Jason Licht Talks Chris Godwin And Tristan Wirfs “Football Movements”

August 23rd, 2025

So All-World left tackle Tristan Wirfs and receiver Chris Godwin are injured but will not go on the physically unable to perform list to start the 2025 season.

Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht confirmed that tonight and talked about the decision.

“We think part of their rehab, with these particular injuries, they need to be out there taking some reps getting used to football movements, which will come sooner than later with both of them,” Licht told the Buccaneers Radio Network. “So you never know how these rehabs go. They can be a little quicker than you think, last a little bit longer. But we’re very, very happy where both of them are right now.”

Joe was happy to hear Licht speak on his two injured superstars, and the GM had a little excitement in his voice. However, Joe was a little shaken when Licht dropped the ol’ “you never know.”

If Godwin and Wirfs went on the PUP list, the Bucs would get to use their roster spots but then neither would be able to practice with the team, not even walk-throughs.

Licht is right. Even if Godwin and Wirfs won’t be ready until Week 5, they’ll be a lot better prepared for that game in Seattle with the extra practice time with teammates.

You never know — Is Wirfs still using a cane any part of the week?

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

It also makes Godwin more tempting for a trade.

  3. First Last Says:

Tristan Wirfs was never really “using” the cane. Chris Godwin is probably hiding a lot of his practice too

Thanks Firstlast. I know that Joe said that he was using crutches and then Joe said that he was not using crutches but was using a cane.

For a knee injury, one of the many things that gives us fans how far along a player might be — is when that player stopped using “any” assisted walking devices.

So, First Last, if you know, when was the last day that Wirfs was using any assisted walking devices?

I saw a video of Godwin walking recently, looked fine

Did you catch Licht say Wirfs is a little further ahead in recovery than Godwin? He didn’t want to be held to it. If that translates at all to ‘back by week 4’ that’s a win.

Wirfs was seen talking around without crutches and without a limp – so I wonder, perhaps, if opening day still isn’t out of the question. It’s unlikely to be sure, but superhuman players sometimes have superhuman recovery times.

Munch, Wirfs was seen at the end of the telecast and he was clearly limping.

  9. Ben Says:

Too many injuries to key players and we havent started the season yet. Starting short handed will hurt us, regardless of some depth we have esp since this team can never stay healthy.
