Could Bucs have a Randy Moss-like sleeper on roster?
A lot of folks, Joe included, think the biggest question mark with the Bucs this season is Josh Grizzard.
The first-time playcaller taking over the offense has a ton of pressure on him while he’s learning on the fly. He has a loaded offense on a team hungry to make a playoff run.
How will Grizzard do?
An underrated question is second-year receiver Jalen McMillan.
The Bucs’ media relations team sent out a season-ending list of stats and interesting team nuggets, and here is an excerpt from a section highlighting McMillan’s rookie accomplishments.
• Jalen McMillan logged five straight games with at least one score, collecting seven touchdown receptions during that stretch, and recording 50+ receiving yards in each of those contests, as well. His five straight games with a receiving touchdown is tied for the second-longest streak by a rookie in NFL history, trailing only Hall of Famer Randy Moss (six).
• McMillan and Moss are the only rookies in league history with 50+ receiving yards and a receiving touchdown in five-or-more consecutive contests.
McMillan started the season with a bang with a touchdown catch in Week 1. He was largely a rumor after that (he did miss four games in a seven-game stretch with injuries) until Week 14. That’s when McMillan had a pair of touchdown catches facing the Raiders, sparking an impressive finish to the season.
That’s when McMillan went nuts with Moss-like numbers. Wow.
So Joe wonders what the Bucs drafting Emeka Egbuka did for McMillan’s confidence? Can McMillan block out the drafting of Egbuka and put it behind him and ball out?
If McMillan is the same guy who played lights out in the final five games of the 2024 season, this Bucs offense could totally roast defenses.

McMillan will outplay Meka this season. After that, who knows? But with a successful season under his belt he is more prepared to play now than Meka.

McMillan is our 4th best WR…. comparisons to Randy Moss seem a bit premature….
It is no exaggeration to say the 2025 Buccaneers have a literal EMBARRASSMENT OF RICHES for receiving options – Evans, Godwin, Egbuka, McMillan, Bucky, White, Otten….
Should be a fun year for Bucs fans…….

Once Chris gets back out there, I hope all four of them are uncoverable. Throw Tez out there for some gadget plays.
Remember the Rams in the late 90s early 2000s, they had three really good receiver + Faulk. Gave defenses fits. The Bucs defense was one of the few that could slow them down

I think the Bucs see the importance of having at least two great receivers. Mike and Godwin may be near their end. We may think of McMillan/Egbuka in the future the way we think of Evans/Godwin now. Those two could outlast even Baker. And in the immediate, we should win a lot of games. Also, with us this close, covering ourselves in case of injuries. Lets GO!!!!!

Egbuka was a draft for the future. At some point it’s going to be Egbuka and McMillan as WR1 and WR2, not necessarily in that order. There are enough balls to go around to all 4 of our killer receivers! If the running game takes off like it did last year, there will be open receivers. Oh, and don’t forget the TEs. Jeeez, I don’t think most folks outside Bucs Nation, appreciate what this offence is capable of. IF (a) they deliver as advertised, (b) injuries are minimal this year, and (c) Grizz can keep the offense humming

Love JMac, but there’s nothing about his game that reminds me of Randy Miss. that’s too much pressure. Will be looking for more from him this year, but a statistical comparisons aside, need to see JMac take the next step this season, especially taking care of his body each week to make sure he’s AVAILABLE.

White Tigre, the stats reflect production, not style. I too think Moss was a much more polished and athletic receiver than McMillan, but you can’t argue with the rookie numbers.

Moss was literally the best WR in the league, possibly of all-time, immediately in Week 1 of his rookie season. Anyone else remember that game?
McMillan had a strong end to the season, but let’s significantly lower expectations here. He’s the #4 receiver on this team. He also showed some bonehead moments last season that drew unnecessary penalties and showed signs of immaturity. Let’s see how he responds to EE’s arrival before we go all in here.

Been telling y’all since early last year… J-Mac is our future 1 or 2. In the meantime (while Mike and Chris are still here) he’ll be a VERY valuable 3 or 4.

Randy Moss was great. Few are really comparable to him. It is nice that McMillan had a little something to compare. I am hoping he will become another star for us.
