Jacob Parrish Gets “Baller” Endorsement

August 18th, 2025

So in early May, head coach/defensive coordinator Todd Bowles said Bucs rookie cornerback Jacob Parrish could start for just about any NFL team.

Again, that was in May, and Parrish was a third-round pick.

It was an eye-popping endorsement, and Joe is sure Parrish has never made Bowles regret that comment. The young man appears to be a special player, and an elite athlete.

Joe’s glad fans have been getting a chance to see Parrish play through two preseason games. His speed, stickiness and tackling prowess have shown up.

In addition to Bowles’ love, Parrish has it from Lavonte David, the leader of the Bucs defense. David didn’t hesitate talking to Kay Adams two weeks ago when asked what player was popping in the Bucs secondary.

He went right to the rookie.

“Yeah, man, Jacob Parrish. Jacob Parrish going to be a baller,” David said on Up & Adams. “Jacob Parrish is a quiet guy, you know, very quiet, very chill. You know, I was kind of worried. I don’t like people too quiet; I had to open him up a little bit in the meeting room one day.”

David went on to say he likes a feisty, trash-talking cornerback, but Parrish has been talking loudly with his play.

“For him to be out here balling like he is, he already look like a vet,” David said. “I really like him.”

Several minutes later in the show, Adams asked David “if there’s a star I should be looking at” during preseason, “somebody I need to be really keeping my eye on.”

Again, no hesitation from David. “Watch Jacob Parrish,” he said. “He’s going to be a real big player for us.”

we are going to need whatever this kid can bring to the table. The secondary is the position group that we are all most worried about to help our Putrid Pass Defense. Dean is always hurt and Winfield looks like he’s half the player he used to be. Let’s see what Parrish can do for real when it counts. Throw him in there. Go Bucs!!

“Jacob Parrish is a quiet guy, you know, very quiet, very chill. You know I was kind of worried. I don’t like people too quiet”… haha the irony huh.

In JL we trust, another fantastic pick in the draft.
Looking forward to a very productive career in Tampa for Parish.
Love his physical presence and willingness to put a thump against opponents.

    LFG BUCS!!!!

    Fire them CANNONS

  5. Pickgrin Says:

Morrison has been referred to as a 1st rd talent that we got in the 2nd round because of ‘injuries’…. If that turns out to be true – then it looks like the Bucs may have gotten TWO 1st round talents at CB in the 2nd and 3rd rounds… because Parrish has been turning heads and collecting praise for his play since the day he got here.

If not for Egbuka shining so brightly, Parrish would be the star of this year’s rookie class!

    Rookie Article Curse
I hate these types of articles because it too often means the guy is about to get hurt. Pick up a bunch of scrub DB, S, WR, and OT for the last preseason game. Only articles about 3-4th string players until week 1. We need to keep what we have healthy.

  9. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Parrish & Vildor as the nickel & dime backers in our dime package. Stick & twitch

  10. gbobucsfan Says:

    Speed!!

    4.35 – Parrish
    4.30 – Dean
    4.33 – Zion

Hopefully this is the year that the secondary finally brings it all together !!

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Parish this year. Tykee Smith last year……two really good ball hawks.

  12. firethecannons Says:

good! we need some starters from this draft! Not sure what to make of Tez and B-Mo is already hurt so theres that.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

All these injuries, especially on defense, are concerning. Right now I’d guess we’ll keep 6 CB & 4 Safeties …

o CBs: Dean, McCollum, Bryce Hall, Parrish, Morrison, Vildor.
o Safeties: Winfield, Tykee Smith, Izien, Merriweather.

Problem right now is that 3 of them are already hurting. Sure do hope this isn’t indicative of what to expect during the season this year.

  14. Teacherman Says:

    Finally,

God has given us Ronde Barber 2.0.

Ronde was also a 3rd round pick.

    Ronde was also only 5-10.

I think Kancey is our next Sapp too. (Kancey has a wild side! I like it!)

    If Morrison can ball?

    Wow. What a draft.

And who kept calling for 2 corners?

    Teacherman!

  15. SB~LV Says:

    STEAL of the draft!

  16. Durango 95 Says:

Very strong endorsement from a man that knows what he’s talking about..

  17. SenileSenior Says:

No matter who will be our starting CBs I believe I recall Bowles talking about rotations similar to what is done at some other positions. We should have some fresh players in when we need them in our backfield. (Besides emphasizing the killer instinct for the team as a whole.) Can’t wait to see this

    Go Bucs!

  18. Fred McNeil Says:

I have to absolutely agree: Parrish is very impressive. Egbuka seems very, very impressive, but I fully expect that from a first rounder. I’m of the opinion that Morrison is a Dean clone. Very talented, but china doll. I think he will intercept more balls, but Dean is faster. Think Walker is a find, for next year. That 5th round guy, I think his name is Robertson, seems very Hall like. Hall was second round. Tez? IDK yet. But, Parrish, so far…is Izien X two. No offense to Izien. Parrish X two is as solid as the rock of Gibraltar. Parrish is the steal of the draft.

  19. Larrd Says:

Parrish, Zyon, and Tykee are a pretty good group to build on. I am excited to see them all play and like Merriwether okay, too, I guess. The rest of the DBs seem like question marks right now. I hope they get healthy, but Dean, Morrison and Winfield could all be prone to nagging injuries this season. A real bummer Roberts is out!

  20. garro Says:

Cool Joe! I don’t think is one to lay praise on anyone who does not earn it soo… Heck yeah!

    Go Bucs!

  21. unbelievable Says:

Lavonte saying he doesn’t like people who are too quiet is pretty hilarious, considering how much he avoided the media spotlight until the past couple of years of his career…
