Zyon McCollum Has A Significant Injury
October 8th, 2025
Zyon McCollum
UPDATED: Joe is neither a doctor nor a physical therapist, but Joe has no issue proclaiming the Bucs are down another top cornerback.
Unless cornerback Zyon McCollum was in an early Halloween costume as Jermaine Phillips, McCollum has a messed up thumb. He was wearing a cast/sling setup at Bucs practice today.
The screenshot above is from the X feed of local ABC affiliate reporter Kyle Burger.
Todd Bowles said McCollum had a “procedure” on the thumb this week and possibly could play Sunday, but Bowles sure sounded downtrodden and doubtful. Bowles added the injury occurred prior to Sunday’s game in Seattle.
Keep in mind fellow starter Jamel Dean missed Sunday’s game with a hip issue and No. 3 cornerback Benjamin Morrison did, too (hamstring).
Bowles said Dean seems to be closer to playing than Morrison.
Wacky times.
Joe suspects veteran Bryce Hall might be in line for a call-up from the Bucs’ practice squad to face the 49ers on Sunday.

Injuries are beyond ridiculous this season but hey we keep on winning! Go Bucs!
October 8th, 2025 at 12:26 pm
The injuries this year have been unbelievable!
October 8th, 2025 at 12:29 pm
i know it will make him Dean 2.0, but could he not get the “club cast” on covering his entire hand?
October 8th, 2025 at 12:30 pm
I know we have the NEXT MAN UP mentality, but do we really want to hear “Hey Desmond Watson, you play any DB?”
October 8th, 2025 at 12:33 pm
Bryce Hall is better than Vildor. Hall should already be on the active roster.
October 8th, 2025 at 12:36 pm
I would normally be worried as all the starting CB are pretty much injured at this point. But this defense can’t stop anyone anyways so it doesn’t matter to much. We just need the ball last and to out score whoever we play.
October 8th, 2025 at 12:38 pm
It’s not like he catches interceptions anyway
October 8th, 2025 at 12:42 pm
Can we get just 1 week with no major injuries?
October 8th, 2025 at 12:42 pm
I believe Rondè Barber played with a broken thumb during the 2002 Super Bowl run. What’s the problem ? 🙂
October 8th, 2025 at 12:43 pm
offense gonna need to be firing on all cylinders again to win this one.
October 8th, 2025 at 12:44 pm
Hey BEN, now you’re making ME cry BEN. It would be ideal if you, you know, stop getting injured. This guy….he finally comes back after missing all of camp, plays in one game (which he was outstanding in) Annnd Boom, injured again. That’s great Ben. We have one too many guys that perpetually get hurt already. Zyon being in a sling makes it that much more infuriating. Please note that the Bucs time of possession in the playoffs last yr was only like 20 minutes. This defense CONTINUES to be a problem and may ultimately torpedo an MVP type season from baker
October 8th, 2025 at 12:46 pm
cmc vs the linebackers and shanahan having a few extra days to game plan may be the bigger problem.
October 8th, 2025 at 12:47 pm
*&#$
Can’t he wear a club like linesmen do when they have a hand injury? He doesn’t need his thumb to swat a ball away from a defender… It’s like a MASH unit in Tampa.
October 8th, 2025 at 12:48 pm
Cue the “we need a new training staff” by the idiots who think a training staff can prevent contact injuries
October 8th, 2025 at 12:59 pm
Probably hurt it on the play that looked weird with him almost having a pick late.
If he has confidence he returns it 99 yds for a TD.
Looked like he jammed it or something.
These guys know what they need to win and if a backup won’t cut it against SF then, he will still play.
October 8th, 2025 at 1:05 pm
Get the contract, go on IR. Meanwhile, Licht will let a workhorse like White (Rashad) walk, and Morrison will be a sure five top 5 pay at his position resigning
October 8th, 2025 at 1:07 pm
You know at this point I’m no longer concerned about the injuries. I wish them a quick recovery though.
But I’m looking forward to see Baker and Grizz impose their will against the opponent.
Let’s Go!!!!!!!

Jeez Louise.
October 8th, 2025 at 1:29 pm
Injuries are really starting to pile up. The Football Gods may not give us the benefit of the doubt in some upcoming games. Our fortunes are bound to turn……
October 8th, 2025 at 1:31 pm
His injury happened prior to Sunday, yet he played – so play again. He is better than any backup, especially with glass Dean and Morrison on the shelf, again.
Score 40 and we should be alright. No alternative.
October 8th, 2025 at 1:38 pm
i don’t worry a ton about Hall. we could really use izien back too. who’s covering kendrick bourne?
October 8th, 2025 at 1:46 pm
Good. God. We need like 10 starting-caliber corners to be able to stay competitive? I have never seen a position group so constantly decimated by injuries. We can’t play aggressive defense with CB6/CB7/CB8 starting!
Somebody figure out how to fix this, please!

BucsFan81 … ‘I would normally be worried as all the starting CB are pretty much injured at this point. But this defense can’t stop anyone anyways so it doesn’t matter to much.’
Defense was actually doing a pretty decent job in Games 1-3. If you discount the TDs given up by S/Ts in the Jets game, our defense was actually giving up less than 20 PPG average until the Eagles’ game. That’s not all that shabby.
So what changed, and we gave up 31 pts to Philly & 35 pts to Seattle? We’d already lost Kancey (1st half of Game 2) but the subs did OK. But it looks like it all started when we lost Jamel Dean in the 1st half of Game 4 against the Eagles. Jamel only got 14 def snaps (25%) in that game, so I’d guess he got injured around the end of the 1st qtr. Looks like Morrison filled in for him then (and did an excellent job BTW), but it probably took him (and the Secondary) a bit to get ‘re-adjusted’. Eagles scored 1 TD & 1 FG in that 2nd qtr, which was probably while they were all getting adjusted to the loss of Dean (just my guess). In case no one noticed, our defense surrendered 2 TD & 1 FG in that 1st half, but in the 2nd half held the Eagles to 6 punts, gave up a TD. That was an impressive 2nd half of defense, and we almost came back.
And in the 5th game, without Dean, our defense looked quite lost, like it was playing super-conservative. Dean’s not a defensive leader, but … Seattle scoring 5 TDs passing in 9 drives (and almost 6 if not for the INT) tells me that there were a LOT of ‘defensive modifications’ being made to try to compensate for his loss. Also tells me that most of them weren’t working.
Like Erik, I’d much rather see Bryce Hall out there than Vildor. He was targeted 5 times by Darnold, and gave up 5 completions. Of course he wasn’t alone; Parrish was targeted 7 times & gave up 7 completions, LVD was targeted 7 times & gave up 6 completions, and SVD was targeted 6 times & gave up 5 completions. Just those 4 were targeted 25 times & surrendered 23 completions. Yup, must’ve been a LOT of modifications going on.
October 8th, 2025 at 1:56 pm
Benjamin Morrison and SVD always keeping it real.
October 8th, 2025 at 2:37 pm
If Morrison was healthy he could lock down the starting gig. These guys have got to want to compete.
October 8th, 2025 at 2:46 pm
Says he injured his thumb before the game and he still played. May not be that big a deal. He definitely won’t be catching interceptions (wasn’t anyhow) with some cast on his hand but he can still defend passes.
October 8th, 2025 at 2:56 pm
injuries are apart of the game
luckily we have a team that knows how to win…
4-1!!!
GO BUCS!!!!
October 8th, 2025 at 3:14 pm
The brittle Buccaneers strike again. Morrison is pathetic. what is he 22 yrs old and he’s been healthy for about 20 min sine he walked in the door. Jamaal Dean is a joke. The defense is terrible. They’re soft and they get abused constantly. Between the special teams ineptitude and a defense that is truly awful the good times are about to come to a sudden halt.
October 8th, 2025 at 3:34 pm
F it! Next man up!! No other options! Get it done!
October 8th, 2025 at 3:35 pm
Area Code Boo!!!!! YAY!!! Balloons!!! Ribbons! Confetti!
YAY!!!!
October 8th, 2025 at 3:58 pm
Jason should’ve drafted 4 corners instead of 2. It’s ridiculous how these guys all get injured every season are we’re always down to our 3rd string guys. McCollum, Dean, Morrison and Izien all out with injuries now
October 8th, 2025 at 4:09 pm
Purdy day coming oh no
October 8th, 2025 at 4:11 pm
These reporters need to get a better quality cell phone camera, like a Samsung s25 ultra with the crazy 30x-100x zoom 😅
October 8th, 2025 at 4:23 pm
Defense just gave up 35! How much more can they possibly let the opposition score? Just throw anyone out there and ask Mayfield to out score them! Best chance to win anyway.
October 8th, 2025 at 4:39 pm
Oxycondoms you got that right. We need to put Parrish on CMC. I suppose we can’t afford that with 3 CBs potentially out smh.
October 8th, 2025 at 5:03 pm
Bowles said he presumably can play with the injury they put a cast on his hurt thumb he will play
October 8th, 2025 at 5:20 pm
Death, taxes and Dean, Morrison and Kancey getting injured.
October 8th, 2025 at 5:56 pm
Yea ok Eric the idiot just like Tucker is better than White. I think you have shown you are not a Talent evaluater .You are in the class of Ironlung who said Tez Johnson sucks.
October 8th, 2025 at 5:58 pm
For a hot second I thought we managed to escape one game without another key injury!! Haaaha, sike! Oh well, we will have to win next few games 45- 44 in classic shootouts!
October 8th, 2025 at 6:09 pm
Are you f-ing kidding me with yet another injury to a starter??!?
Anywho, walk it off and get on the field. Ronde didn’t even miss a practice when he had a broken hand – Zyon can play with a busted up thumb.
October 8th, 2025 at 6:12 pm
So Bowles played that super soft garbage soft defense which let the Seahawks players rack up career high numbers because Dean and Morris were hurt, can you imagine what kind of numbers Matt Jones will put up if Zyon is also out? Expect 400+ yards and 5 TDs. Baker, Godwin and e2 had better be ready to put up a lot of points.
October 8th, 2025 at 6:16 pm
at some point we have to start asking whether this is more than just bad luck
October 8th, 2025 at 6:58 pm
Say hello to the Bowles Soft Zone, lol. A pass rush would sure help!
October 8th, 2025 at 8:14 pm
Ben Morrison is pathetic. If this guy ever plays more than 10 games in a season I would be shocked. If betting markets put out an o/u on his starts before every season I could retire early by hammering the under

at some point we have to start asking whether this is more than just bad luck
———-
Well a thumb injury is bad luck, hard to pin it on anything else.
But other injuries, in particular stuff like hamstrings, strains, etc – yeah, it’s because of the NFLPA demanding limited number of practices where you can’t even go full speed. Guys aren’t going 100% until they get into games, and that leap to full speed is getting guys hurt. Of course the NFLPA, when they’re not blowing money on strip clubs, will run a ‘study’ on this and determine that the answer is even less practice and down time – and of course with each injury comes a new player who the NFLPA gets a cut off (and the injured players also have to pay in, so each new injury means more money to stuff down a woman’s g-string).
