Happy 18th Birthday JoeBucsFan.com

August 7th, 2026

Eighteen years ago today, Joe published the first page of this website and never turned back. More than 65,000 Bucs-related posts have followed, the results of obsessing 24/7 about all things Buccaneers.

It all started with a laptop and a dream.

In 2008, Joe was painfully bored by the stale Bucs media in the Tampa Bay area. Coverage was stuck in the 1990s. Boring!!!!

But online coverage of some professional sports teams was fun, you know, like sports are supposed to be. So Joe hatched a plan to cover the Bucs in a way that would entertain and interest Joe, something very different.

A defunct NBA site called JoeNetsFan.com was the inspiration for the name and the spirit, but Joe wanted to bring a different angle, the whole third-person “Joe” thing.

Joe pounded keyboards for months writing passionately here for almost nobody — and no money. Traffic grew steadily while Joe endured endless personal attacks, the result of rattling the cages of Bucs fans, the Bucs franchise, and Joe’s media brethren.

Hell, Joe had “haters” before anyone used the term “haters.” But Joe pressed on out of love for the Bucs.

Joe was having fun and fans were buying into Joe’s unique brand of journalism that continues to be like no other. (And if you don’t think opinion writing is journalism, well, it has been since the 1800s.) The Day 1 approach here has not changed; Joe writes about Bucs stuff that interests Joe. That’s it.

If you don’t like it, then don’t read it. Joe doesn’t tell others how to express their Bucs passion and Joe expects the same courtesy.

Thankfully, Bucs fans came in droves and money landed in Joe’s pocket. JoeBucsFan.com traffic exploded and the site is now the only destination for legions of Bucs fans. Anyone researching website traffic will conclude quickly that JoeBucsFan.com is the dominant Bucs media force in the Tampa Bay market and has been for many years.

The army of beloved Ira Kaufman Podcast listeners are in a special category all their own. Joe added Ira to JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters in July of 2016. Smart move. It’s hard to believe Joe has put hundreds of thousands of dollars in the pockets of Sage Kaufman. What a country!

Joe appreciates the many thousands of devoted daily readers here, along with the many thousands of occasional readers. And Joe has a special thank you to the statistically insignificant percentage of fans (and haters) that never type a comment. You all have a place in Joe’s heart.

A documentary could be made about the bizarre Bucs interactions Joe has experienced and can’t type on these pages without breaking confidences — or ending up with a broken bone.

Joe also wants to thank the smart local business owners who support JoeBucsFan.com year-round. Unlike Team Glazer and other local media outlets, Joe does not price gouge. Joe’s advertisers are true partners and true friends. An extra hat tip goes to Dolman Law Group, which is coming up on 16 years supporting Joe. They are a special firm.

As always, Joe’s birthday wish is for winning football to return in Tampa. It’s great for Joe’s mental health, as well as Joe’s wallet and Joe’s motivation to grind on these pages. Nobody likes a losing team — or a franchise that tolerates losing. You hear that, Team Glazer?

Eighteen years is a long time. It’s a safe bet another 18 years will not happen. Heck, in March, Joe might move to San Francisco and take a pay cut. #sarcasm

Fans should count on Joe making a content change or two over the next year. Much has been discussed and explored in recent years. And don’t freak out if you hear word of Joe exploring selling the website. That is not Joe pulling a Vita Vea or a Mike Evans. Joe’s had unique opportunities previously, and this could be the year.

A final hearty thank you from JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters to all the Bucs fans who have allowed Joe to realize this dream — even the perennially bitter media types and sour Bucs employees.

As a birthday treat, Joe will get back to work serving Bucs fans 24/7. It’s a privilege.

Thanks For All Your Time, & Effort, Joe. I think I’ve been around here since about 2011, or 2012. I thought I was was “banned” one-time (or something), so I changed my username to “Booger,” just tryin to be an ace-so LoL. Turned-out I really wasn’t, and it was just some type of glitch. But, I kept the name for awhile, since I was already dug-in (might’ve been on Coen). I don’t understand WHY I’m being “permanently moderated” NOW, for over the past MONTH. For the ‘first-time’ EVER. Yeah, I have encountered ‘short-term’ random moderation before, at times, but NEVER THIS. It makes NO SENSE. It has to be for saying that Ira and T-Krass (on WDAE one day), acted as if they’d never been around an NFL Practice Field before, the way they were drooling all over HURST… In Underwear, and NO PADS. LoL. Cause, other than that, I don’t know what the hell else it could possibly be!?

  3. TBBucFan Says:

Happy freaking birthday from someone who has been a loyal reader from nearly day one. Your site is entertaining, educational, and yes, sometimes exasperating. Exactly what it should be. Great, great job, guys. Long may you reign as the best Buc fan site by far.

  4. Obvious One Says:

    Happy Birthday Joe.

I for one have enjoyed your site for many years. And I LOVE the platform you’ve given us. It’s rare and “Obviously Popular”. You’ve “EARN” every single fan of your site, one day at a time. You, for YEARS now, have been THE ONLY SOURCE for Buccaneer news and interest in Especially one area that stands out like the statue of Liberty.. And that is during the “Entire Off Season”! It seems that during the dark days of the ” cliff hanging, in between seasons “,… you’re THE ONLY SITE thats “open for business”. And I promise you that Thousands of us SURE APPRECIATE THAT! In fact, I visit your site Multiple Times Every Day For Those MANY YEARS.. Multiple Times PER DAY…

Thank you SO MUCH for your drive to be “Simply The Best”!

I SURE HOPE that you reconsider selling her. It just Won’t Be the same place without you… Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Joe, I have been with you for a majority of that time. Thanks to your weekly appearances with the Big Dog while streaming WDAE from Dolphin country. You helped keep my Bucs passion alive and well informed after moving down here 22 years ago. I have enjoyed the pod cast thing with you and Ira since the beginning, miss the MCOJ and the boys up north, even the one that shall not be named.
Keep up the good work….as long as it lasts I guess.

  13. Fred McNeil Says:

It’s hard to remember when I started reading here. Rah was the coach. Freeman was the QB Im guessing 2010. I went by something akin to Orlando BUCS fan, but a lot of other people came and went with similar names so I just used my own after a few years. I remember How used to jump into the conversation a lot more back in the old days. I’m pretty sure one of my first posts was “I’m glad I found this site”.

  14. D-Rome Says:

Congratulations. I say this every year, but I’ve been reading since around December of your inaugural year. I can’t believe how much time has passed.

  15. Sean G Says:

Happy Birthday Joe, I have really enjoyed your site since nearly the beginning. I started reading your site as a LT and now I’m about to retire from the Army and I am happy for you , that you might have found your version of retirement by selling the site. I hope it allows you to enjoy the benefits that you have worked so hard for and that I hope you still continue to share your love of the Bucs when you want to.

  16. Scubog Says:

I begin every morning with my cup of coffee and a “Cup of Joe”. Not sure which causes an immediate urge to head to the bathroom. In any event, I really enjoy reading what other sources Joe has collected have to say about our Bucs. Happy 18th! Toast to you.

  17. Vanessa Anne Says:

    Joe, congratulations and happy birthday.

After all: sports is about community.

Get some women writers,,,,,if you don’t have a few already!

Happy Bucday Joe and thanks for all that you guys and Ira do!

I would be way less informed and a lesser fan without your site. Can’t imagine trying to rely on the folks across the Bay or, god forbid, BSPN for my Bucs News and info.

    Go Bucs!

  48. Bucs And Them Says:

Nothin but much thanks Joes! I don’t comment all that often but, I’m always in the bleachers. Life without Joe Bucs Fan is a life I don’t want to contemplate.

  51. RVATom Says:

  53. Mr. Barf Says:

Happy 18th Joe. Been enjoying your site for a few years. Keep trollin & rollin.

  54. Joe Says:

Thanks guys for the kind comments and the very thoughful words, sincerly.

Without Bucs fans just like you, this site simply would not exist. When Joe launched this site almost two decades ago this very day, Joe *thought* it would work but there was no guarantee.

You, and so many fans like you, made it happen. Without readers, there’s no advertising. Without advertising, there’s no revenue. A man has to live! 🙂

Thanks again for all the touching thoughts.

  55. MelvinJunior Says:

I have said this before, on multiple occasions, but JBF is the online version of the Paul Finebaum Show. I’ve been thinking lately, that it would be really cool, if JBF’s weekend shows on WDAE could be in that type of format… It’s really AMAZING what PAWL has done with that show, and how it all has come about. It could be done locally, but it would have to take a dedicated group effort, and then grow and evolve throughout time. That’s what makes PAWL’s show so wild tho… Just the ‘RAWNESS’ of it ALL. The caller rivalries, and that everyone is held to ACCOUNT. You can’t get by with just spewing a bunch of empty meaningless BS remarks there. NOT on THAT SHOW. Or, you will hear about it 💯 either from PAWL himself, (&/or) other callers. Your called-out QUICK. If/when you make a BAD CALL, you’re gonna be called-out. You’re not getting by with straight up NONSENSE. They’re gonna be ONya. And that’s why I believe JBF is very VERY similar, in that way!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, & Thanks Again, Joe.

  56. MelvinJunior Says:

I just thought it would be really cool to have the JBF online followers to use their actual JBF username when they called into to the WDAE Radio Show, or Podcast… Like, “Defense Rules” or “Rod Munch” is up next…

  57. GP Says:

First feed I check every morning and most read by far over all other sites

  58. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

    Appreciate you Joes!

  59. Krutch Says:

    Please don’t sell. I repeat – please don’t sell.

I won’t say I’ve been with the Joes from the beginning, but I found the page within the first 3 years. I check it daily. The tone has always been great – as if I had a good buddy who knows football AND he has access to the team.

If you sell to a lesser owner, you know the product quality will not be maintained. A new owner pays high, then immediately wants to see a return. Ads will be everywhere and elbow-rubbing bias will start to creep in.

But this is America, this is your business, and you don’t “owe” us anything. Honestly, we owe you. I’m proud of the business you have been able to build, based on a passion and an unproven idea 18 years ago. Happiest of birthdays JoeBucsFan! If I only have you for a short time longer, I’ll always feel that your site was groundbreaking. Honestly, this site was the first one I saw with longform highlights of a practice – not just stupid 140 character posts from the legacy media.

    Go Bucs!

    From Sao Paulo, Brazil
    Go Bucs

  62. Rod Munch Says:

For my 18th birthday, I went to Mons. In a time before the information superhighway was a thing, WOW, was my response to walking into the place. And boy did the ladies love the baby face me walking in with $10 in my pocket after paying the door fee, which I didn’t know was a thing. I had one very nice young Asian lady sit with me for 3 whole songs, although she really wasn’t needed after the first one.

  63. Buc1987 Says:

    Wow! 18 huh.

    Happy Birthday JBF!

  64. Brad Says:

Joe, I love this site! Thank you for the years of dedication. Keep the articles flowing! Also, I do enjoy the morning cup of Joe, so whatever content changes you make, please keep that daily post!

  65. Matthew Horsfall Says:

    Congrats and happy birthday Joe!
I’m from the north of England and always struggled to find enough NFL/ Bucs content 20 something years ago when I was a young teenager obsessed with the game thanks to Madden through Derrick Brooks and John Lynch. Until I found your website which I still check at least 5 times a day and listen to the podcast.
This website is the reason I’m still and will be a Bucs fan for life.
Thanks and here’s to you guys.

Ps not posted in a while, probably since the times of arguing with the moaner Thomas 2.2 about drafting Mark Barron!
