I like the decision but would like the Glazers to explain why it took so long. He’s missed several weeks of conditioning and practice with new defensive team members.
He got $24M a year deal, which is slightly under market value for him – certainly undermarket for next year as the cap continues to endlessly rise each year. Only issue for me is that the Bucs didn’t tack another year onto it. Anywho, Vita gets a raise this year, the Bucs get a bit of a discount for next year. Sounds like a win-win.
If it costs them the ability/cap flexibility to resign Mauch, McLaughlin, Mayfield and Diaby – any of them? No. I strongly suspect Diaby will blow up with Bain taking some of the focus away and if he does, he’s gonna be expensive.
Don’t downplay the importance of Chase McLaughlin. Anyone who’s been around here any length of time knows that good kickers are very hard to come by.
How bad did the OL drop off when Cappa moved on, Logan Hall took out Jensen (the only impact play he ever made as a Buc) and Marpet suddenly retired? OL continuity is key.
An aging NT is not worth sacrificing the ability to resign any of them.
I scratch my head and laugh when I see an opinion poll with people voting “not sure” or “don’t know”. Why bother with responding to a poll if you don’t have an opinion one way or the other?

Well keep in mind all the salary cap trickery, with void years, using guarantees, signing bonuses, etc. You can pretty much make just about any contract work for a year or two – and kick the ball down the road if needed.
I don’t know if Vita got any sort of no-trade clause in his deal – but if the Bucs could still trade him, having that extra year makes him a lot more valuable, should the Bucs want to make a move at the trade deadline. But, doing my game by game predictions earlier this offseason, I actually think the Bucs get off to a hot start and probably won’t be selling.
In any case, they can make a lot of cap room by moving restructuring with Wirfs and Winfield, perhaps Godwin depending on how he does this year. There’s ways to make it work if everything goes well.

Yes, because it’s fair to all sides.

Who votes “no” to a Vea return?! I mean seriously!
What say you? What’s your legitimate rationale? I’m curious.

I like the extension for another year but not the raise for this year. A 6 million dollar cornerback would have been better.

He’s a Bucs legend.
He has faced double teams since his rookie year.
He’s one of most unique freaks in NFL history.
I am very happy we have him for next year as well.
He’s earned it man!
Go Bucs!

You don’t need great corners when the d-line is collapsing the pocket on the regular. No brainer.

Should help them get to the typical +/-8 win season again.

Thanks Joe’s. Yes! He’s worth at least this year and next. 100%. Zero doubt.

You keep your best, and you get rid of your worst. Bully for vv.
Sirenarara to Dean. Smart moves.
