Jalen Ramsey & The Bucs
April 15th, 2025Todd Bowles openly states he’s seeking outside cornerback help, so how could Joe ignore this?
Today, NFL Network reports the Dolphins and seven-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey, 30, are seeking a trade from Miami.
Ramsey isn’t the three-time All-Pro he once was, but he still seems to have plenty of juice in his game.
Yeah, he’s due over $20 million this season, but not only do the Bucs have the cap room, perhaps Miami would be willing to pick up some of Ramsey’s salary as part of a trade. And then there’s the slim chance Miami would swap Ramsey for Jamel Dean if they couldn’t find a straight-up trade partner.
Joe doesn’t know how far Ramsey’s game has slipped but, unlike Dean, he did play every game last season and he does have 10 games of postseason experience and a Rams Super Bowl ring.
Man, Ramsey would be a bold, all-in move to win a Super Bowl. Joe wouldn’t quibble the Bucs exploring this intensely.
April 15th, 2025 at 9:30 am
Was thinking the same thing Joe’s! I think he’d be an upgrade. A motivated Ramsey! I’ll take it!
April 15th, 2025 at 9:34 am
NFL trades are weird. Deebo Samuel was traded for a 5th. He’s 29.
I’ll bet they’d only get a 6th for Ramsey.
April 15th, 2025 at 9:37 am
Ramsey!!! Former FSU Star, Former Jag, a Super Bowl Champ with Rams. Ramsey has one of the top cornerbacks for years now. Heck yeah go get him!! Dean cannot stay healthy and can’t catch interceptions!. Hey Bucs, Go get Ramsey! That would be awesome! Wow what upgrade that would be.
April 15th, 2025 at 9:38 am
If he is an upgrade, it’s because Ramsey has been less injury prone and his availability to play far exceeds Dean’s history of injuries.
April 15th, 2025 at 9:38 am
Only if the Fins picked up a TON of his salary.
April 15th, 2025 at 9:41 am
Think he would want a big raise and extension. I do not think he deserves top cornerback money.
April 15th, 2025 at 9:44 am
Slight hint of Revis in this. Could go either way. Definitely don’t think bucs would be willing to drop 20 mil for the risk.
April 15th, 2025 at 9:45 am
I’m not sure Jalen is the Jalen of old anymore, meaning a pure shutdown corner. He’s still an upgrade over Dean. Depends on what we are asking him to do and the compensation.
April 15th, 2025 at 9:48 am
i like it and i don’t like it….
no yes…….. 🙂
i’m sure he will grow on me if he lands here…
i remember pacing around when we got brady, thinking “how the heck am i gonna root for this guy”
tommy b swayed me quickly…
then again you can’t compare ramsey to brady…
we could use him here tho
April 15th, 2025 at 9:48 am
A picture of Jalen RAmsey and his daddy, how cute
April 15th, 2025 at 9:51 am
At the right price

April 15th, 2025 at 10:01 am
Overrated, overpaid, locker room cancer. There’s a reason he moves around.
April 15th, 2025 at 10:13 am
Yes he would definitely be an upgrade but I think we should definitely try to keep Jamel Dean
April 15th, 2025 at 10:14 am
very unlikely we get him
April 15th, 2025 at 10:15 am
Only as an addition…..we need extra help….so keep Dean. And, would want him cheaper & a later round pick….5 or 6.
This would free us up to go Ilb then S in rounds 1 or 2……or, if the right WR showed up…..grab one.
April 15th, 2025 at 10:18 am
I like the idea of us trading Jamel Dean and the 7th for him. This way even if he costs 20 million in a year if Dean costs 11 we’re really only paying nine more for the upgrade in both talent and health.
April 15th, 2025 at 10:21 am
Absolutely. Just what an aging team needs is another AARP member!!
April 15th, 2025 at 10:22 am
I feel like Jalen Ramsey is Patrick Peterson just a few years later. Both 5th overall picks in the draft – same size//speed ratio.
You wanted them in the beginning and middle of their career.
But once they hit 30, they might be closer to JAG then special.
I think it is a pass. The money too much for JAG.
That was looking at it from a production view.
But the other reason you do not trade for him is the financial aspect.
The 30-year-old already collected a $4MM roster bonus last month, but the remainder of his compensation – including $21.1MM fully locked in – would become the responsibility of his new team in the event of a trade.
And Ramsey is on the books for four more years, at an average of 24 million per year. Ouch.
April 15th, 2025 at 10:26 am
We should trade for him if they eat a lot of the salary and maybe give them a 5th or 6th. All in for the Superbowl baby
April 15th, 2025 at 10:32 am
A gamble for sure. I don’t see putting that kind of money out there for a gamble on a thirty year old corner. I am not sure Jason would go for this one.
Go Bucs!
April 15th, 2025 at 10:37 am
his style, swag and tude just might not fit in with this squad…
he thinks he’s the meng…
if he comes here, big vita and tristan will have to haze his azz upon arrival 🙂
April 15th, 2025 at 10:37 am
sounds unaffordable tho if he’s really on the books for another 100 mil
April 15th, 2025 at 10:38 am
if there’s such thing as a “diva corner”…it would be this guy
April 15th, 2025 at 10:44 am
Trust Jason. Have a bourbon.
April 15th, 2025 at 10:55 am
no
April 15th, 2025 at 10:56 am
Thank you adam from ny.
I like some of Ramsey’s swagger, I think we are missing some of that on this team…and his talent is undeniable, but we have really no one to counter it on this team, like a Tom Brady, basically someone to tell him STFU, because this team will frustrate him, and I can see him getting mouthy when things are going the Bucs way. His whole backing the brinks truck up stunt in JAX was just a dick move. I dunno, doesn’t strike me as a team guy.
April 15th, 2025 at 10:58 am
better than dean for sure
April 15th, 2025 at 11:17 am
Ideally, Id like us to keep Dean. This would make our CB room fantastic. Between Dean, Ramsey & McCollum
April 15th, 2025 at 11:36 am
“but not only do the Bucs have the cap room”
No, they really don’t. That money will be going to Otton, McCollum and Goedeke to resign. These three will eat up most if not all of the cap space.
April 15th, 2025 at 11:37 am
Maybe a little calmer Ramsey as he gets a older, Yes!! Let’s Go!!!
April 15th, 2025 at 11:37 am
No. Don’t want a slightly over the hill CB that his own team doesn’t think he has the juice anymore. At $14 mil a season, he’d be overpaid by $9mil.
Pass.
April 15th, 2025 at 11:39 am
SOUNDS GREAT. YES DO IT.
Also it seems like something Licht would never do so I have no hope
April 15th, 2025 at 11:46 am
PFF had Ramsey as the 10th best Corner in 2024. Miami had him rushing QB’s twice as many times as he has ever done in a season and got 12 pressures, one sack, and 4 batted balls.
For the money Phiily had two in the top ten w/ DeJean (1) and Mitchell (8) who were both Rookies thru the draft, and at a combined cost of less than 4 million.
Philly will have a 5th year option on Mitchell but DeJean will be able to get deeper into their pockets a little sooner.
A couple of the Leagues best going against a Couple of the leagues best might get the Bucs/Philly game in a Prime Time Slot.
April 15th, 2025 at 11:58 am
I’d give them our 3rd string RB and a 7th.
April 15th, 2025 at 11:59 am
Can he cover off the ball 15 yards on 3rd and 6?
Asking for a friend.
April 15th, 2025 at 12:00 pm
@Zoo :
yeah i can’t see this move really happening…too risky and expensive…
but yeah that’s why i mentioned dude would need a hazing initiation or something…
someone would have to put him in his place upon arrival or something, or duke will quickly run amuck
April 15th, 2025 at 12:04 pm
Ramsey is a dog, if I was the Bucs GM I’ll do it in a heartbeat. A 4th rounder should be enough.
April 15th, 2025 at 12:06 pm
unless you’re looking for a star power signing…and some teams just do need to bring star power in sometimes – to excite a fanbase or something…
you pass on this guy,,,
our coach is kind of like a secondary specialist…and look how we did last year getting tykee…and mccollum…etc…etc…over the years…
let him try to pull a shining star out of the college rankings in the early rounds and mold the dude……as opposed to diva ramsey who most likely will somehow have to be kept in line as to not upset the locker room applecart
April 15th, 2025 at 12:09 pm
Draft a couple CBs. JR has played his best football all ready.
April 15th, 2025 at 12:16 pm
2 old 2 expensive
April 15th, 2025 at 12:25 pm
After a solid 5 minutes of research on Pro Football Reference, I’ve got a modicum of confidence that, of the 60 players who played regular season NFL snaps for the Bucs and Jags, and the 67 who did so for the Bucs and Dolphins, none of them played for all three teams. If you include his college time at Florida State (very tongue-in-cheekily), a case could be made that he would be the only one who played on four different Florida professional football teams.
April 15th, 2025 at 12:44 pm
Let’s be perfectly honest, Jamel Dean is with us for one more season and then he will be lost as a free agent. Based on his injury history he’s at most likely to play 12 games this year. I think if we can pull off a trade giving him to Ramsey maybe even straight up since the cost of the two contracts are so different maybe Miami would bite as it would free up cap space for them. In our case it would give us a corner who probably has two or three good years left and is much better corner than Jamel Dean.
April 15th, 2025 at 12:47 pm
I guess I am not understanding why Miami has had a few different players wanting trades, then change their minds, and then mutually agree to remain with them. McDaniels seems like a great coach to work for. Not getting it. Maybe due to lack of other strong leadership, disorganization. Jalen has been a good player like Hill, however let other teams go after him.
April 15th, 2025 at 1:10 pm
That was exactly what I was thinking, “BucDawg!”
April 15th, 2025 at 1:19 pm
Ramsey used to be a really good CB. Now he’s just a good 32 year old CB that’s way over priced. No way Jason goes there.

THIS season’s salary isnt the only issue…
“Ramsey signed a three-year extension with the Dolphins before the 2024 season, but the first new year of the deal is not until 2026 so he is under contract through the 2028”
April 15th, 2025 at 1:45 pm
Licht doesn’t do those trades anymore. Maybe if he’s released and is signed on the cheap to play for a contender. Bucs get better through the draft … GO BUCS!!
April 15th, 2025 at 1:45 pm
@Cassie
And 12.3M in dead cap in 2029 according to Overthecap. Easy pass unless he gets released and you can sign him to a short term deal
April 15th, 2025 at 2:11 pm
@Jon Sinclear
Well as long as this AARP team keeps winning that’s all that matters no matter how old they are.
April 15th, 2025 at 2:23 pm
Jalen Ramsey on the trade block is newsworthy, but at 31 with a hefty salary and injury history, the cost outweighs the return—especially in a Todd Bowles Cover 3 system that demands range and fluidity from its DBs.
A smarter play? Sign veteran slot corner Mike Hilton. He’s 31 as well but comes cheaper, brings high football IQ, and fits the scheme. Then slide Tykee Smith—who already has experience at safety and has shown strong instincts—into a full-time safety role to maximize his versatility.
Round it out by drafting a developmental corner like Cal’s Nohl Williams in the 3rd or 4th. Long, competitive, and built for zone—he’s the type of player you grow within the system.
April 15th, 2025 at 2:30 pm
Initially, I was high on Iowa’s Darien Porter as a developmental corner—elite speed, raw upside, and special teams value. But with talk he could go as early as the top of the 2nd round, that value starts to slip—especially when compared to the caliber of players likely to be available at other positions of need.
April 15th, 2025 at 2:40 pm
“swap Ramsey for Jamel Dean”
Sounds like a good idea – UNTIL you take a look at Ramsey’s latest contract #s which just recently got redone….
2025 is no problem with 31 y.o. Ramsey’s cap hit only sitting at $16.5M
But THEN….
2026 – $25M cap hit (age 32)
2027 – $26.8M cap hit (age 33)
2028 – $36.16M cap hit (age 34!)
There’s also $12.3M spread over 3 dummy years tacked on to the end but that would be the Dolphin’s responsibility to cover….
No way to make that work. The Dolphins grossly over paid on Ramsey’s latest contract re-do (in order to gain significant cap space I assume) – so unless Ramsey were to agree to scrap the old deal and sign here for something more reasonable (why would he?) – or unless the Dolphins agreed to pay for a substantial % of what Ramsey is owed as part of a trade – it’s not happening….
April 15th, 2025 at 4:25 pm
Well said, Pickgrin. That’s the kind of level-headed, detail-driven analysis that keeps the conversation grounded. On paper, a Ramsey-for-Dean swap might sound intriguing—but once you dig into those contract numbers, the reality sets in quick. Just not a feasible move without major financial concessions.
April 15th, 2025 at 5:03 pm
Too much secondary talent in this draft coming up.Can’t afford to bring in an old expensive guy .
April 15th, 2025 at 5:19 pm
I would wonder why the fins are willing to get rid of him. Toxicity?
April 15th, 2025 at 5:24 pm
Pickgrin and LUV
I need a lesson on the cap. You’ve detailed the long term consequences very well Pick and so this seems to be a hard pass, unless there is some way to rig the books.
But I have a question. Not just in this case but overall. If a guy like Reddick or any multi million talent is willing to take a prove it contract which includes beaucoup bonus for benchmarks money how is that figured into the cap?
IE. If a guy signs for 10 million guaranteed which goes against the cap, what happens to the benchmark money. What happens if he picks up another five million in production bonuses?
Does that get added to the Bucs cap retroactively?
April 15th, 2025 at 5:50 pm
spbf –
$ tied to incentives slides into and is deducted from the following year’s cap.
In the case of Reddick – he has $12M Guaranteed. $2M salary and he got $10M up front in the form of a “Roster Bonus”. There’s also an additional “bonus” he earns on a per game basis – $117, 647 per game that he is “active”. 10 Games of that bonus ($1.176M) has already been added to this year’s cap #. If he plays more than 10 games – the rest will be deducted from next year’s cap.
April 15th, 2025 at 5:51 pm
So we’re going to pay Jamel Dean $13 million to sit on the bench?
April 15th, 2025 at 6:11 pm
There’s a reason he goes from team to team to team and I’m sure it’s not a good reason
April 15th, 2025 at 6:23 pm
Don’t forget
Ramsey was also a safety.
Whitehead is just as unreliable.
He could also play sub lb in nickel w LVD and cover TEs also
April 15th, 2025 at 6:24 pm
So many seemingly smart Bucs fans in here but you can’t war game the obvious answer.
Dean out at corner, Will Gholston in.
Productivity will be the same at a 10th the investment.
You’re welcome.
April 15th, 2025 at 6:40 pm
NO thank you.
April 15th, 2025 at 9:26 pm
No.
April 15th, 2025 at 10:58 pm
Don’t see Coach Bowles and the front office getting involved with Ramsey. Don’t see him fitting in with the team. That’s the key word, team. Don’t see the justification of the payroll expense. Even if Miami was willing to eat part of Ramsey’s salary, it wouldn’t be that much. Miami is most likely stuck with him. No thanks. We need more teammates like Godwin, Evans, and David. Not a rolling stone.
April 15th, 2025 at 11:14 pm
Dude was a beast in his prime but I’d be concerned with what baggage he brings into the locker room. He wasn’t coy about wanting out of Jax. He gave up on Jax to chase a bigger market as best I recall. Kinda like Devon but unlike Decon, Ramsey could play.
April 15th, 2025 at 11:50 pm
Ramsey is not that good anymore, there’s a reason Miami would consider giving him away – and if he was traded, it would be for very little. If Miami ate like half his salary, and the cost wasn’t more than a 5th or 6th, then of course, go for it, but I don’t see that happening – at least the salary part.
April 18th, 2025 at 5:19 am
Hard pass.
