Jason Licht Sad To See Trey Palmer — On The Saints
August 28th, 2025
Booted Bucs receiver Trey Palmer.
The Bucs dumped receiver Trey Palmer and kept seven other receivers on their roster.
Most teams keep only five or six receivers.
So it’s safe to say the Bucs weren’t too high on Palmer. Well, the Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht took out his watercolor set and sort of painted a different picture today during his visit to WDAE radio.
Licht said he wanted Palmer, his 2023 sixth-round draft pick, to stick around, albeit off the 53-man roster.
“Hard to say goodbye to Trey Palmer. He’s done some good things for us and we were hoping to get him back on the practice squad,” Licht told The Drive with TKras. “To see him go to the Saints kind of was, you know, you never like to see a division foe get one of your players. That was a tough one for us.”
Licht went on to laud Kameron Johnson, who Licht praised for being a gunner, a capable returner and a receiving talent.
Joe doesn’t see an NFL player in Johnson. What Joe does see is Palmer falling out of favor with the organization after 39 catches as a rookie and an uninspiring job as a punt returner last season.
Joe will be curious to see if Palmer sticks with the Saints, which claimed him on waivers after the Bucs cut him.

Johnson drops way too may balls. !!!

Trey Palmer is only 24 years young, with a huge upside. He just didn’t fit in Liam Coen offense. He’s in good hands now, he’s with a team that will play him to his strength. He’s back home in Louisiana. I do think that concussion be suffer last season, affected his play. I think it happened in game four.

I hope he didn’t manage to sneak a playbook out of One Buc place with him down to New Orleans…. wouldn’t put it past Saints management to have that been an unwritten requirement for employment.

The chances that Trey Palmer burns us sometime in the future are much greater than Trask ever burning us. Even if Trask went to a division rival as well.
Just saying

Well, best of luck to him. Shouldn’t be hard to stick on that awful roster.

Isn’t Rattler the QB in NO? Im not sure he’ll set the world on fire.
August 28th, 2025 at 5:03 pm
Spencer Rattler was playing like the rent was due. Saints being the model of NFC south ineptitude drafted that bum Shough and Rattler obviously took it personally. Good for them, couldn’t happen to a worse franchise. I wish for them to continue to spiral, don’t care if it takes a decade.

I would never sleep on New Orleans
They beat us twice, during both Super Bowl runs
August 28th, 2025 at 5:06 pm
He will have a long TD catch against us. Per usual. But that’s about it probably
August 28th, 2025 at 5:09 pm
He will hurm us. Another routine Bowlwes Par.

I understand that Bowles kept Kam for his return abilities, but the guy does nothing but drops passes. Palmer is a better WR just not used right. Let’s hope Kam doesn’t get to play WR in a real game because the guy is horrible. Hope Trey doesn’t burn our defense.

Kam Johnson, and recieving talent that can’t catch.
August 28th, 2025 at 5:34 pm
Palmer should stick with the Ain’ts because their roster is trash. F Cam Jordan.
August 28th, 2025 at 5:39 pm
What else is new? Good luck to Palmer.
August 28th, 2025 at 5:45 pm
You can’t keep everyone. He went to a team without a QB but will become a minor star next year with Arch Manning throwing it to him.
August 28th, 2025 at 5:54 pm
I’m sure the Saints will be pumping Trey for as much insider information about our offense as they can possibly get… Glad it wasn’t the Falcons!

Some fans just get too excited about guys like Palmer. Fast is cool and all, but this is football. Trey Palmer is not a great football player. He’s not a great outside receiver and he’s not physical enough to play inside. He couldn’t even use his speed to a value at returner. The rookie, Tez is way smaller and not as fast but he’s clearly better at this football thing.

Kid played for LSU, he’s probably liking this
August 28th, 2025 at 7:21 pm
Beeej,
He left LSU n transferred to Nebraska because he could never unseat JaMarr Case n or Justin Jefferson. Palmer lacks courage, field vision, good hands, n the will n determination to make effort to reach out for a milli inch to get a first down. Kam really haven’t had enough time on the field to be considered a bust. Yes he missed a few passes but he’s really just like a rookie this year with not much practice as others. I believe once he get some game time experience under his belt he’ll then start to gell.
August 28th, 2025 at 7:28 pm
I’m thinking he was the player that the team was pissed at during practice.
(From previous JBF article) GO BUCS!!!
August 28th, 2025 at 7:34 pm
Good – we get to watch Palmer run to the sidelines on their punt and kickoff returns.
August 28th, 2025 at 10:27 pm
WHODAT?

I’m a bit surprised they weren’t able to trade Palmer for anything – I even said I knew he’d get claimed when the Bucs cut him, just based on his rookie year and his workout numbers, someone will give him a slot, at least bring him in for a look in any case. Doesn’t mean the Bucs made a bad call, they’re just deeper at WR than a lot of teams.
As for Kam, I’m shocked he’s still on the roster, but lets see where we are after week one. I liked Kam more than most I think, and remember how great he looked offseason, and the fact he made the team, before getting injured. But this preseason he didn’t look like much, and no one is claiming him if they cut him. The Bucs will almost certainly bring back a veteran after week 1 (if some of these borderline vets are on the roster week 1 their salary for the year is guaranteed) and likely Kam will be the guy to get the boot, unless he has a really good week 1. But I’m not rooting against the kid, outside of that Bills game, he’s generally looked good when called on.

Licht was, as usual being honest. I think his comments say more about his feelings about the Taints than anything about Palmer. They are probably picking his brain about the Bucs offense as we speak BTW
Go Bucs!
August 29th, 2025 at 3:42 am
I think Kam is just a better special teamer. Honestly, Palmer had a few lucky plays and that’s about it. Crazy speed will do that for ya. As far wide receivers skills, I’d take Palmer by a nose. He’s a good bit bigger and a lot faster. As far as courage goes, Kam has more heart. Bottom line: they are both bubble players. Jags

Good morning Garro. Remember this, my friend: the early bird gets the worm, but it’s the second rat who gets the cheese. LOL.

You don’t let a guy get away if he is any good. Your job as a GM /Coach is to pick the best players. Your job future depends on it. Trey had the entire off season, training camp and preseason to make his case. He failed, he’s gone.
