“I Don’t Know If Anybody Understands How Tough This Is”

October 9th, 2025

Baker Mayfield is wowing NFL legends.

Joe hasn’t seen anything like this in a long time.

It seems everyone from coast-to-coast is on the Mayfield bandwagon. But what’s most impressed Joe is how the retired quarterbacks are bowing to Mayfield.

Joe just about never links to anything on YouTube and doesn’t embed YouTube videos here for a variety of reasons tied to treating Joe’s treasured advertisers ethically, but this one clears the very high bar.

Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner has a YouTube channel devoted to no-nonsene Xs and Os study and review. Joe’s learned a lot there over the years.

This week, Warner took on Mayfield versus the Seahawks and he doesn’t hide being blown away by Mayfield’s ability to execute “chunk” throws, “turn his hips and rip it, play with good fundamentals, use his eyes and read defenses.

Mayfield’s bomb to Emeka Egbuka seemed to take Warner’s breath away. “I don’t know if anybody understands how tough this is.” That’s why Joe devoted a post to that throw.

Joe hopes Warner dissects Mayfield another time or two this season.

The TD to SHEP was very impressive…

happy to see baker slide to avoid hits…

    off topic:
that roughing the passer call on Hall was BS…Ive seen baker get hit low or in the helmet and refs tucked the flag…

i hope the refs call a “fair” game sunday!!!!

    4-1!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

What impresses TBBF is the wide variety of throws in Baker’s arsenal…..accurate with zip.

  3. Bucsfan Says:

Super Bowl winning Coach Mike McCarthy just rated the top 5 QB’s in the NFL on the Pat McCafee Show and ranked Baker at #2.

  4. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

Off topic but Rashad White’s vision is much improved imo. Case in point, his last run Sunday when he basically cemented the win, his first 2 years he would have run straight into the back of the Oline. Instead, he bounced outside following his blockers.

Really impressed with his development – running, catching, and… blocking!

    Great job!

  5. What it is Says:

Ain’t Baker just the shizz 🥱

  6. Gipper Says:

    Bucsfan,

Don’t think Mayfield pays any attention to social media. We don’t want him too. Just keep doing what he has been doing. He is really into the study and prep. Grizz seems like a good match. Both are very smart and will not waste time with what is not going to work. Results oriented is how we like our offense.

  7. Saskbucs Says:

The running left throws to Tez for about 20 and Shepard for the TD are incredible.

If it was Mahomes with that game, every talking head in the country still wouldn’t be shut up about it. Mayfield is getting his flowers, it’s not a media competition, but when you are stacking up the best QBs in the game right now, those throws on Sunday show you why Baker is getting hyped as a top 5.

  8. JimBobBuc Says:

A great long ball that show’s tremendous improvement by Baker. He’s always thrown lazers on deep balls and receivers had trouble adjusting to the ball. This time Baker threw early with plenty of air under the ball letting Meka adjust to it.

  9. Billy Bucco Says:

813 I re-watched that throw just to see how he got it there against the grain?
He worked those hips man and has a rocket of an arm.

You could see when he air-mailed Tez earlier this year when he was wide open his arm is really strong on those mechanics.

His accuracy to that Egbuka seam route is unstoppable. I bet we see 5 more TDs this year on that route alone from the 30-35 yd line.

The intermediate routes to TEZ in the middle are also exciting. This is because Baker has such a strong arm. It gives Tez more time to turn and face.

I really like the direction this team has gone in a hurry. Baker seems rejuvenated because of it.

  10. OR Buc Says:

And to think that Baker had career numbers in his 1st year with the Bucs and everyone said he would regress to the mean. Then he had 40+ pass TDs and 4500 yards, with some extra turnovers, and everyone said this is his ceiling and he will regress. Now he is operating as one of the top QBs in the game (MVP level) across so many metrics, including protecting the football. He might not hit the same yards and TDs as last year, but turnovers are reduced (which equates to net positive points), he is operating the system to almost perfection and is stacking Ws. He would have more TDs, but remember we have several rushing TDs (e.g. rachaads 2 last week)

  11. 813BUCBOI Says:

    BILLY

baker accuracy this year is unreal lol

as you mentioned, his accuracy to that Egbuka on those seam route are starting to become unstoppable!!!!

and the funny things is, it was JMac cashing in on those seam routes in the last 5 games last year….

    4-1!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  12. Aqualung Says:

I’m surprised we haven’t yet seen a video detailing why Todd is regarded as a defensive genius and how giving up 400 yards in the second half is a brilliant strategy. Bowles is 0-5, his Qb has offset that with 4 miracles.

    Chickens come home to roost.

  13. Oscar Says:

Some here think that Baker has just recently acquired accuracy. He was known for his accuracy coming out of college. He’s flashed is exceptional skills throughout his professional career but the difference now is the quality of the receivers he has and the team that he plays for. And they seem to be getting better all the time. Naturally he has matured and improved as time goes on as everyone else does. Gipper has been telling you who Baker is for the last 3 years.

  14. Steven007 Says:

    Aqualung with another non sequitur.

  15. #99 the big fella Says:

If aqualung didn’t do his daily dose of bashing Bowles I would think something was wrong with him. 4-1 and him and Grover still complain

  16. Davyboy Says:

In the Red River Shootout between Oklahoma and Texas, Baker threw 6 passes over 50 yards in the 3 years he played. 5 were TD’s.
    50 yards to Sterling Shepard
    50 yard TD
    54 yard TD
    60 yard TD
    70 yard TD
    71 yard TD
    In one year he threw 3 TD of 50, 70 & 71. Several were 60 & 65 air
So what he is doing now isn’t anything new.

  17. James west Says:

Shake and bake Mayfield, love ya bro, doing a hell of a job, now do yourself a favor, get in Jason lichts ear and get mad Max in house, so ya, can hoist the Lombardi, if we can’t put the QB in the dirt, it’s one and done all over again, remember Washington?

  18. Gotti-Dog-05-20-84 Says:

Anyone else notice that Baker is at the top of Nick Wright’s Mahomes Mountain?

  19. Hammerhead Says:

Giants just beat Eagles at home.

Bucs lost at home to Eagles.

Bucs must suck. Or the Bucs roll over the niners this sunday.

  20. Marky mark Says:

It does not take long for smart guys like Warner to see Bakers talent. Baker had me on his first appearance as an NFL QB stepping in to get the first Browns win in 2 years against Todd Bowles and the jets. Baker even caught a 2 point conversion on a halfback pass. Todd of course, wanted to draft Baker but the Browns got there first. So all the detractors throwing around politically incorrect terms such as midget makes you wonder about b the intelligence of those peeps. Or maybe they had, some non football agenda…..
