“More Wrinkles In The Offense Than You Saw Last Year”
May 26th, 2025So what should Bucs fans expect of their rookie offensive coordinator, Josh Grizzard?
A guy who knows the football version of Grizzard better than most has answered that question.
Joe’s referring to Chase Edmonds, the former Bucs running back (2023 and 2024) who was on injured reserve last season but remained a regular at One Buc Palace. Edmonds also was on the Dolphins in 2022 when Grizzard was there as a protégé of Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel.
Grizzard saw first-hand how an elite offense ran in Miami (2023) before he was hired away by his Tampa Bay predecessor, Liam Coen.
“Intelligence, man. That’s the first thing that you’ll see when you speak to Josh. Just his intelligence for the game, his feel for the game,” Edmonds told The Sick Podcast — Pirate Parlay.
“Yale grad, Ivy League guy, so that validates it. But I think what he’s going to bring to the table, most important, is that because of his experiences with Miami and dealing with a Jaylen Waddle and a Tyreek Hill, in terms of the types of receivers they are — and then being able to implement a different system and seeing kind of how Liam Coen dealt with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin — he’s going to just have unique ways to give people the football.
“And I think that you’ll see a little more wrinkles in the offense than you saw last year. I mean, Liam was already very creative. But to me, I don’t see [Grizzard] missing a beat at all.”
Edmonds went on to emphasize how he thinks Grizzard will be creative in the McDaniel realm but won’t lose sight of execution being the priority on offense.
Joe felt good hearing Edmonds’ take. He’s a sharp, no-nonsense guy who earlier this month was lucky enough to co-host Good Morning Football with Colleen Wolfe.

Very excited for this season. Have a feeling it could be a very special one.

That tends to happen as the offense gets another year older.

The last couple of years Miami has had problems getting Tyreek the ball. Let’s hope he doesn’t have the same issues here

Leftwich also thought he was a genius and would ‘improve’ on the Arians offense by making it his own. Everytime I hear about some guy who gets the genius label, it very rarely works out well. To be fair, the only person that thought Leftwich was a genius was himself, and Grizz has a ton of people giving him that label that don’t share his last name.
But here’s a hint wiz kid … don’t try to prove to everyone how smart you are – because the smartest thing would be to just to keep doing what was working.

Was Edmonds last injury a career-ender?

Love this take! It’s the most excited I’ve been to see what Grizzard has to offer. Talent makes the system work and there’s no question the talent is there. Excited to see what he can do with it. More excited now.

Leftwich was TERRIBLE in AZ. He was terrible here too, Arians and Brady were the lipstick on that pig.
No idea why BA bent over backwards for an average NFL QB who had no business being a coordinator.

@Munch
So you think Grizz should just trot out last year’s “genius” offense?
Let me guess, you were one of the many calling for ole Red to be gifted our HC position last season. 🙄
Going to be fun watching y’all’s hero suck a$s with the Jagoffs for years to come.
Grizz is going to be excellent 👌🏼

I am hopeful the Griz meets expectations. He’s seems to “love ball”. Now, seeing as Liam Coen brought in the Griz, if the Griz is a big success and lasts more than a year, I think Joe would be wise to support the removal of Coen’s face from the Ray Jay urinal cakes and replace it with a plaque of gratitude at the Ray Jay urinals at eye level.

Did Grizzard draw up the play that got Mike his 1000?

Oh now it was working? 😂

Feeling really good about Grizz!

Everyone is pissed at the last two OCs leaving. These new OCs are lucky to have a healthy relatively young QB who has seen it all in his 12 years of pro ball. Yes, NCAA is now officially a Pro League similar to 2nd division Soccer in Europe. I contend Baker makes them look good. But also defenses are kept guessing from year to year. Last years tape is useless for this years opponents. Each new OC brings something new. So the constant turnover is good thing. You can say the opposite about our defense. Nothing changes with Bowles. So a coach such as Peyton who has seen a Bowles defense will slice and dice it way the Broncos did last year. The solution is to hire a new defensive coordinator every year. Bowles can overrule him but at least new ideas cometh.

All this barking about making our top 5 offense better where’s the chatter about changing defensive schemes.

The offense sucked under Leftwich there’s no debate about that.
How much “responsibility” he should shoulder is debateable.
The GOAT was in his final year, you know the stereotypical star who hangs around too long.
BA was the only coach on the Bucs staff who had enough “juice” and cojones to deal with Tommy Superstar.
Is it your contention that Brady had NOTHING to do with the offense that season? Do you honestly believe the GOAT didn’t get whatever he wanted offensively, especially since the HC was also DC, and in his first year.
IE who REALLY had the say about the Bucs offense. A GOAT who won 7SB’s including the last one for the Bucs. Leftwich who inherited an OC position in AZ after the orginal guy was fired during a 3-13 season. A guy who was gifted his position by BA who himself basically ran the offense.
With BA gone Brady’s power increased exponentially! He certainly had MAJOR input into each week’s game plans, told Leftwich his “favorite” plays and was the guy who puilled the trigger on EVERY play.
This is not a defense of Leftwich. It’s just an honest look at why the Bucs offense sucked that year. It started right under center!

Defenses figured out Coen’s dink and dunk offense during the latter half of the season. Changes are absolutely necessary, but not sure young Joshua is truly qualified.

Give me a break, Joe…. coming out of the Yales, Harvards and Princetons does not validate you are a genius. More recently it does validate you are a good DEI candidate or coming from a Legacy family.

Grizz has one job, get ME his 1K, maybe 2, win some games when you need to score

stpetebucsfan – what a stupid take, even for you.
You really think Brady was the one calling the same exact trick play in German just a few plays apart? You really think it’s Brady who was repeatedly calling the same plays over and over again to the point the Ravens players were mocking the play calling – literally saying the Bucs were just running the same plays over and over again out of the same formation. You really think the GOAT Brady is an idiot that has no idea what he’s doing, and the moron who has been out of the league for years was brilliant?
You need to have them up your meds for Alzheimer’s.
