Teddy Bridgewater Tells Lions He’s Out

August 9th, 2026

Ex-Buc bails.

[UPDATE] The Bucs and Lions have had a strange relationship the past few years.

Several Bucs players have left Tampa for Detroit, including Carlton Davis, Christian Izien and Teddy Bridgewater. And the Bucs jumped to sign former Lions standouts Alex Anzalone and Al-Quadin Muhammad this offseason.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell and Todd Bowles are friends and former teammates. Longtime Bucs defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers jumped pirate ship a little over year ago and landed where? In Detroit.

Heck, Bowles even refused to call timeout at Detroit in a one-score Bucs playoff loss two years ago with a chance to get the ball back. (Where the hell was the answer to that mystery in the Raise the Flags: 50 Years of Bucs Football documentary on Amazon?)

Today, the Lions announced Bridgwater, their backup QB, was stepping away from the team. “His biggest worry was letting us down,” Campbell said, via ProFootballTalk.com. “That’s the type of guy he is. And he’s not.”

The Bucs couldn’t wait to move on from Bridgewater after last season. Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine, Bowles didn’t hesitate to say the Bucs would be in the market for a new backup.

As for the Lions, well, Joe expects Kyle Trask to be heading there for a tryout in a matter of hours.

(Whoops, too late. Trask signed with the Stinking Panthers today.)

Trask has just signed with the Panthers

  2. RBUC Says:

Joe you do know Trask just signed with Dave Canales Panthers right?????😂🏈

  3. Trey Says:

Bridgewater was so out of it and disengaged. Last year when he subbed in for Baker in that one game, that was some of the most uninspiring and pathetic QB play I’ve ever seen.

  4. Joe Bob Pigskin Says:

    Yep, it was horrible.

  5. MikeBuc Says:

lolol…..One of the best burns ever written on Joe Bucs

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Haynes King is injured, so the Panthers signed Trask? Cool. I’m glad he’s made a team. He just better not make us regret letting him go…

  7. Stpetematt Says:

    Don’t worry- he won’t.

  8. CosmoKramer Says:

Don’t be shocked if Licht signs Bilgewater to a deal.

  9. Hodad Says:

Hospital ball teddy checked out of the NFL while he was with us.

  10. 80sBucsfan Says:

He was the ON LY reason Mayfield had to play injured because Jason Licht was NEGLIGENT in his job. But Teddy was Bowles pick? BS, if Jason has no balls to tell his coach that someone can’t play in the NFL then Jason Licht is worthless. He is only bc of Brady. 93-104 – 61-86 without Brady.

Jason Licht is a fraud. Time to say good-bye Jason.

  11. Lunchmeat Says:

King is hurt? I was wondering why they brought back Trask.

  12. Marine Buc Says:

Some folks laughed at me when I stated – Browning > T. Bridgewater…

I never understood the leagues “infatuation” with this dude.

We was 33-32 as a starting QB.

    OMG – what a “genius”!!!

Plus – he only could stay healthy for one season out of 11.

    Yeeesh.

  13. Winny Testaverde Says:

Both the Lions ( twice ? ) and Bucs twisted Tracy Chapman’s dreads/arm to play for them when his heart clearly wasn’t in it. Backup QB can be a glorious role…until called into action against a dominating defense I suppose.

  14. Winny Testaverde Says:

Haynes King just might be legit. He was excellent at Georgia Tech..read option with good size and arm strength…became quite a thrower of the football as well.

  15. Beeej Says:

He prolly gave up because he couldn’t fit that helmet on over his hair

  16. ElioT Says:

    Who cares?

    He’s a doo-doo dread wearing never-was.

  17. Obvious One Says:

    Tracy Chapman said what?

She driving her fast car away from being exposed as an absolutely useless little tool.

    That’s what.

I guess I’m not surprised that another team took a look since the judgement of the Ridiculous current head coach that has already been determined BY ALL that the head fool of that clown show has serious issues concerning his judgement and placement skills of professional football players. Certainly doesn’t know how to use them to their highest potentials. So a CLOSE examination is required.

It seems as if Toad’s reading the directions on “HOW TO” use talent .. Backwards! And upside down! So further investigation is required to see just how severely Toad Bowl has ruined each and Everyone of the fleeing 3/4 year players. So far, Not Even ONE rookie that bozo has ruined, has qualified to play for ANY Other professional team since the disheartening malpractices Toad has committed on and to them and their families, and are now so confused that they no longer qualify as a ball player.

He should likely be sued by any and all who’s doorsteps have been darkened by the soul reason SO MANY professionals have literally QUIT! As well as the FACT that “ALL TEAM LEADERS” have left the tampa bay area and clearly the Buccaneers in MASSIVE NUMBERS with “Unkind” intentions to even look back!

Dark Days in the Den of Depression indeed..

  18. Tony Says:

Well since the Bucs & Lions have had a relationship the last couple of years maybe we could trade for Hutchinson & McNeill & send Vita over there then. Even if it means throwing a pick in there. I wouldn’t want to trade Vita but hey if he doesn’t want to be with them anymore then why drag the team down also. That stupid Zyon & Godwin contract . That would be nice if they’d send Hutchinson but that won’t happen.

  19. firethecannons Says:

you would think the Lions were not as stupid as the Bucs. Yet they drafted this washed up QB even after he performed poorly in 2025. What was that for–nobody else anywhere that was better?. weak!

  20. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Kyle Trask signed with a NFL team? I’m happy that geniuses in The Occult of Trask can still have hope….and make themselves look stupid on a different team’s website.

  21. View from 132 Says:

The NFL has a severe QB quality problem. If it gets any worse, they’ll need to have less teams. Even at QB3, talking about Trask and Leftover Sandwich is absurd.

  22. exBrowns02 Says:

Really thought that Kyle was done. Happy to see him get one more opportunity. Wish him luck.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

Did the Lions actually watch any tape from last year before signing Bridgewater, or was it some sort of money laundering scheme? It has to be one of the two, because there’s no way they saw the film from last year and signed Bridgewater thinking he could still play in the NFL, or XFL or even in high school.
