Bucs Training Camp 2026 Day 7 Practice Notes
August 6th, 2026Another fun practice this morning as the Bucs continue to work their way to their first worthless preseason game in New Jersey a week from tomorrow.
As usual, special guests were in attendance at One Buc Palace. Most notable was Chucky. The man who guided the Bucs to the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship and the winningest coach in Bucs history stopped by. He will call the Bucs’ game against the Chiefs on Aug. 22.
Additionally, Lavonte David returned. No, not as a player, but an alumnus. He dapped up many of his former teammates at various times when they came off the field during practice.
In general, the Bucs offense did not appear sharp this morning. This, despite Chris Godwin and Emeka Egbuka returning to the field.
* Bucky Irving starts with a run to the left, a run to the right and a run up the middle. It was pretty clear from the second play that tackling was optional for defensive backs. Joe saw a defensive back pull up on Bucky rather than make contact. Just gave up. So the edict of not bringing guys to the ground if it is avoidable apparently was heeded.
* Strong play by Antoine Winfield. Baker Mayfield aims for Kenny Gainwell deep down the left sideline and Winfield was on his like stink on sh!t. Winfield reached out and batted the ball away, preventing Gainwell from making an over-the-shoulder catch. Strong.
* On second thought, Joe should give credit to the defense. Perhaps that is why the offense played sluggishly. Several times quarterbacks were back in the pocket for a long time looking for open receivers, or taking off, scrambling or just simply dirting the ball. Guess the physical play of the defense Tuesday night carried over to today.
* Sean Tucker gets stuffed on a run up the middle.
* Jake Browning faked a handoff to Tucker and hits a diving Garrett Greene on a crossing pattern from the right.
* Tucker is stuffed on a run up the middle by Javin Wright.
* Greene catches another pass to the right from Browning. Or did he? Chris Braswell was bearing down on Browning. Bucs edge rushers, specifically backups, were living in the backfield this morning.
* Joe is pretty confident he has typed Braswell’s name more in seven practices of 2026 training camp than he has in the two previous seasons Braswell has been on the roster. Maybe Licht’s prediction of Braswell shocking people was a year too soon? Joe has to temper this with the fact Braswell is showing up against second- and third-team players but at least he is showing up. Before, unless you saw Braswell on the sidelines, you didn’t know he was on the team.
* Pretty pass from Mayfield to Egbuka to the right for about 15 yards.
* Bucky with a tough run wide to the right. The linebackers are at least tackling.
* Tucker takes a pitch to the right but doesn’t get a whole lot. Deshawn McKnight (Arizona) and Mohamed Kamara were involved in the stop.
* Browning is chased out of the pocket to the right and finds Dennis Houston down the right seam for a medium gain. Maybe 10-12 yards.
* Browning looked like he was trying to throw a screen but it was well-covered so he just side-arms the ball into the dirt.
* PICK! Head-butting linebacker John Bullock read a play like Joe’s blog, jumped a pass intended for Cade Otton and easily housed the ball. Pick-six.
* Chris Godwin is wide ass open over the middle and Mayfield easily hits him.
* Kameron Johnson with an excellent catch on a crossing pattern from right to left. Mayfield held onto the ball long enough for Johnson to find an open spot. He caught the ball near the left sideline and, as he was running out of bounds, somehow managed to get both feet in. Happened right in front of Joe. However…
* Winfield was breathing down Mayfield’s neck on a blitz from the right as Rueben Bain, playing right outside linebacker, drew some traffic with him as he veered to the outside, opening up a lane for Winfield to blitz through.
* Browning connects with Johnson. However, David Walker was right on top of Browning. So that’s at least a “sack” in each of the Bucs’ seven practices in 2026 training camp for the hyped second-year man from Central Arkansas.
Red zone
* Godwin runs a slant from the left (lousy Lovie Smith’s kryptonite) and Mayfield throws behind Godwin. He reached back to try to haul the pass in but couldn’t.
* Gainwell runs left for nothing.
* Mayfield throws to Bucky to the right and he’s met immediately by Bain. Pass broken up.
* Mayfield looks and looks and looks and looks (where is the pass rush?) and hits Otton in the far right corner of the end zone for six.
* Gainwell gets a pass from Mayfield to the left and maybe gets a yard.
* Tucker catches a pass over the middle and is immediately stopped by Christian Rozeboom.
* Browning rolls right and hooks up with Dennis Houston in the right corner of the end zone.
* Tucker tries to run up the middle and is absolutely swallowed up by Elijah Simmons.
* Houston has a pass from Browning bounce off his hands and then bounces off the hands of Josh Hayes.
* Browning targets Dean Patterson over the middle in the end zone and Rashad Wisdom nearly had a pick.
* Kadarius Calloway (New Mexico State) muscles his way for two yards.
* Mayfield to Godwin to the right.
* Bucky runs left for nothing.
* Gainwell runs to the right and gets good yardage despite Ted Hurst fully whiffing on a block at the line.
* Tucker catches a pass from Robinson but it may have been a “sack.” Travis Shaw (Texas) had a clean shot on Robinson but pulled up.
* Josh Williams gets a couple of tough yards up the middle.
* Mayfield targets Hurst down the left sideline and Ayden Garnes breaks up the pass.
* Joe just noticed there are no referees today.
* Mayfield tries for Otton down the left sideline and it was too short.
* Mayfield is rushed out of the pocket by Elijah Roberts and Walker.
* Mayfield throws a screen pass to Bucky and it appeared Braswell may have had a shot at Mayfield if you could hit the quarterback.
* Walker looked like he may have had a “sack” on Jalon Daniels but it also looked like Walker got tackled by an offensive lineman.
Two-minute drill
* Gainwell dances but doesn’t get much.
* Mayfield rolls right and there is no one home.
* Man, for a two-minute drill, the offense is sure lethargic. How about some energy? Some effort or purpose?
* Mayfield throws to Payne Durham to the left side and it is off his hands. Durham’s country singer-fiancée wouldn’t like that.
* Tucker runs up the middle.
* It’s in the shoes! Devin Culp wore fluorescent green shoes today and Joe is guessing that’s an old L.C. Greenwood trick where he would wear gold shoes to get noticed. Well, Culp was noticed. Browning hit a wide ass open Culp down the right seam. Culp turned inside, headed for the left sideline and scored.
* Bucky catches a pass from Mayfield, turns upfield along the left sideline for a big gain. The crowd on She Is Football Day serenaded Bucky with chants of “BUH-kee… BUH-kee… BUH-kee!”
* Hurst is lined up to the left and on a slant, Mayfield hits him right in the hands and Hurst drops it. Hurst, until today, had been Godwin-like consistent. Today is easily his worst day of training camp. It happens.
* Mayfield pumps, pumps and takes off up the middle.
* Otton catches a pass over the middle from Mayfield. Well, until he got blasted by Josiah Trotter. And then, Trotter let the offense know about it. Since there were no referees, Bucs defenders began wildly waving incomplete.
* Eric Rivers (Georgia Tech) catches a pass over the middle from Browning.
* Second team offense begins picking things up, realizing they are in a two-minute drill and have to act with some urgency. Patterson catches a pass from Browning up the right sideline for about 20. But Joe is pretty sure Patterson only got one foot inbounds. Good effort, though, as Patterson was sprawling as he reached out for the ball.
* Browning overthrows Bauer Sharp down the right seam. Good thing, as Sharp was double-covered. Keionte Scott had good coverage.
* Braswell would have had a sack on Browning as Braswell pulled up when he got two steps away from Browning. Braswell was coming in from the right.
* Browning rolls right and Braswell just grabs him.
* Greene isn’t able to haul in a low pass from Browning as it is off. his hands.

2nd & 3rd teamers or not….this is Braswell progress
I like when players are progressing. Would be nice if we’ve really improved the edge/OLB not just by the 2026 additions, but also by the progression of those already here from before as well!

Another training camp day without any major injuries. Stay healthy!

“Browning connects with Johnson. However, David Walker was right on top of Browning. So that’s at least a “sack” in each of the Bucs’ seven practices in 2026 training camp for the hyped second-year man from Central Arkansas.”
1-A-Day like the multivitamin
“Mayfield looks and looks and looks and looks (where is the pass rush?) and hits Otton in the far right corner of the end zone for six.”
Probably being told to ease up in this session to let the offense get some work in
“Robinson targets Dean Patterson over the middle in the end zone and Rashad Wisdom nearly had a pick.”
Who’s Robinson Joe, they got A’shawn running QB5?
“* Otton catches a pass over the middle from Mayfield. Well, until he got blasted by Josiah Trotter.”
Coverage skills, lol
Thanks for the notes Joe.

Who is the Robinson you are referring to throwing passes and handing the ball off?
August 6th, 2026 at 1:29 pm
glazers saving money by not paying for refs
August 6th, 2026 at 1:42 pm
My question, when Baker took off up the middle. did he slide or did he take on the defender by using his left shoulder and then be injured for the rest of the season.
August 6th, 2026 at 1:45 pm
If the Robinson QB is Zac Robinson, at least he knows the play.
August 6th, 2026 at 2:18 pm
Chris Braswell got on the field?
Chris Braswell got near a quarterback?!

BuccoMarty has one question to ask Joe…
Has David Walker completed a padded practice? X-D
August 6th, 2026 at 2:33 pm
practiced seemed like it lacked energy and urgency
GO BUCS!!!!

Boybuc ,give it a rest GD!

Thanks for the notes Joe!
I went to practice so here are a couple of notes.
The defense looked very good today, especially in coverage. The day off seemed to help the defense.
” Mayfield looks and looks and looks and looks (where is the pass rush?) and hits Otton in the far right corner of the end zone for six.” Zyon was trailing Otton by four yards. Zyon also dropped an easy pick in the end zone.
“Mayfield targets Hurst down the left sideline and Ayden Garnes breaks up the pass.” Ayden Garnes and Damarian Williams are making some plays at Dean’s former spot. Didn’t see Morrison on the field. When Parrish is there, the QB’s are staying away from him!
DeMonte Capehart at DT, totally blew up a run 3 yards in the backfield.
I didn’t see Billy Schrauth get many any? snaps. After practice I saw him, with a right knee bandage, doing some drills.
August 6th, 2026 at 2:47 pm
Four and counting.
August 6th, 2026 at 2:51 pm
Can’t remember if he slid or not. Do know hitting QBs is strictly verboten in practice. As in never.
August 6th, 2026 at 2:55 pm
Couple of times.

“Ayden Garnes and Damarian Williams are making some plays at Dean’s former spot. Didn’t see Morrison on the field. When Parrish is there, the QB’s are staying away from him!”

the fact that people are in her reading practice notes in the middle of the work day proves that they are losers with no job or life
August 6th, 2026 at 3:20 pm
losers in here with no job or life
August 6th, 2026 at 3:33 pm
Braswell was a developmental pick – so who knows, maybe he suddenly has leveled up. If so, if he’s merely a good backup, that would be huge considering the additional pieces they’ve added at edge.
August 6th, 2026 at 3:35 pm
It’s amazing that there’s a game tonight, and yet the Bucs are still in the ‘tackling is optional’ stage of things. We’ve come a long-long ways from Ray Perkins three-a-days.
August 6th, 2026 at 4:18 pm
Bowles better hope plays never make it to the secondary, cbs might still think tackling is optional. Don’t understand that crap at least wrap them up and stop their forward motion without talking them to the ground. Same ol crap same crap coach.
