Odd Daily Obsession For Lavonte David

May 1st, 2026

While this post is not about football, Joe wonders if retired Lavonte David is squirming eating Cap’n Crunch every morning thinking about playing with Alex Anzalone, Rueben Bain, Keionte Scott, Josiah Trotter, A’Shawn Robinson and 11-sack master Al-Quadin Muhammad this season.

If football isn’t 100 percent out of David’s system, Joe suspects the Bucs legend has thought about calling Todd Bowles and asking for a job.

And yes, David eats Cap’n Crunch every morning.

That was a revelation yesterday from Bucs edge rusher YaYa Diaby during his visit with the Up & Adams show on FanDuel TV.

Diaby was asked to share a David nugget or story that would enlighten fans about iconic No. 54. Diaby explained that the Bucs cafeteria supplied David with his daily fix of Cap’n Crunch for breakfast. In fact, per Diaby, David would eat nothing else for breakfast.

This is stunning, considering David is known for taking great care of his body. Man, Joe wonders how many servings David downs daily.

For those unaware, Cap’n Crunch is as processed and sugar-filled as it gets for a cereal. It’s certainly not part of the famed Tom Brady Effect that Bucs officials swore would permeate One Buc Palace for years to come.

Earlier this week, Joe learned, via The Rich Eisen Show, that Todd Bowles eats a Kit Kat or Nestle Crunch before every game.

LVD will still come around, rehab his knee and mentor Trotter.

    Nickerson-Brooks-David…..Trotter?

    Could the tradition continue?

    I hope so!

    Go Bucs!

  2. Colonel Angus Says:

    Love me some Capt. Crunch

  3. #1bucsfan Says:

Those are huge shoes to fill teacherman. I want that too.

  4. D-Rok Says:

Also on the Eisen show, Bowles said he ALWAYS gets the right-sided seat at front of the bus. ALWAYS. The only time he gives up that spot is when the owners are on the bus.

Bowles said he is superstitious and his bus seat and candy bars are musts for him and if he doesn’t get them, he blames his assistant if there was a loss that week.

Interesting behind-the-mind stuff of our coach.

Tom called soda poison once, but still took Pizza Huts’ money lol.

I won’t be shocked to see David at camp some time this summer, actually expecting it to be 100% honest.

  7. Lakeland Says:

Denver Broncos great WR Rod Smith
Was a UDFA from tiny Missouri Southern State
All he ate was McDonald’s, day and night
And he rarely missed a game, was consistent
He retired as the greatest WR in Denver Broncos history

I think an athlete workout routine is what really keep him in shape
You can eat healthy and not workout as much
Which is probably worse than eating unhealthy and working out a lot

  8. Orlando Kevin Says:

I hope LVD is still a part of the organization (coaching, mentoring or leadership).

  9. D-Rome Says:

Cap’n Crunch, the only cereal in the world that can make your gums bleed.

  10. Lakeland Says:

LVD has to be extra careful of Cap’n Crunch
Because diabetes runs in his family
I stay away from all sugary products

  11. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Let’s not use a roster spot for a 37 year old LB. Maybe they can add him to the staff as an assistant like Todd’s son. Younger and faster not older and slower. That’s the reality in the NFL.

  12. 808Bucsfan Says:

Hey LVD, put a couple ice cubes in that bowl of cereal, it’ll be the best bowl of Captain Crunch you will ever have !! Hey that goes for every Buc fan out there, whatever cereal you eat, add couple ice cubes. Next level stuff .

  13. Hodad Says:

He’ll be looking like Bowles in no time.

  14. D-Rok Says:

    @D-Rome,

LOL! Don’t forget the roof of the mouth, too! Used to love that cereal as a kid (back when they didn’t have a bunch of fake stuff in it) but haven’t eaten it in 30+ years.

  15. Hopes on 2027 Says:

Tom Brady’s diet made everybody on the team weak.

Dude definitely doesn’t having a problem blaming others or throwing Asst coaches under the bus… that’s been proven lol.

That’s not the way it works, bro. That mentor thing is one of the most overblown things in sports…. it’s not real. How did David mentoring Devin White turn out? How about Sirvocea Dennis? It didn’t…because it’s not real.

    —————–

Yes, his diet wasn’t great…not bad enough to call trash but definitely not scientifically proven to be anything other than one way to have sustenance.

  19. Beeej Says:

    Crunchberries or gtfo

  20. MadMax Says:

Capn crunch with the peanut butter balls were my fave as a kid in the 70’s/80’s

  21. 3.28.Evans Says:

Coach must really pack away the candy bars like a champion. Too bad he doesn’t coach that way.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

Cinnamon Toast Crunch is the breakfast of champions.

  23. Saskbucs Says:

Pretty embarrassing if you ask me.

That is not how a high end athlete should be fuelling himself.

  24. Ballwasher61 Says:

The guy is young with a high metabolic rate, that bowl {or2} of CC isn’t gonna hurt him. Later maybe

  25. pepsi Says:

for a 220lb+ dude who’s weightlifting and running around practicing in NFL – a bowl of CC cereal in the morning is not going to do a damn thing negative to his body. might as well be water with some sugar.

  26. Buc1987 Says:

Cap n Crunch Berries used to be my favorite as a kid.

  27. Steve V. Says: Says:

    Calis Campbell 39 yrs old
7 sacks 46 takles 12 for loses and over 30 pressures, Hes a Tony the tiger guy

  28. Show Me Your TDs Says:

D-Rome, Apple Jack’s are worse. It’s like eating a bowl full of razor blades.

  29. adam from ny Says:

yes get the old man back in the building for one last season of fun and frolic…

finally he would no longer be surrounded by a group of deadbeat scrubberoonies…

    yep i just said that…deadbeat scrubberoonies…

it got so bad that even good players like AWJ were taking it light last year…if guys take it light this year they are gonna stand out as a glaring slacker…just watch…

also i say roseboom is being slept on…if lavonte stays home and keeps sipping ice tea, i see roseboom opening the season at starting ilb with anzalone…ease the young trotter kid in…let roseboom lay the boom early on, and get unseated with time

  30. Buddy777 Says:

Has anyone seen the price of cereal lately? 8 to 9 bucks!

  31. Vanessa Anne Says:

    Cap’n Crunch rules! 🙂

  32. Gipper Says:

Only thing I am sure about with LVD is he will not be doing commentary on football telecasts. Great if he ends up coaching linebacker group. His playing days are over which was painfully obvious last year. All retirees, football or otherwise, should have an idea about what to do when fully retired. Those that don’t flounder.

  33. DK Says:

lol we know Todd eating more then 1 before the game

  34. orlbucfan Says:

I hope this is accurate and (better be) HOF LB LVD is retired. Same with HOF Mike Evans. I skip football after the Draft and then check back in August.
