Bucs Injury List Shortens; Chris Godwin Has A Leg Problem
October 8th, 2025
Out.
A thumb injury to corner Zyon McCollum and a leg issue for Chris Godwin are concerning, but otherwise the Bucs have a good-news injury report.
A lot of names have fallen off the injured list. It’s now a single-digit Bucs lineup down from 16 or 17.
The Godwin “fibula” problem is concerning. Is it related to his reconstructed ankle? The Bucs have not offered details.
The renowned Cleveland Clinic defines a fibula as follows: “The fibula is your calf bone. It’s the smaller of the two bones in your lower leg. It gives your calf its structure and forms the top of your ankle. Your fibula also supports lots of important muscles, tendons, nerves and ligaments.”
Maybe Godwin is just sore?
He and Mike Evans (hamstring) were deemed unready for practice today. The Bucs only had a walk-through session indoors. Bucky Irving (foot/shoulder), McCollum and cornerback Benjamin Morrison (hamstring) also were sidelined.
The 49ers are in even worse shape. They’ve got 17 injured players including their quarterbacks, Brock Purdy and Mac Jones.

Soon to be a contract problem if he continues to be an availability problem. Chris, my guy, love you – but be available, don’t drop passes when you are available or you’re going to be in line for some tough conversations with ownership. Tez Johnson was much better on Sunday and more electric anyway, F it.

Lotta love for Godwin man. I feel bad for the dude because I know he wants to play and produce. Sometimes life be that way.
October 8th, 2025 at 7:33 pm
I just went down the wormhole on Godwin’s fibula. Some of the injury reports that initially listed Godwin‘s ankle injury last year listed his fibula as a part of the injury. My guess is that it is either some soreness while he’s still in the recovery process, or the worst case would be he started back too soon and reinjured it. They might be hushed about it because they don’t know yet, he’s probably getting some scans to be safe.
October 8th, 2025 at 7:34 pm
With Trent Williams likely out, whoever is on that side better feast on the LT.
October 8th, 2025 at 7:35 pm
Godwin will be fine stop dramatizing his recovery
He’s sore it’s normal
October 8th, 2025 at 7:36 pm
Good to see Dean and Izian are practicing at least. If it’s Dean and Parrish outside with Izien at nickel, I feel better about that than last week’s lineup.
October 8th, 2025 at 7:39 pm
Probably just resting and sore, there was no obvious limping so maybe he is being cautious on the ankle, Wirfs is limited as well, hope Jalen Mcmillan comes, this is a lost year for Godwin, it is going to be a while till he is back to previous self.
October 8th, 2025 at 7:40 pm
Why would Trent Williams be “likely” out?
October 8th, 2025 at 7:40 pm
I have nothing but love for Godwin. What a dude! Prayers to a speedy recovery! Go Bucs! Lord heal these Bucs!
October 8th, 2025 at 7:44 pm
My hat’s off to Godwin!. He has not been on a football field in a year much less playing full speed after a major injury. Let’s hope he doesn’t have further complications from the injury . He will get through the rust with time. However, complications from the injury are a different story. I just hope for him that is not the case!!!.
He certainly has given a lot to the team, fans and the community!!
Yes sir!!
October 8th, 2025 at 7:46 pm
Has Sua Opeta healthy ?? Still on the team ??
October 8th, 2025 at 7:50 pm
gbobucsfan, they brought Wright back as they need another RB and just released Opeta.
October 8th, 2025 at 7:53 pm
2 of the players for 9ers on list is for rest. Can’t count them. More importantly, our injuries are concerning and virtually all of them are starters. Oof
October 8th, 2025 at 7:54 pm
Still behind you Chris.
October 8th, 2025 at 7:56 pm
At the next NFL-Player negotiation the players need to insist on a 60 man roster with all eligible on game day!
October 8th, 2025 at 7:56 pm
it’s concerning you usually dont see fibula as an injury . im not a doctor but being sore is a muscle thing not a bone thing.
October 8th, 2025 at 8:03 pm
Any word on when JMAC is coming back and the other 2 starting offensive lineman that are out?
October 8th, 2025 at 8:13 pm
haha Trent was being rested he won’t be out.
October 8th, 2025 at 8:26 pm
Too much speculation. Just wait til the next 2 days to get updates before saying some shiz. The dude didn’t do any football for almost a year until like 3 weeks ago.
October 8th, 2025 at 8:34 pm
Frankly at this point I ‘d rather find out what Tez can do than getting Chris back to full form before game 14.
October 8th, 2025 at 8:36 pm
BucsFan, Cody Mauch is out for the year. McMillan and Godecke I think will be out for at least another month to a month and a half.
October 8th, 2025 at 8:46 pm
I had a very similar injury in my early 20s. Completely dislocated my ankle and broke the fibula. I recovered completely in about 8 months. At 6 months, I was probably 80%, but was sore after any kind of strenuous activity. With all the medical staff available to CG, his injury must have been super bad!! God bless CG!
October 8th, 2025 at 8:52 pm
Love Godwin but he’s the worst WR we have right now. Sit him and let him get well
October 8th, 2025 at 8:52 pm
Wirfs knee? That’s also concerning, Joe
October 8th, 2025 at 9:03 pm
Godwin has a lot to prove…but they’ve got to be smart about it.
I’m still skeptical that he can return to form.
October 8th, 2025 at 9:13 pm
The previous two weeks I’ve said I don’t expect much of anything from Godwin. With that said, this week I predict Godwin goes over 100 yards this week, and gets a TD.
People are acting like he’s washed up because he bobbled a ball while looking into the sun, and then the defender knocked it out of his hands. Sure, Godwin at 100% makes that play, but he’s not at 100% yet, he only started practicing what, 2 weeks ago? And in that time he’s gotten in how many practices? He’s actually ahead of where I thought he’d be, and assuming this is just a rest day, I think he’s shaken off the rust and ready for a big week.
October 8th, 2025 at 9:21 pm
That’s my fault lol, I read Trent Williams and I thought his was the calf injury. I looked too fast.
October 8th, 2025 at 9:37 pm
*** this is a major red flag for Chris Godwin ++***
What the Fibula Is
• The fibula is the smaller of the two bones in your lower leg (the other being the tibia, or “shinbone”).
• It runs on the outside of your leg — from the knee down to the ankle.
• Its main jobs are to:
• Support ankle stability
• Serve as attachment for ligaments and muscles
• Help balance weight and rotational force, though it carries far less body weight than the tibia
So when you move your foot or ankle, the fibula is deeply involved — especially on that outside (lateral) side.
How a Fibula Issue Can Be Related to an Ankle Dislocation / Surgery
When someone dislocates their ankle, there’s often major trauma to the surrounding ligaments and bones, and that same event or the resulting surgery can affect the fibula in a few ways:
1. Initial trauma connection:
• A dislocated ankle often causes fractures in the fibula — especially at the lower end (called the lateral malleolus).
• Sometimes small fractures or stress injuries go unnoticed at first because the focus is on repairing the joint.
2. Post-surgical stress changes:
• When the ankle is surgically repaired, the fibula can bear new or altered stress during healing or walking.
• If gait or weight-bearing changes, it can cause inflammation or even a stress reaction in the fibula.
3. Hardware / ligament strain:
• If metal screws, plates, or ligament repairs were part of the surgery, they sometimes change how the fibula moves relative to the tibia and ankle — which can cause pain or secondary injury over time.
October 8th, 2025 at 9:45 pm
Trent Williams did not practice because he was given the day off for veteran rest not because of injury.
October 8th, 2025 at 9:46 pm
Sorry Mhystic
October 8th, 2025 at 9:51 pm
Doesn’t matter who the LT is for SF. Todd the Genius will have the DE/OLBs 20 yards down the field on third and long.
October 8th, 2025 at 9:52 pm
I’ve had the misfortune of multiple knee surgeries during my Army days. My experience is it takes a year to get back to 80-90% normal with strength and motion but pain can take 2 years as you get to 100%. Im hoping it’s feeling off and not 100% that is getting to Chris.
October 8th, 2025 at 9:58 pm
How come we haven’t gotten any updates on McMillan’s progress? What is the likelihood that he returns after the 8 game (or whatever it’s called) IR? Would be nice to know that we have some help on the way.
October 8th, 2025 at 10:14 pm
Sounds like many are ready to write Chris off already. I prefer to think it’s just part of the process of recovery. Someone said soreness is a muscle thing not a bone thing. Bone bruises can get very sore. Perhaps it’s just a bone bruise.
October 8th, 2025 at 10:22 pm
Crazy to write off Godwin when the team has Shep who had back to back years with major leg injures and years on the trash turf in Metlife. This isn’t Madden where an injury ends and a guy instantly regains form.
October 8th, 2025 at 10:24 pm

It was said when placed on IR that after the bye Jmac has a chance of returning. Nothing to actually update on until the week of the Saints game.
October 8th, 2025 at 10:25 pm
I hope for Godwin’s sake, it’s just sore. Game play is tougher than practice. EE is holding down the WR line and the rest of the WR room is pitching in. Get everyone healthy so we can make a deep run into the playoffs.
Wirf’s looked good last Sunday. He was pancaking guys. Let the guys that need to continue to heal, heal.
It’s a long season.
October 8th, 2025 at 10:58 pm
Well they are walking into a trap then because our defense is built to face a third string quarterback…
October 8th, 2025 at 11:07 pm
Love Godwin but it took him more than one season to fully recover from his prior knee injury and now his ankle injury. He and Evans have a penchant for dropping passes. Not so with Egbuka. Need to throw more to Tez and Shepard until McMillan comes back.
October 8th, 2025 at 11:36 pm
GODWIN IS TOAST
Licht made a great pick as a wr replacement
But made a horrible mistake signing a washed up player
Yes…hard to hear…love Chris but he is cooked
It is obvious. Waste of $44 million plus Reddick…Licht isn’t all that
October 8th, 2025 at 11:44 pm
*Sigh*
Both Godwin AND WIRFS showing up on the injury report again??? No! Please tell me they are already doing better…?

SB~LV Says:
October 8th, 2025 at 7:56 pm
At the next NFL-Player negotiation the players need to insist on a 60 man roster with all eligible on game day! I completely agree with this. Times have changed, players run faster and get hurt worse. Now they takes weeks off for concussions and they never did that before, more players need to be made available.
October 8th, 2025 at 11:59 pm
Lets use Tez Johnson. He caught every target and honestly looked fast. It would be great if he develops chemistry with Baker. Maybe he needs to spend time with Tom Moore and get into the play book. Shepherd was a dog as well.
October 9th, 2025 at 12:06 am
SPMatt
They’ve been on the injury list every week, including before their debut in the Philly game.
Wirfs I’m not worried about. Chris is worrisome.
October 9th, 2025 at 12:30 am
If they can just hold court with another win at home on Sunday, then we’re playing with ‘house money’ at Detroit, and I sit ‘em all for rest… Mike, Bucky, Etc. See what happens, and go on from there, with the Saints. It’d be real nice to be able to rest a bunch of them and allow them to heal until after the bye-week. But, we’ve got to make a couple of moves. If Hendrickson is there to be had for a 2nd, at a prorated salary, & we DON’T Pounce… Then, we’ve got a BIG problem with the FO (&/or) Ownership. It is THE PERFECT ‘Rental’ – and you keep him away from another rival contender. Cause, SOMEBODY gonna ‘step-up’ and git heem!!!! They can worry about what they’re gonna do about him and whatever else happens about next year… NEXT YEAR. We are in the ‘now’ – NOW.
October 9th, 2025 at 12:55 am
Was just thinking earlier today, that we’ve got to make sure we get one of those WR’s in that 2027 Draft-Class. There are at least SIX STUDS that are going to be available. We need to get one of them. Solidify our WR-group for the rest of Bake’s career. Can still use Mike situationally by then, if he still wants to play (on the cheap)… He could still be effective as a ‘possession’ receiver, on 3rd Downs, & inside the RedZone. I’m not sure how many seasons Chris is going to have left in him. Hopefully, he can come back strong next season as he did in 2024, and that we can squeeze out 2-more good seasons out of him. I’d say anything more than that though, is probably asking for a little too much.
October 9th, 2025 at 4:33 am
Hoping for only a sore ankle for Chris. Not only for football, but for his life off the field.
I am still upset about this injury and how it was done. Now Chris has had to have surgeries, rehab, and other essential therapy as well as missing out on the sport he loves. This was caused by a dirty play, hip-drop. And all the other guy got was a fine. But then the guy appealed the fine and won to not pay because the hearing officer said it wasn’t unnecessary roughness. Something smells there.
October 9th, 2025 at 7:17 am
Yeah and R. Smith was fined pocket change.
Makes me sick.
October 9th, 2025 at 8:43 am
Good to see Dean and Izien possibly playing Sunday!
October 9th, 2025 at 10:31 am
Sure glad to see the positive update on Izien. @heyjude, you are absolutely correct. Both of CG14’s injuries were serious, season ending ones. They were both illegal and deliberate. The first by the trash heap named Sean Payton and the Aints. The second by the Baltimore Ravens. I guarantee you the Broncos have a super tight leash on Payton. I am tickled that the Ravens look pretty lousy this year and have a losing record. Good. I hope they get their noses rubbed into the dirt. Mebbe there might be some justice in this messed up world!
October 9th, 2025 at 10:55 am
Agreed, orlbucfan. Sadly, they all learned the Bounty-Gate mentality.
October 9th, 2025 at 12:20 pm
Christian McCaf told the media the Bucs offered him a $100M contract.
I never heard this and I seriously doubt it.
Can anyone confirm or deny?
October 9th, 2025 at 1:04 pm
Goodwin may be just about done guys. He came back from a very serious injury,
His injuries are just stacking up.
October 9th, 2025 at 10:39 pm
If he was sore, don’t you think it would just say something like “leg” or maybe “ankle”?
Fibula? That can’t be good. Worried about Godwin and whether he ever truly comes back.
