But if a team get the lead and the defense chokes in the last quarter, the offense becomes desperate. And desperation leads to mistakes.

  20. Bucscoott Says:

Mike was so smart moving on did you see how SF took care of business! Buccaneers was same old slop

  21. BradyGronkFan Says:

Bucs1987, oh yeah, I’d say close to half around here care.

Bucs were run as a top notch football team from time Arians was hired to the last year he coached. Along with being gifted with about 10 years of high draft picks, they were primed to win MULTIPLE SB once Brady, Gronk, AB, and Fournet came on board. After, they Still had enough talent to make noise with Baker at a reasonable 3 years for 100 mil.

Brady always took a team discount and was a game manager for his first 3 SBs. BM played hardball and got more than he’s worth. Nothing wrong with being a game manager but BM thinks he’s elite now that he’s paid like one and will lose you games with that kind of thinking.

  22. Joe Says:

Joe write more about the Bucs less about him please imo

Joe has ZEE-row intentions about forgetting the greatest offensive player in Bucs history. Did Joe (or Bucs fans) forget Warren Sapp or John Lynch after they bolted the team? Absolutely not! To suggest Joe ignore Bucs greats is blasphemy!

Besides, if you don’t want to read a specific subject, that’s great. There are over 60,000 other stories on this site in Joe’s free archives. Just scroll down a little bit and you’ll find more stories about subjects you may find more interesting.

This is like going to an Amish buffet with 70+ items to choose from and complaining the eatery serves green beans.

  23. BradyGronkFan Says:

And yes I’m crusty that Brady didn’t at least make a 2nd appearance in the SB with Tampa and had his only losing season with Bowles with some help from Leftwich. It’s incredible that Bowles got rewarded with head coach for losing against the Rams. Then escaped the following year by having Leftwich take the fall. Wait a minute, he escaped last year too btpy having Grizzard take the fall. Lol too funny.

  24. Josh Says:

Yeah, I wouldn’t have resigned Baker or Vea yet, and I would’ve tagged Evans. He was a Bucs legend—you don’t let him walk. It literally makes me nauseous seeing him in another uniform. Or maybe it was just those short shorts he had on in practice, lmao.

For real though, f*** the 49ers. And Mike Evans he said he wanted to be a Buc for life, but then bailed when they kept Bowles and maybe Baker???? He had it worse, or at least the same, forever (every year except the ones with Brady). He said that while Baker was the QB, so yeah, to me, it’s just like the snake in Jacksonville. I understand why you did what you did, but that doesn’t mean I have to root for you anymore. I’m stuck here as a Bucs fan while you bailed on my team, so screw you for even getting to bail, lmao…

  25. VancouverBuc Says:

BradyGronkFan 💯. You don’t have to be Cheerleader to be a Fan…call it the way you see it. Bowels blows, the proof is on the tape.

  26. VancouverBuc Says:

‘This is like going to an Amish buffet with 70+ items to choose from and complaining the eatery serves green beans.’ 😂😂😂💯

  27. Obvious Says:

Anyone that doesn’t realize that Mike made the correct decision has drank way too much kool aid.

Even with that old roster and in that division they still have a better chance at a ring than us.

  28. RV Guy Says:

    Mike who?

  29. Tony1775 Says:

Mike puked after 3rd & 28 last year. He knew Bowles wasn’t going to get him another championship and he don’t have much more time for one.

  30. magoobee Says:

Unless Evans was going to play QB, he was not going to alter the outcome of the week 1 game for the Bucs.

  31. Win in the Trenches Says:

they didnt have mike run a deep ball….. at all ??

  32. DBS Says:

Yes I for one forgot Sapp and Lynch when they left for other teams. I didn’t have a divorced husband or wife breakdown and couldn’t get over the fact they were a couple the greatest Bucs in history. It’s a business. People make decisions to change employers all the time. I Am not sorry I didn’t cry over them everyday after they changed teams.

  33. Simple T Says:

You guys upset cause your favorite stripper is giving lap dances at another club now.

  34. Kenton Smith Says:

WBL. Was your question for everyone? If so,
    1) our first loss- Philly. Jalen Hurts was 17-18 in the first half, we were down 24-3 at half although special teams gave up 7.
    2) Patriots scored 28 on 4 defensive breakdowns of over 60 yards each- first time in NFL in 20 years any team had that many breakout TDS.
    3) Bills- Josh Allen had 3 rushing and 3 throwing touchdowns. 6 total.
4)Rams- our defense was the worst they’d ever been
    5)Falcons- remember 3rd and 28?
    6) Our defense was last! in the NFL in the red zone!
    7) our defense was last in the weak NFC south division in points allowed
    8) our team had the lead in the 4th quarter 11 times last year and the defense couldn’t hold that lead 3 times

    Really, WBL. Move on.

  35. Beeej Says:

Did Mike move 3000 miles to be a slot receiver?

  36. Woodman Says:

Josh let’s see how the season plays out for Mike everyone is all giddy now but I am willing to bet he miss a few games just like he always does and will not have great stats we shall see.
