“It’s Not As Bad As You Think”

July 28th, 2025

Todd Bowles with new offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard.

Interesting endorsement today from Todd Bowles.

The head coach was chattering on CBS Sports HQ after practice with Pete Prisco and shut down Prisco quickly when Prisco posed a question about rookie offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard representing a transition hurdle.

Bowles cited Grizzard having a close relationship with his starting quarterback and familiarity with assistant coaches.

“It’s not as bad as you think,” Bowles said of switching to Grizzard from Liam Coen.

“It’s different. He has different philosophies and wants to tweak some things. It’s not a matter of having 11 guys back, it’s a matter of how we can be better to what we already did. So I think it’s important and Josh brings it to the table, and everybody’s receptive to it.”

Grizzard and edge rusher Haason Reddick still remain the greatest X-factors to the Bucs season, in Joe’s mind. But Emeka Egbuka seems close behind given how special he’s looked in training camp and spring practices.

    Josh Grizzard will be okay

My biggest concern is our Edge Rushers

  2. Usfbucs Says:

I think Grizz will be fine. We might see some mistakes early on because of the pressure but he will settle in.

I think our defensive improvement determines how far we go this year.

Grizzard and Reddick will be fine, it’s the dreaded injury bug that is the X factor. Like every single season. It never stops with this team……

What is that comment?!!! Did we think Grizz was going to be bad? Sounds like Bowles thought Grizz was going to suck. Bowles had Canales’ 32nd rank rushing attack. He knows bad, too.

I was actually excited about the offense … until now.

Its all about our defense , injuries and coaching.. we saw bowles crack under pressure with his coaching decisions. This should be our super bowl year..

    @Deadwood
What we (I) saw was Bowles rally his team after a slump and end the year with 17.5 PPG allowed after the bye and win the conference AGAIN, in spite of devastating injuries.

Grizz is step up from Coen, mark my words. It may take a little time but our offense is going to be more consistent and explosive under Grizz.

I predict our defense will be top 10 AT LEAST, probably top 5 👍🏼

Liam Coen was a trash OC in my opinion

I hope Gone Gator nails it on this take…LFG!!!!

I think Bowles was being sarcastic with the “not as bad as you think” comment. I was really impressed by what he said next: He has different philosophies and wants to tweak some things….it’s a matter of how we can be better at what we already did.” Then “everybody’s receptive to it”. It ain’t rocket surgery and I think this guy will bring consistency to the offense.

Todd’s confidence is great but fact is he is a first time DC and play caller. Tweaks and different Philosophies are what worries me more though. We have all the success from last year and, at least on paper a better defense. If it aint broke don’t fix it comes to mind.

    Go Bucs!

  11. Aqualung Says:

It’s amusing that everyone talks to Mr. Twojobs about his offense, but no one asks him the hard questions about his wretched pass defense, Swiss cheese schemes, awful situational football awareness and turtling at all the wrong times.

35ppg scoring to get to at least 10 wins.

    Go Bucs.

Losing Walker is a big deal.
