Chiefs Seem Far Less Likely Suitor For Mike Evans

“The Chiefs suck, Mike.”
The Chiefs traded one of their best players today and didn’t get a player in return.
Kansas City’s 2022 first-round draft pick, cornerback Trent McDuffie, was dealt to the Rams for multiple draft picks, including a first-round draft pick this year, per various reports. McDuffie was an All-Pro in 2023 and a second-team All-Pro in 2024.
That move doesn’t make the six-win Chiefs a better team. In fact, it screams “rebuild” or “re-tool.”
Joe brings this up because some Bucs fans have suspected pending free agent Mike Evans is interested in the 2026 Chiefs because he wants to chase another Super Bowl ring.
Well, Patrick Mahomes is hobbled after major knee surgery 2 1/2 months ago. Mahomes turns 31 in September and maybe he’ll be ready to play by his birthday. Now, the Chiefs, coming off a 6-11 season, have dealt a stud player for draft picks.
Does that sound like a 2026 contender?
The Chiefs finished five games behind the Chargers and eight games behind the Broncos in the AFC West.
After this trade, Joe thinks it’s highly unlikely the Chiefs are interested in making an offer for Evans when the free agency dinner bell rings on Monday at noon. And it certainly was a Chiefs move that would make Evans question whether the Chiefs are serious about winning it all this coming season.

ME13’s only demand from the Bucs FO and Owners is to bring in the talent needed to win games, so he has one more chance at a SB ring. He doesn’t need the money and he doesn’t demand more touches. ME13 just wants to win and relive the joy and excitement of the Brady years, that’s all he wants. What JL can or cannot do in FA will determine a lot, because the HC and staff is set and Bowles cannot win without talent. Nice guy that the players love, but he is a .500 coach that only does better when the roster is loaded.

Well now option #2 there’s the Snakebit Frozen town of Buffalo that will never win a Super Bowl as his next best option. Hey Mike-how do you think those Hammy’s will do in that Frozen Tundra known as Buffalo? Just sign back with the Bucs and get this charade over with.

Never thought the chiefs were a serious spot in the first place bills, 49ers, chargers, Denver, I don’t know about the eagles rumors when it happens it’s gonna be soon I doubt bucs are on the list because Evans won’t have the time to look at whatever failed attempt they do with bowles as the hc.

They’re going to replace McDuffie with either of their first 2 picks, and will likely be able to nab a top-5 WR out of this class.

Trade 1 player, for a second selection in the first round and two day 3 picks AND a 3rd rounder in 27? Yea, that sounds like a team trying to compete

There are other true contenders that’d love to have Mike Evans on their team. The Bucs are a contender for going sub .500 again, with one of the worst Head Coaches in the NFL, IMHO.

Whoa! Breaking news to me. Rams are certainly going all in and rightfully so with Staffords age.
Bucs, Pats, 49ers, Chargers… those are the 4 real options for Evans imo.

ME13 isn’t going anywhere. He likes playing football with BM6 and knows he will have a career best year in 2026 playing with Mayfield. At this point in his career legacy is more important than Super Bowls. Anyone who says or thinks otherwise is a like RodMunch, WarrenBrooksLoser, and Bee, ex high school band trombone players.

Damn, the Chiefs got a HAUL. They have to get younger FAST. I would be VERY careful with Mahomes this season anyway, and would consider ‘sitting him’ and TANKING. No one has played more ‘high-leverage’ BIG-TIME FOOTBALL than he has over the past 7-years, or so. That combined with his style of play (and injuries to other players, including the O-Line at times), has begun to take it’s toll. NO ONE at the position has been more BEATEN TF UP than what he has been. He could REALLY use the rest coming off of this injury and surgery. It’s really pushing-it having him ready for the first few weeks of the season anyway. Much less for Week-1. He’s not even going to have much of a trading camp, at all. The ‘re-injury’ risk I would say, would have to be extremely HIGH. I would strongly consider ‘sitting him’ and trying trying to extend his career. I mean, what’s the worst thing that could happen… You tank and then windup with Jeremiah Smith, or Cam Coleman!? They are DESPERATE for ‘high-end’ TALENT, especially at WR. Mahomes could really use a legit #1 Big-Time PLAYMAKER there. Even, IF Mahomes plays this year and makes it through the entire season healthy, they are STILL a probably a long shot to even make the Playoffs. I mean, you can easily make an argument that they are only the 3RD best team in THEIR DIVISION. Actually, it’s obvious and very easy to see. They’re DEFINITELY not going to any Super Bowl this season. Now, you can BOOK THAT.

Oh, and I’ve said all along that the CHIEFS are NOT an option for Mike. For all f the reasons I just mentioned above. The CHIEFS Ownership is very slick and SMART. The know what’s up with where they stand currently, in the pecking order. They have ‘the feel’ for their current situation. They are not pretending. They are not delusional. THEY fully recognize the obvious. THEY are living in REALITY.

His hometown Texans is who makes the most sense. With THAT DEFENSE, he would be THE PERFECT fit to help Stroud sustain drives on 3rd-Downs especially, and in the RedZone. It makes sense, if ‘winning’ is priority for Mike, at this point of his career. Close to home getting to be around and share with family and friends. Remember though, IF he leaves… You can thank JL for that one, again. For CHOOSING Chris over Mike.

The biggest question I’d like to know about the 2025 season is whether Baker’s performance cratered dramatically from injuries or from just sucking bad.
We’ll probly never know but if ME resigns with the Bucs that may be an indicator.
If Baker was seriously injured then Mike would know that and make his decision accordingly. If it was that Baker just plain sucked the last 9 games or so I’d look for Mike to move on.

Baker just plain didn’t have time and couldn’t step into his passes. Simple.
He will be fine this year if the offensive line is.

Just curious: has ME13 actually said anything to suggest that finding somewhere to win another SB is a top priority? I’m no elite athlete, but I’d only switch teams to win a championship if I had never made it there and was running out of time. Otherwise, it seems a lot more meaningful to take +my+ team to the SB than to glom on to some group that’s already headed there. You could have put me on the ’72 Dolphins at three years old and I would’ve gotten a ring…so what?
