Todd Bowles Talks Avoiding Week 3 Blues

September 17th, 2025

So the Bucs have been 2-0 in all four seasons that Todd Bowles has been head coach of the team.

They’ve also fallen to 2-1 in each of those seasons.

Coincidence? Bad luck?

It seems Bowles believes the team has gotten a little soft after being celebrated for strong starts.

“So this will be very important for us coming home [in Week 3] and everybody’s patting you on the back and you got family coming to town and you need more tickets and then your concentration goes,” Bowles said. “So our focus in practice this week has gotta be at a premium.”

Bowles’ comments came yesterday on the Buccaneers Radio Network.

Getting to 3-0 is a signficant hurdle for Bowles and the Bucs. There is no excuse to lose to the Jets on Sunday in Tampa for the home opener at The Licht House. In addition to the Jets being bad with a new head coach, it looks like old man backup Tyrod Taylor will start at quarterback for concussed Justin Fields.

Last time we started 3-0 was 2005. Yikes!

  2. Common sense Says:

Breece Hall gonna have 150 rec yards

  3. MadMax Says:

We need this and then rest against philly.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Coming down from NC for this game….we usually win when TBBF attends…..9-1 in last 10.

  5. LouisFriend Says:

Right now it’s hard to know how strong the Bucs really are with their OL situation being what it is. This current group brings them down to average, IMO. It might be enough to beat the Jets this week, but they’ve got to get Wirfs back ASAP.

*Interesting thought – should Wirfs play RT if Goedke remains out for a while? Barton is doing okay at LT, and Heck is a pass blocking liability at RT. Bring Tristan back to RT temporarily might be their best blocking configuration for the short term.

  6. gofortheface30 Says:

Graham Barton and especially Charlie Heck getting the Allen Iverson crossover put on them and thus Baker Mayfield dying on the football field would be sort of an excuse to lose. Dont care if its the Jets, this is a league where the fans love to spit out the most ultimate cliches such as: “on any given sunday.” They are not going 17-0 either, so it stands to reason that the chances of winning are compromised because of completely useless pass blocking, and coming off a short week. If anything the best time for Wirfs to return is THIS week to get his legs and timing back under him, as opposed to the Eagles

  7. Cobraboy Says:

If history teaches us lessons, Tie Rod Taylor will be All Pro for a week.

  8. Smarter than Joe Says:

Take the Jets and the over on the passing yards

Todd Blows is a Defensive Coach with a lousy defensive scheme. ZERO confidence in this guy to maintain success

Bucs are 2-0 based on Baker and the timely scoring, NOT Todd and his awful defensive scheme

Look how quickly ATL turned their D around. Todd Blows has been here for over 6 years and can’t fix this D

  9. Steven #55 Says:

Trap Game – Jets are gonna be desperate for a win and our O-Line will be patchwork at best. I’m expecting another grind it out style game.

  10. First Last Says:

Hopefully this isnt like the Broncos game where we didnt take them serious and got smoked only to bounce back by clapping the Eagles

  11. Jeff Says:

Jets 20 Bucs 13. This is Denver all over again.

Stroud is going to SHRED this soft pass defense that Todd is in love with
    ***********************
You wrote that before the Houston game. So did Stroud shred the Bucs, little man? Looks like you’re not too smart with your predictions.

Now you’re saying the Jets will run over the Bucs. Anyone who wants to cash in should wager the opposite of the idiocy you’re spewing.

  13. UGotRobbed Says:

Last year it was a 0-2 rookie that made us look bad…Will it be an 0-2 12 year veteran this year!?
    😆

  14. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

Tyrod Taylor is a Buc killer if I remember correctly…

This is setup to be a classic letdown game for us…

Hopefully, we can Buc the trend.

  15. Leopold Stotch Says:

Tyrod Taylor? No way we should lose. He’s terrible! I will be very upset if we drop this game. Defense needs to step up

  16. Smarter than Joe Says:

    @Louisfriend

The tape does not lie, WR’s were running wide open, Stroud didn’t hit them or didn’t have the protection. The plays were there for the Texans offense

Watch the All 22, educate yourself and you will see this scheme is so bad in pass defense. Be a better fan

Come to section 310 if you need some help understanding the game

  17. gofortheface30 Says:

Smarter than joe – i Would think someone with such a deep level understanding of the game can afford better seats than nose bleeds. Im good, I dont like watching games with binoculars

  18. Hodad Says:

Just put on the Denver tape from last season. That’s one they should remember.

  19. WillieG Says:

I noticed he’s not giving days off after victories. I hope that continues for most of the team because I think it hurt them last season.

  20. Jmarkbuc Says:

Bucs are 3-10 lifetime vs. the Jets.

  21. infomeplease Says:

Man there isn’t much PMA going on here!!! Come on, give the Buc’s coaches and depth players some slack! They have some time, although it’s a shorter than usual week, to game plan and prepare!! And let’s not forget the Buc’s got their run and screen game working too!!!!! This is a very winnable game!! I’m sure BM6, ME13, EE2, BI7, RW1, and SS17, will put forth a strong effort for another W!!!! I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, few games are! The Buc’s can win this game!!!!! LFG!!!!

  22. Obvious Says:

Fields is in protocol. There’s no reason to think that he def will not start. It maybe a long shot or not. But if he does play I can think of several reasons why they can beat us:

    -Fields
-Breece Hall in the open field
    -Garrett Wilson
-Q wrecking the game in the middle of our taped together oline
    -Special teams falling apart

I’ve really liked what I’ve seen from Bowles the first two games. Props to him.

All I want coming out of week three is a win, don’t care how, and no more injuries. We need Todd and staff to come up with a game plan on how to achieve the former. If we can do both, 3-1 going to Seattle with wirfs and maybe even Godwin coming back (I’m expecting Luke to be out a month) it’s a huge success.

  23. Ander Says:

Looking at all these comments would make me think the jets are a super bowl contender. Lmao

  24. 813bucboi Says:

    THE JETS?!?!?…..LOL….

    3-0!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  25. Jerseybuc Says:

Back up QB is Bucs fans know all about the back ups and rookies tearing bowels defense to shreds let’s hope this week is different

  26. Rastaferian Jenkins Says:

If we run the ball like we did last week we will handle it. Simple offense, screen game, and wear em out in the heat. Im calling a big game for Mike, he’s been quiet through two weeks.

  27. KABucs Says:

The trolls keep bringing up Denver but the Broncos and the Jets are two very different teams.
It’s the home opener and everyone on the team knows they keep losing game 3. I think there will be focus, precision and a lot of points scored. I look for the ground game to be solid.
Now if special teams can pull their heads out of their collective butts…

    Also, no more injuries, please!

  28. fire bowles Says:

be so fr. we are not losing to the jets lol

  29. TampaTed Says:

I consider myself a pessimist but feel confident the Bucs will have this one in the bag. Need everyone rested and ready for Philly and Seattle.

  30. orlbucfan Says:

Screw cheating Payton, we’re not playing him. He shouldn’t be in the League but money/corruption rule. Bowles and his players know what they are facing. They will be ready Sunday even with the usual walking wounded. I CAN NOT wait until at least the Offense gets back to full strength! Go Bucs, 3-0!!

  31. David Says:

Even with the depleted trenches, they should beat the Jets but they better not let up. They better bring it or they’ll lose.

  32. jimmy Says:

so fields is out for this weekend…hopefully the usual 300+ yard career day doesnt come to be for tyrod taylor….

  33. LouisFriend Says:

    jimmy Says:

so fields is out for this weekend…hopefully the usual 300+ yard career day doesnt come to be for tyrod taylor….
    ************************
If it makes you feel any better – Over his 58 starts Taylor has thrown for 300+ yards twice. Both were losses. Whatever happens Sunday, the odds are extraordinarily low that Taylor will go off.

  34. garro Says:

Gonna be really tough to avoid an L with half the team hurt. I’m sure the effort will be there but…

    Go Bucs!

  35. mj Says:

this game may be closer than we thought

so sick of the negative comments on here, i’m deciding to not read them …idiots you’d think we were 0-2 bunch of racist haters …enjoy the golden age of bucs football

  36. Mike Johnson Says:

Bowles is spot on. We cannot take the Jets lightly. The fact that their backup QB is starting makes them even more dangerous. Tayloe loves pulling the ball down and scampering for 20 to 30 yards. Bowles might need to put a Spy on him. Don’t underestimate these Jets.
