Kyle Trask Not Concerned With What’s Next

August 23rd, 2025

Kyle Trask talked at his locker tonight.

UPDATED: Does Kyle Trask have a Buccaneers future? Nobody in charge of the team seems to want to say, “Damn right he does. Kyle’s our guy.

Trask seemed to be his usual chill self after the Bucs-Bills preseason game tonight with a swarm of media types around his locker.

Joe asked Trask if he was concerned about what’s next in his future. The Bucs will cut their roster from 90 to 53 players by Tuesday afternoon and Trask’s job isn’t secure. “No, I trust God with everything I do and control what I can do,” Trask said.

The fifth-year quarterback later told another reporter he had no thoughts of “outside information” tonight. He said off-field noise can make you play “a lot slower.”

Asked how his 2025 preseason went, Trask said he thought he had a solid Week 1 and then needed to clean up a bunch of things after the Week 2 game in Pittsburgh.

That progress was made, Trask said, and he called the past week a big learning experience, “a lot of lessons.”

Tonight, Trask said his performance was”really solid.” His final stat line was 13-for-17 for 93 yards and a touchdown.

The Joe typing here thinks Trask has no shot at being the Bucs’ No. 2 quarterback over the majority of this season. That job will go to Teddy Bridgewater, but it’s unclear if the Bucs will keep Trask as a No. 3 QB. Nobody’s talking publicly at One Buc Palace, and Bridgewater’s salary has been a tightly kept secret.

Joe’s hoping Trask sticks around. As a fifth-year player, he doesn’t have to clear waivers to get on the practice squad, though he might want to play elsewhere.

    Dude is temu Brad Johnson

  2. LakelandBuc Says:

I don’t think Trask has much confidence in his abilities
Why resign with a team that sees you as.nothing more than a backup. There’s 31 other teams in the NFL, the Bucs are not the only team. Another team might give you the opportunity to compete for a starting job. Why keep settling for less with the Bucs?

  3. TREY ALDERSON-CLOUTIER Says:

Trask seems like just an okay QB. I see him playing smart but very conservative most of the time. If he wants to take his game to the next level, he’s got to take some more shots down the field.

  4. RagingBrisket Says:

Trask might be awesome or mediocre. We will never know.

  5. Pickgrin Says:

Bridgewater is the one going to the Practice Squad…

He’s been here for what – 6 practices and played 2 series in 1 game? Teddy is still in the early stages of learning this offense. Bucs would be stupid to count on him as the backup QB for game 1. If something happened to Baker and they had to put Bridgewater in the game vs Atlanta – Grizz would have to cross out 2/3 of his playbook – leaving the offense very situationally limited…….

  6. Britt Says:

I don’t know why our coaches would have ever want to roll out Teddy two glove if baker went down, he is downright awful! Our coaches literally don’t know how to train up a qb for the future , they have always thought it better to have someone with past experience. Meanwhile they have never given Trask an opportunity to gain experience. In blowout wins and blowout losses he has been sitting on the bench, in preseason games they bench all of the starters and send him out with receivers that can’t get separation and a 2nd/3rd string line. Truly awful coaching.

I was an offensive Coordinator and QB Coach for on the high school level for 7 years, one thing I learned early is that some day my backup qb will lead my team, and if I wanted him to succeed I need to find ways to get them on the field early so he could learn and grow and so I have game tape I can breakdown and coach him with.

  7. Capt ahab Says:

I believe Trask will be QB 2 and Bridgewater on the practice squad as a security blanket. Trask knows this offensive and has rarely had a shot with the first team offensive line. Tonight he was under constant pressure from a terrible offensive line and under bad circumstances had a respectable night.
Joe Montana couldn’t perform to his standard behind the continuous leaky offense line that Trak has had to deal with. Last week Bridgewater got to play behind the first string line, Trask to my knowledge has never gotten that opportunity in preseason action.

  8. Capt ahab Says:

Had a couple of cocktails, sorry for the typos.

  9. Ryan Says:

Trask no longer has to clear waivers because this is his fifth year in the league.

  10. FortMyersDave Says:

The fact that Godwin and Wirfs are not going on the PUP means that it is a lot less likely that the Bucs will carry 3 qbs on the 53-man roster but will carry one on the practice squad. A lot of people, me included, are thinking that Trask has finally run out of rope, Baker’s hand injury made the Buc’s brain trust realize they simply do not trust the guy and got Bridgewater…. That being said, a lot of people still believe in Trask and perhaps the coaches do as well. We will find out very soon if Kyle stays or if he goes…….

  11. Oxycondomns Says:

he should be concerned, i truly believe he will not be picked up by any team. trask is how tebow would look off steroids.

  12. MelvinJunior Says:

Yeah, Ol’ Kam Johnson really helped him out A LOT tonight!!!! LoL

  13. MelvinJunior Says:

IF, Teddy really is as seriously “ill” as what Bowles let on during his postgame press conference, then I don’t know HOW the hell he could even practice at ALL this upcoming week. Even the ‘following week’ sounds as if it’d take a Willis Reed Game-7, or Michael Jordan “flu-game” type of miracle LoL. I mean, hell, Todd acted like he was on his fricken deathbed or some shizz Lmao.

  14. Buc king Says:

I like Trask I hope he stays…im not a believer in teddy

  15. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

“Bridgewater’s salary has been a tightly kept secret.”
    .
    .

Spotrack says $1,255,000 with no guarantees.

Same source has Trask at $2,787,500 including $1,337,500 guaranteed.

  16. Hodad Says:

Bowles in his presser went out of his way to praise Bazelak. When asked at halftime what he thought about Trask his answer was, Tez Johnson made him look good. Teddy was seen on the sideline all smiles, didn’t look sick to me. Trask is as good as gone. That decision was made the day Teddy signed. Don’t know who the backup should be, ain’t up to me. Both aren’t that good really, doesn’t make much difference. Teddy will be our backup this season. Bazelak to the PS. Trask, who knows where his career goes from here, but it’s not with the Bucs.

  17. heyjude Says:

    Thought Bazelak played well too.

  18. Fred McNeil Says:

Can he say ” do you want fries with that?”

  19. PSL Bob Says:

I like Trask. He’s a good guy and an adequate QB. I’m just tired of all the uncertainty surrounding him. First it was, will he or Baker be our starting QB? Now it’s will he or Bridgewater be our backup QB? I think it’s probably in Trask’s best interest to go to another team where he will have a legitimate shot at being the starting QB. That’s the only way we’ll ever know if he has what it takes.

  20. KABucs Says:

Trask would have a chance to start in Cleveland & New York with the G-men.
Not saying he would actually like to play with those organizations or live in those cities. LOL

  21. heyjude Says:

PSL – Absolutely agree. It is decision time.

  22. Ringer Says:

This is so déjà vu with the farce of a starter competition with Mayfield. Don’t get me wrong. I’m glad Mayfield is our starter and deserves it. But bowles makes up his mind on a guy and he’s never accepted Kyle. This BS about Teddy couldn’t play was only to keep him from having to play with the backups like Kyle has had to. Because then everybody would see he’s no damn better and Todd would have more explaining to do to Buc nation when he inevitably chooses TB. It’s laughable at how obvious the play was. I put the JMac injury on the TB decision as well. We had great team chemistry and mojo going this offseason and now finally Kyle could show what he’s got with starters in Pitt. Then gets the rug pulled out from under him. Oh yeah if KT did well in that scenario….more explaining would be needed when Todd discounts it…because he can’t convince himself KT has what it takes. Those comments not giving Kyle any props for a good night and his shenanigans on who he plays here in the preseason. I’ve got no respect for this clown Bowles and I was just starting to warm up to him. I really want Kyle to get his shot elsewhere. It’s an absolutely shame of a move.

  23. Irishmist Says:

If nothing else, the guy is an incredible good luck charm. In the five years he’s been here we have never had a serious injury to our starting quarterback. That’s almost unprecedented. He’s like the anti-Fitz. We shouldn’t tempt the injury Gods by giving him up.

  24. Trask To The Future Says:

    Ringer,

    You’re 100% right about Bowles.

    TRASK WILL BE CUT.

It’s absolutely ABSURD that Bowles would never let Trask play in garbage time (many games were out of reach with lots of time left). He was never given the opportunity to play behind the starting OLine and throw to Evans & Godwin.

The guy was done dirty and no one will ever convince me otherwise.

  25. BucVoyager Says:

Trask is ready to get his coaching career started. The only team that is hurting enough to sign him is the Saints.

  26. Stallworth Says:

Trask is probably as good as Bridgewater which means neither is going to lead us to a playoff game if Baker goes down. It really doesn’t matter. The Bucs have done Trask dirty this preseason. They gave Bridgewater a start with the first team offense after just 6 practices with the team after signing. Then used the sick excuse so Bridgewater didn’t have to play with the 2nd team offense. It has never been a fair competition. At this point I hope they cut Trask, I’m tired of hearing about him. Hopefully Bridgewater doesn’t get any more of our WR’s killed.

  27. Oneilbuc Says:

Ringer. Trask was better then Baker in training camp back then that’s why the fan base has been split between Trask and Baker. Now the Joe’s and others will say those are gators fans that say Trask out played Baker Mayfield. That’s the lame excuse but I don’t care about what college a player comes from. I want the best players on the field regardless of position. Even the local news in Tampa stopped interviewing Baker after practice that year because they even though he was going to be the starter. Even the media was saying Baker Mayfield should just go be a college analyst that year. Until Ira source said Baker Mayfield would be the quarterback week one and Baker had 8 ints to Trask one pick. And right after that the same week Baker came out and said I wish they just named a starter even though he had thrown that many picks because they promised him the starting job from the jump. If Baker Mayfield played like Trask that year and Trask played like Baker I would be saying that Baker Mayfield should be the starter.

  28. JimBobBuc Says:

IF, IF, Trask is put on the practice squad, it will be interesting to see if Canales or Coen pick him up.

  29. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

The Raiders need a back-up QB now as Aidan O’Connell fractured his wrist last night. Trade bait for Trask?

  30. ukester Says:

Trask could have done great things last night but looked like a 3rd string qb-practice squad or retire

  31. Jeffrey Becker Says:

now that Raiders lost Aidan for half the season, trask is beyond a natural fit for them.

  32. Jeffrey Becker Says:

Bridgewater might actually like the practice squad scenario better. Maybe we could let him spend time taking care of his semi-adopted kids and in exchange he could agree not to sign with another team. Keep Greene active during all this as last wideout behind Miller.

  33. sunny Says:

There’s 31 other teams in the NFL, the Bucs are not the only team. Another team might give you the opportunity to compete for a starting job. Why keep settling for less with the Bucs?

uh.. maybe because he didn’t receive any offers from any of the other 31 teams? there was no interest in him for a trade either. it says a lot that the raiders, panthers, and jags had zero interest in trying to get him even when he was a free agent and their qb situations were not good.

and oneilbuc.. you keep spouting that same line about trask outplaying baker in training camp even though you’ve been told over and over by people who were actually THERE that trask had a couple of good practices and baker had a couple of bad practices, but trask was inconsistent and overall.. baker did a better job both in practices and in the preseason. baker improved from the first practice til the last one, and trask did not. baker was the better leader both on and off the field.

  34. sunny Says:

bazelack played better than trask last night with the 3rd stringers. he had more passing yards, the same number of tds, a 30 yd pass to trask’s 15 yd long. almost all of trask’s passes were less than 5 yds..

  35. MelvinJunior Says:

“KABucs” I’m not getting into this Cleveland idea again, since I already did on the very first Trask post of the night (I believe it was), while the game was still going on! But, same deal with the NY Giants… I mean, have YOU SEEN how their 1ST-ROUND Draft-Pick Jaxson Dart played and looked this preseason, or even heard all of the ‘excitement’ national, concerning HIM (outta Ole Miss and they ‘traded back up’ for him, giving up a future 1ST-ROUND Pick for)!? THEIR QB ‘decision’ for their immediate longterm future plans is now 💯 COMPLETELY settled. Do any of you all follow any of the other ‘teams’ at ALL!? It just really makes me question where all of this stuff comes from… Is it just ‘willy-nilly’ stuff, because you think these teams suck and therefore must not have any of their ‘own plans’ at QB? If not, then explain WHY you think that way. It’s no different than these ‘political posters’ – Trump SUCKS, You’re a RACIST! Okaaaayyy, then tell me why YOU think that way… It’s Just Empty.

  36. MelvinJunior Says:

Trask is absolutely NOT stepping onto the field and STARTING for the Browns, OR Giants. So, stopppp. LoL

  37. El hefe Says:

Kam Johnson is to blame for last nights bs trask feed the guy the ball all game he only started to make plays in the 2 min drill

  38. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

    Hodad Says:
“Bowles in his presser went out of his way to praise Bazelak. When asked at halftime what he thought about Trask his answer was, Tez Johnson made him look good.”
    .
    .

Yeah that might be the cruddiest thing I’ve ever heard Bowles say. Like he’s intentionally brushing Trask off. The ball has to be there before Tez can catch it, right?

I guess we could say JMac made Teddy look good.

  39. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

    El hefe Says:
“Kam Johnson is to blame for last nights bs”
    .
    .

I’m not big on “what ifs,” but if Kam doesn’t drop balls that hit him in his hands last night, Trask’s stat line looks a lot better.

Then Bowles could have double-insulted Trask by giving two receivers all of the credit for his decent performance.

  40. Joe Says:

I’m not big on “what ifs,” but if Kam doesn’t drop balls that hit him in his hands last night, Trask’s stat line looks a lot better.

And Johnson might have won a job.

  41. Joe Says:

Here is Bowles’ full quote on Trask and Tez Johnson. Bowles actually praised Trask.

“[They were] more boot[legs] and Tez was catching and running. We got him moving with his speed and athleticism and we got the ball in his hands sort of like a returner, which was great because he can get away from people and get downfield. He’s very elusive that way. Kyle found a way to get him the ball. ‘Grizz’ (Offensive Coordinator Josh Grizzard) did a great job of scheming up how we can get him the football and they connected.”

  42. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

    Joe Says:
“And Johnson might have won a job.”

    👍

  43. MelvinJunior Says:

Joe – that’s not what he said during his ‘on-field’ interview right after the first-half ended, before heading into the locker-room. When asked about what he thought of Trask’s first-half play, he said something more to the effect that he thought Trask looked “poised” out there (just as he always says), BUT that “TEZ had a lot to do with that,” by picking up yardage after the catch.

  44. MelvinJunior Says:

I thought that comment said A LOT, and was pretty damn sorry.
