There Is No Excuse For Not Scheming A Way To Stop Kirk Cousins

December 12th, 2025

“You like that?”

The nicest way Joe can put this is that someone in authority with the Bucs doesn’t learn from past mistakes.

Last year Kirk “509” Cousins damn near threw for 800 yards against a Todd Bowles defense. He did throw for eight touchdowns. One of those games, Cousins threw for 509 yards to beat the Bucs in overtime.

It was galling and inexcusable. So what happened Thursday night? 509 Cousins did it again!

Cousins once again charbroiled a Todd Bowles defense, this time for 373 yards and three touchdowns.

Does anyone at One Buc Palace watch film? Or do they watch Three Stooges flicks instead? Generally, the purpose of watching football film is learn from mistakes and correct them, and try to craft a defense to make sure a guy doesn’t kill you again.

But yet again, Cousins turns into Dan Marino against a Bowles defense.

Right now if Joe would bet there will at least be changes coming to the roster and likely to the coaching staff. If Bowles survives — cut Joe a break, Joe’s last name isn’t “Glazer” — then there better damn well be a different defensive coordinator next fall.

Hopefully, said coordinator understands how to watch film, make adjustments and make sure the same guy doesn’t roast the Bucs defense for the third straight time.

This is lousy Lovie Smith kind of feces. It is both irresponsible and appalling. It is also certainly unprofessional.

Disgusting!

Can you feel it? This team is about to have a new head coach in about 2 months

    Man this sucks

Drake London was out….all you had to do was cover Pitts…..and tackle Bijion ……(tougher job)

Wow Joe, you sure are singing a different tune now then you were when you wrote “How Bad Is Kirk Cousins?”

    I tried to tell you…

    Here we go!

Every single fn time Joe does this, the QB has a career day.

Can’t wait to come back and revisit this later tonight.

  5. Rod Munch Says:

If only we had an MVP QB who we could trust to keep a 4th quarter lead without turning it over and making awful throws and taking sacks with the game on the line.

  6. Rod Munch Says:

unbelievable – Joes were trying to keep up morale because we all knew Cousins would have a huge day.

Heck I put money on it, so did everyone else in the comments I saw who said they bet on the game.

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This is going to cost Mayfield some money & I think he knows it……he’s showing some weaknesses lately and that will certainly affect his contract.

  8. Nick Says:

Is joe finally seeing the writi g on the walls of one buc? We have been saying it for over 2 years. This is bowles ceiling, he can coach a mediocre team. Thats it. Occasionally they will suprise you by beating a team they shouldnt….most of the time it ls by losing to teams we should slaughter. Year after year the defense has guys running wide ass open. We never have a pass rush. This is it, the best your gonna get around .500 and a first sound spanking in the playoffs.

  9. Tucker Says:

    Cya Todd.

  10. MikeBuc Says:

its not merely the yards or the points given up

its the eeeeeeeeeeaze at which opposing Qbs have been able to move the ball at critical times

over and over stretching back to last year and beyond. if theres little over a minute left – they just walk down the field.

  11. Bee Says:

The Baker you see today is the same Baker he’s always been. Remember the Detroit playoff game? He was erratic that game and choked at the end of the game.

This team can’t win with Baker

    —————

why do we need one? According to you the defense is solid and it garbage to blame that side of the ball

we should be fine with less than MVP

    Joe did too.

  15. August 1976 Buc Says:

Kirk Cousins is a modern day Craig Morton, a sitting duck in the pocket. I used to call Morton a statue back when he played with Denver.

And the Defense could not stop him again. Kirk the Buc killer

This is the way you coach yourself out of a NFL Head Coaching position.

Well lets see, how many minutes after the 17th game will Todd be fired?

  16. gotbbucs Says:

Bowles is married to this scheme. Thats why the same players continue to do the same things against this defense, game in and game out and no adjustments ever seem to be made. Stubbornness.

In no world will he be able to let someone else call his precious scheme. At that point, what value does Bowles have?

  17. adam from ny Says:

you run thru him like in the 80’s , early and often…

take the penalties and take him off his game…

    you just do it

  18. Inwoodjeremy Says:

I liked betting the Bucs weekly posting to understand everyone viewpoints of particular matchups. I was hoping it would gain more interaction. Cousins carved the defense up last year and so did everyone else ever since. Kinda hard to think it would magically stop all the sudden. Tough loss, lots of questions and decisions the organization has to make.

  19. Bosch Says:

No way you can pair Bowels with someone else as a defensive coordinator. He would become draconian in telling them how to do their job. You just have to fire him period.

Just remember. The Glazers didn’t earn their wealth. They inherited it. They never had to be wise, savvy, courageous or accountable. This team is a reflection of its ownership.

Now this is based on watching the game live, so I’m sure I missed some plays. But on plays where I was paying attention to the coverage, I only saw one pass all night where the Bucs blitz and Cousins completed a pass.

Then again I only remember a handful of blitzes at all. But most of the time when the Bucs brought pressure, Cousins threw a bad pass.

However, they know that, and they know that we know that, which is why Todd was playing 4D chess and sat back in zone because he knew that they were expecting blitz, and by doing the unexpected over and over and over again regardless of results, that would eventually baffle and befuddle Cousins. Brilliant scheme, but man, it just didn’t work out this week.

    ——-

    But what scheme?

    That is the issue.

This is NOT the scheme the Bucs won the SB with. The Bucs did not lead the league in zone in 2021 or 2022. When Arians was there to yell at Bowles to stay aggressive, the defense was aggressive, play a lot more man. Without Arians, we see turtle Bowles. If Bowles was answering to someone else who yelled at him to stay aggressive, we’d literally see a dramatic improvement next week.

  22. Saskbucs Says:

Multiple things can be true at the same time here fellas.

    Baker sucked, again.
Bowles is not a quality HC or DC and hasn’t been for years, some of us tried to give him the benefit of the doubt.

The coaches don’t watch film and adjust like they say they do (although the offense did some nice things tonight) otherwise they wouldn’t be the only team to get carved up by Cousins and Pitts… again.

It appears the great culture did lose too many dawgs and is now a country club.

Bowles is gone. No one is supporting this for another season, if you do you are a fool. Only way fans can speak is with their eyes and wallet.

  23. HC Grover Says:

Bozos Defense scheme is like Hurricane Spaghetti Models

  24. HC Grover Says:

Munch….u called it….The Turtle…I know what you meant then watched it happen. Then that stupid pass play…..I did not think it would Turtle but it did right on your call. I thought the Bucs had it in the bag. Put Evans in as Head Coach. Send Bozo to the Deep Bay and drop him off.

  25. Surfing The Waivers Says:

Kirk is old and immobile. And he’s a douchebag too.

I may trigger some of “his people”. Don’t Care.

    This sucks all around.
