Chris Godwin: Bucs “Have To Go And Compete A Little Bit Harder”

December 28th, 2025

It’s strange how Bucs players are talking about needing to play harder after a winless December.

Shouldn’t that have been ironed out weeks ago?

Joe talked to Chris Godwin in the postame locker room after today’s embarrassing loss to the tanking Dolphins.

Joe asked Godwin to answer a common fan question, “What’s gone wrong with this team?”

The Bucs have plummeted from 5-1 to 7-9.

“I don’t know,” Godwin replied. “I think for us the important thing is to just focus on what we can control at this point. Right? And we still have a chance next week and we just have to do everything we can to just pour into that game so we can have the outcome that we’re looking for.

“Execution, communication, we got strain a little bit harder. That seems to be the theme over the last however many weeks. Once we’re able to get over that hurdle. I think we’re going to like the results. … We’re in our own way. And we just have to go and compete a little bit harder, just to go ahead and get over that hill.”

Hmm, “compete” harder, “strain” harder. Where hath the Tom Brady Effect gone?

Joe also asked Godwin if the routine would change this week like players-only meetings or something to rally as a group.

“There’s nothing like that going on. You know what I mean? I don’t even know if a change of routine is something that we need,” Godwin said. “We have to execute better all across the board. We have to be accountable for our actions and go ahead and put a better product on the field.”

Hopefully status quo doesn’t turn into status woe next weekend against Carolina for the division title.

How about a QB that doesn’t single handedly lose you four games in a row, that would help.

Bruh! CG, you’ve been gone most of the season and you’ve lost your wheels too!!!!!

…….dudes cannot be saying anything if they haven’t shown anything!!!!!

  6. Mac Says:

If Atlants wins tomorrow somehow and beats Saints next week Carolina wins the division via the 3 team tiebreaker and our game is rendered meaningless correct?

  7. Youngbucs Says:

Hey Joe can we get a post about punting on 4-1 on the 50 yard line? Talk about growing a pair inspiring the team. That was so weak your playoff lives on the line smh . I knew we’d lose right then and there.

  8. Bee Says:

Baker throwing at the ground in front of Godwin for 2 weeks in a row. Maybe an accurate QB would help?

  9. HC Grover Says:

Joe they lost to the ‘tanking fish’ Wat is wrong with you? How can we take u seriously….do you work for BOWZO?

Baker is playing injured, if he was healthy, he’d make every throw ever!

  11. Greg-therealone Says:

Who cares at this point? Personally, I am just tired of it. All of it.

    @ MAC

Atlanta has already been officially eliminated from the playoffs……please stop spreading this lie with bogus information

  13. Adam Says:

I feel bad for Godwin and Evans. It’s too late in their careers to be dealing with this type of hell. I’ll never forgive Baker for destroying Evans 1000 years seasons either.

  14. BUC4L Says:

Not the same team that started the season! The coach has lost the team but all that being said excuses are for losers! So if that’s your mantra as a player then cut it!

  15. Sal Volatile Says:

Maybe the players are sick and tired of the kayfabe.

It’s not the Falcons making the playoffs – it’s them causing a three way 8-9 tie in the NFC South, that would flip the tie breaker to the Panthers. The Bucs only win the 8-9 tie breaker in a head-to-head matchup with the Panthers.

That is the correct info, go look at the ESPN Playoff Machine and run the scenarios yourself.

    ——-

That is correct, and I’m shocked it’s not common knowledge.

I mean it’s still very likely the Rams, still playing for 1st place in the NFC overall, will beat the Falcons tomorrow, but if not, the Bucs do not control their own destiny and would need the Saints to beat the Falcons.

    Bowles = Lovie
    Baker = Winston
    Grizz = Hot Garbage
    McGaughey = Worst in NFL

Winnie lose next week, the Bucs need to make changes

  19. Mac Says:

Chill our Bucs Anthem. I know Atlanta is eliminated but if they win out they have the same record as us if we were to win next week causing a 3 way tie and someone posted on here last week that if that was to occur the 3 way tie goes to Carolina. So we need Atlanta to lose tomorrow night to make sure that isn’t a possibility next week.

  20. Lakeland Says:

If Atlanta wins their next 2 games
Carolina clinch the division, doesn’t matter if they lose to the Yucs

  21. Jeff Says:

    Bowles is TRASH!

  22. Lakeland Says:

    In a 3 way tie
The first scenario is the record amongst the 3 teams

    Carolina is 3-0
    Tampa Bay is 1-2
    Atlanta is 1- 3

  23. Bojim Says:

Chris is saying what we want to hear. Good game Chris. Kill em next year.

  24. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Compete harder? There’s one more game! What have you done the first 16 games if you weren’t competing as hard as you could???

  25. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Mac

    Bruh,

No…..we need the Bucs to lose next week in order to get higher draft picks and a new coaching staff!!!!

………the Bucs will do NOTHING in the playoffs……they’re that bad and the whole NFL knows it!………I’m think about next season, not next week!

  26. Nicholas Carlson Says:

We used to have a lot of good players on defense, and now we do not, is where it has gone

  27. Mac Says:

If that’s the case BucsAnthem why did you flip out saying I was spreading misinformation when indeed I was not. I want Bowles gone but losing next week apparently isn’t changing that cause it’s already come out from several credible sources he is back next year and his seat is not hot.

  28. Hammerhead Says:

Two short qb’s that lead the NFC South lost today.

When no one knows the answer, the problem is coaching.

  30. Outrigger Says:

If Bowles is retained next year this city will have an absolute mutiny. I for one refuse to watch another Bucs game with him as head coach and it started after the loss to the Panthers. Didn’t watch the game today and won’t watch next week. It’s a waste of 3 plus hours of my Sundays.

    ——

Depends on what they do vs the Panthers – if they win, make the playoffs, then play well in the playoffs and don’t embarrass themselves, then Bowles will be back. It’s all about that Baker fully guaranteed money next year, it’s going to be hard to get a hot coaching prospect interested when they’re coming to a team where they’re stuck with a QB who is on a massive losing streak and just got his coach fired. You’re going to have to commit to another middling coach – and at that point, just wait one more year, then fully clean house if they fail yet again.

  32. infomeplease Says:

Buc’s have to compete a little bit harder??????? Come on man!!! The Bucs are playing at 50% all out effort. The other teams playing them are playing at 90% all out effort!!!!! This is a formula for a loss no matter who the opponent is!!
The other team is gang tackling!! Taking the ball away!! Moving people at the line!! The Bucs …not so much! McMillan just stood there while the guy who cut his route and intercepted the ball gets up and runs 30 or so yards up field. He didn’t even down him by touching him yet alone chase after and tackle him! And McMillan was one of the few guys actually putting an effort into this game. He just took the later half of the play off!! Like so many others on the field!!

  33. EEK Says:

that second quarter was soul crushing as a fan
I see guys not finishing tackles and missing plays and having their hearts ripped out on 3rd down nearly every drive
hard to know where to start

can’t convert on 3rd and short?

so many losses and so much hopelessness

full reboot coming in 1 week (maybe 2)

  34. Ballwasher61 Says:

Hey Rod, it’s simple: A new staff comes in and makes everyone compete at every position and then roll out the starting line up and ink them in 1,2,3. Don’t like it? Play harder, I’m the coach. Start kicking peoples A** and you’d be surprised by the results. When people fail in their regular you and me jobs we lose our jobs. You think players aren’t labeled when they leave a team and GM’s talk about their character? They’re signed as fodder to see if they’ve turned the new leaf over and if they haven’t well then see ya. The business is to win, period. And ya gotta want to win to do it, period.

  35. Bucks 'n' Bucs Says:

When the players see the same results from the ineffective plays being called (offensive and defensive,) who can blame them for quitting after the first quarter? Execution? Communication? How about communicating to the coach that his ideas just don’t work?

  36. HC Grover Says:

It should not take Canales to whup BOWZO to git rid of him. Done with this mess.

    Fan on the run.

  37. Bucks 'n' Bucs Says:

Adam….what a stupid thing to say. Evans won’t get 1000 this season because he was injured. Not due to Baker.

  38. #1bucsfan Says:

The team is lifeless. This isn’t coach fault GM or glazers like some of yall are bellyaching. Players don’t look motivated or hungry. Their sleep walking there’s no urgency.
