Welcome To The Buccaneers Roster, Tez Johnson!
August 23rd, 2025
Tez Johnson looks up at fans after tonight’s first half.
UPDATED: What a bounceback night for Bucs rookie returner/receiver Tez Johnson.
The young man caught all eight targets thrown his way in the first half of the preseason finale against the Bills at The Licht House. Yes, 8-for-8 — for 58 yards and a touchdown. A week ago in Pittsburgh, the seventh-round pick muffed a punt that led to a Steelers score and dropped a pass over the middle that would have been a big play.
After that game, Joe saw Bucs offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard offering words of comfort to Johnson, almost like a dad might after his kid had a rough youth game.
Johnson showed his resilience in the first half tonight. And given that veteran returner/receiver Trey Palmer had just one first-half catch and did not line up for the lone first-half punt return — it went to Kameron Johnson — Joe is confident Johnson has made the Bucs’ 53-man roster.
It’s really no surprise. Bucs coaches and players have been high on Johnson for several weeks.
Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht said on the WFLA-TV broadcast of tonight’s game that his entire front office staff loved Johnson before the draft and said Johnson often was the best player on the field for his University of Oregon team.
Congrats, Tez!

Running like a squirrel. Keep it going Tez!

Tez gonna be alright
He’s an exceptional route runner with good hands
My only concern, was his weight
But he’s productive at his current weight

Fantastic decision by the Bucs. This kid is just gonna get better and better…..

Good for Tez!
8/8 for 58 yards and a TD is a darn good showing.
August 23rd, 2025 at 9:45 pm
Tez scored that TD during the final round of our fantasy draft; so I picked him up with my last pick as a good luck charm

Tez looks electric!

Don’t know how he’s going to do against the big boys when the regular season starts. But it’s clear he has some special sauce. Didn’t believe before the preseason that he should make the roster. Now it’s clear he has earned it, and if we were to cut him he’d be grabbed up in a New York (Tampa?) minute. Here’s hoping he keeps doing it forward.

He played with a chip on his shoulder. Trey Palmer is done. He,as usual, dropped a pass. No need for Palmer on punt return, Josh Williams or Kameron Johnson earned those stripes tonight. Our back up defense is horrible. So passive n soft. Bills bullied them. Same can be said bout our back up offensive line. Ramirez n Watts are done. They can’t hold their ground.

Absolutely. Tez is so dynamic. Apparently he weighs 160 pounds.
It would be great if he could get to 175-180 but who knows.
I think Ryan Miller just made the team.
Seems like Williams should make it, but I don’t know if they carry 4 RBs.
I think Jarrett and Palmer are done. As far as WRs bouncing from practice squad to roster, it looks like Greene and Kam.
Kam was playing himself off the roster early on with two drops (although one was pretty tough) but I think he hits the practice squad ahead of Palmer or Jarret at this point.

Kind of hoping Greene also makes the roster. Has good hands as witnessed by the TD.

tez is bringing the fun…gotta love it…
unless someone really squarely wallops him like a vontaze burfect, he should be okay while honing his nfl skills…
he just needs to really avoid big big hits

greene is interesting……but he seems to be PS imho
August 23rd, 2025 at 10:36 pm
jarrett and kam are seemingly in deep doo
August 23rd, 2025 at 10:37 pm
nah palmer makes the team for now by default…
he can thank godwin X jMac

At Oregon, Tez played in some big moments as well, Hope he makes the final 53, hoping he turns out better than jaelon darden.

Adam….
I would say Jarrett and Palmer are out. Kam may have redeemed himself
But that means Kam & Greene probably practice squad. TEZ and Miller make the team.
I’m wondering what happens with Williams at running back. Do they keep four?

Jarrett is gone but Kam Johnson with the kick/punt returns and strong 2nd half didn’t hurt his chances.
Devin Culp did NOT help himself tonight.

Actually all the returners having a good night actually hurts all them since it makes you think the Bills just sucked in coverage. But Kam is going to the PS I’d assume. Really the only roster question to me is if they keep 6 WRs or 7 WRs (considering Godwin is taking up a roster spot). If they keep 6, then I assume Palmer is getting the boot, as they keep Tez and Miller. Also wouldn’t be shocked if the Bucs are able to trade Palmer for perhaps a 7th – his size speed combo is good and he had a decent rookie team, so someone might be willing to to give up a pick – maybe it’s conditional.

I think williams and tez made the team tonight.

Did anyone hear the JoeBucsFan shout out during the game?

I knew Tez would show out as a receiver once he got some good opportunities.
Glad he’s on the team and hopefully he has some big punt returns in him this year.
Awesome find in the 7th round!

It is really hard not to pull for Tez Johnson, given his background and his connection to Bucky Irving. I really do think the kid has solidified a spot on the 53-man roster and continues to pick up Grizzard’s’ play schemes as well as contribute big time on special teams. Looking forward to the kid contributing to some Buc victories this season.

Oregon ducks! Tez will be another fan favorite like Bucky

Tez is a beast! So impressive. Feeling Grizz is doing well too.
We have a Super Bowl team, for sure!
August 24th, 2025 at 8:57 am
As I pointed out last week, yes, Tez muffed a pass and dropped a pass last week. He also led the team in receptions last week. That’s two weeks in a row!

Rod Munch – considering the Bucs normally keep 5 WRs, I think 7 is a stretch, although I can see why they would want to do it. Someone’s going to get plucked off the practice squad if you don’t keep 7.
Of course, there are other position groups that need to shore up their depth, too, so I don’t see keeping 7 as a reality. In fact, once McMillan is back, another one will be dropped down to the PS and likely picked off by another team.

Why do you think Dez showed he made the team when it was a “worthless preseason game”?

———
It varies by the year, but over the last 5-years or so, on average they keep 6, but they have kept 7 at some points. Last year they kept 5 to start because of injuries elsewhere, and frankly they weren’t concerned about anyone picking a WR off their practice squad (and they were correct).
This year, 6 is the most likely number, but they could go to 7 for a couple of weeks just to see what happens with Godwin, if he looks good once he starts practicing. Palmer is the guy who will get cut, but he might have trade value because of his speed and rookie production (like a 7th – or maybe a 6th for Palmer and a Bucs 7th).
