Emeka Egbuka Downplays Role In Called Shot

September 14th, 2025

Star already?

The guy makes a couple of touchdown catches in his first NFL game and he’s already on NFL Network.

That’s where Emeka Egbuka found himself Friday night with an appearance on “The Insiders,” seen weeknights on NFL Network. In this particular episode, Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport were co-hosting.

The duo wanted to hear more about Egbuka’s called shot to win the game over Atlanta last week. Egbuka tried to downplay his role, saying it was much more of a team effort than what’s being written about.

“I am by no means our OC [offensive coordinator],” Egbuka said. “I wasn’t out here saying the exact play we should run.

“Our OC has a lot of trust in the things that we report back to him when we come to the sideline. And Baker [Mayfield] obviously wants to know what his wide receivers are thinking.”

The play was run twice previously in the game and Egbuka thought he could beat his man, which happened to be Atlanta corner Mike Hughes. And just as Egbuka expected, Atlanta never had Hughes adjust his defense and Egbuka knew he had the play.

“We ran that play a couple of times on the opposite hash and I was just burning that corner every time I ran it,” Egbuka said.

Egbuka also threw love Mayfield’s way not just because Mayfield threw him the game-winning touchdown, but because Mayfield has helped make him the receiver he is today.

Practicing and playing with Mayfield is a learning experience, Eguka said, and Mayfield motivates him just by how he attacks the game of football.

Egbuka was asked why he already is so polished of a player and a person. He gave a wise response. “When you are in the NFL draft and you are a team that needs a wide receiver, betting on someone who went to Ohio State isn’t a bad choice.”

Listen to this kid talk. THEN, listen to some old clips of Devin White. I am reminded of the Fat Albert cartoons of my youth

Pretty sweet that when our HoF stud Mike Evans does retire, we have our new #1 for the next 10 years. This pick looks better by the day.

Going D and this kid on the Packers would have been a problem!
