Todd Bowles: Not Every Starter Will Play In Pittsburgh
August 11th, 2025
Who will start on Saturday?
Last week Bucs coach Todd Bowles stated starters would get the night off in their first worthless preseason game against the mighty Titans.
Some starters did in fact play and start, guys like SirVocea Dennis and Rachaad White. Yeah, White is sort of a starter.
So today after practice at One Buc Palace — the last practice before the team flies to Pittsburgh for a practice at Carnegie Mellon University Wednesday and a joint practice with the Steelers on Thursday before the Bucs play their second worthless preseason game on Saturday against the Steelers — Bowles was asked if the starters are all full-go for Saturday.
“Some of the guys will play,” Bowles said. “Some of them won’t.”
So, who will play against the Steelers and who won’t? And how much will the starters play at Pittsburgh? Or will they play more in the final worthless preseason game against Buffalo?
“Depends on practice Thursday,” Bowles said, referring to Thursday’s joint practice with the Steelers. “Then it depends how much we can get done, and how much we can get done Saturday.”
Given how Bowles may have been arse chewing in practice today, maybe starters will play quite a bit in the Steel City.

Egbuka, McMillan, and Sterling will start with Baker. That is my guess. Then after 1 drive, or maybe 2, they will bubble wrap them off the field. But I think just enough to get some chemistry will be yuuuge. But I don’t think it will compare to how things will go when people have to scheme against those 2 and Mike Evans

When Braswell is out there, please have him stay on the line and rush the passer and not drop into coverage. Please.

Baker and Bucky should get 1 or 2 series, basically the first quarter. Evans and David should not play preseason at all. OL starters should play first half. Trask should get 2nd and 3rd quarters, unless Bridgewater is ready to take some snaps. Starters on DL and secondary should be yanked after 1 to 1 1/2 quarter.

Of course not.

Hold back on Mike, Bucky, and Vita playing yet. Put in Graham, Teddy, Antoine, Zyon, and some others for short periods. Maybe put Baker in there for a few throws. Somewhat worried about putting Bucky and Mike in yet. The Steelers will go after them on their turf. It may be preseason, but they want it. They also have an underrated rookie to watch out for, Yahya Black-defense. Definitely put Bucky, Vita, and Mike in for the game against the Bills here.

Basically any starter that has the slightest bruise or superstars like AWJr, ME13, LVD so only go in for a series if they feel like it’ll be beneficial
