Penn And McCoy Signings, Price On Rah’s Mind

July 31st, 2010

Joe’s back from the absolutely packed house training camp where the Bucs cheerleaders were exceptionally active, frisky, bubbly, bouncy, extraordinarily sweaty and working the crowd in a huge way.

Pictures are forthcoming.

Of course, it also was great to see the Bucs make the Donald Penn and Gerald McCoy signings official, so reported the St. Pete Times, home of The Mad Twitterer.

Sleepless general manager Mark Dominik announced that the Bucs have signed left tackle Donald Penn and reached an agreement with first-round pick Gerald McCoy.

Penn, who arrived in Tampa on the red-eye from Los Angeles Saturday morning, signed a 6-year deal believed to be worth $48-million and includes nearly $20-million guaranteed. He joined his teammates at practice Saturday 15 minutes after the announcement.

Penn was at camp and spent a lot of time working away from his teammates one-on-one with the Bucs conditioning coach. Penn looked quite fit in a now-I’m-only-a-chubby-325-pounds kind of way. Penn was with his teammates later in practice but did not appear to participate in any contact work.

Speaking on 620 WDAE-AM after practice, Raheem The Dream said he was eager to find out how soon he could get McCoy on the field.

Clearly, Raheem The Dream was a bit obsessed with Brian Price today, getting in his face a couple of times for good and bad. And Price drew Raheem The Dream to a near chest bump when Price got great penetration and busted up a run play quickly in the backfield.

“Nice job, B.P.” was screamed by the head coach at full volume.

Price looks very quick, through Joe’s eyes, and Price also seemed to be feeling the heat (as in weather) more than most.

Go bucs, good to see the glazers are getting out the check book… now lets get ruud his extension!!!

  2. Javier n Wimauma Says:

Errrh, um, perhaps BP may not be the most ideal nickname for price.

How about, ‘The Price is Right Biotch’

  3. Radio Mushmouth Says:

Penn earned every penny!! This signing was huge step in the right direction, and for the protection of our most valuable commodity, Josh Freeman!

  4. Capt.Tim Says:

Ok, gentleman it’s a great day to be Pirate! Now comes the point where Slow squad and Koolaide Krewe will be much more in agreement- Wondering if Raheem Morris can coach them. I knew the Glazers would do their part( they aren’t done yet!). I was confident Mark Dominnick would get his part done( he’s looking smarter every day!). Now comes the part that neitherI, not Eric, nor JImBuc, nor anyone else can be sure of ! Can Raheem Morris Coach these Guys! Management has loaded his Cannons. And they are looking to add depth rapidly. Management had originally thought this was another Rebuilding year. Now, after reviewing offseason tapes, they believe this team may be better than anticipated! I really hope so! I wonder . . On that running play Mr. Price blew up today- was that over our highly reguarded Mr. Joseph? Jus asking! Wishing you all a great football Season- GO BUCS!!

  5. JimBuc Says:

Hey, did anyone see Wells Fargo or Wachovia out at training camp? Trying to figure out where the “broke” and “cheap” Glazers got that $100 million they spent today (about $50 mil guaranteed)

How about Mike Lombardi (you know the Gruden fan that wrote yesterday that the Bucs should trade Penn because they were not going to pay him?). Maybe Lombardi was standing around talking with Dom– the GM he said did not have access to the money that was paid to Penn and McCoy today?

Just kidding. Happy its all done with. Excited for new season.

  6. BigMacAttack Says:

They got the $100 Mil from Man U playing the MLS Allstars in the US. Now they are robbing Paul to pay Peter. And this will give the Limeys something else to hate them for.

  7. BigMacAttack Says:

Mushy, that’s the most intelligent thing you’ve said in months. Let’s see if you can piss Steve White off again. That was quite entertaining.

  8. jlynch Says:

The headline should have read…. Price on Morris’s head!!! Dont call him BP oil spill remember Rah???

  9. eric Says:

Now if we can just get the league to allow the bucs to play with themselves all season………………….we are in business!

  10. Radio Mushmouth Says:

Why are you so excited JimBuc and Capt. Tim ??

According to Steven Campbell’s article , the STATS say that Penn is an overrated terrible LT….middle of the pack at best. You both said I was stupid for questioning his STATS.

If I was wrong , we severly over-paid for a player who is barely average… and we did it in a year with no CBA , no less. We weren’t supposed to spend with the CBA uncertain, JimBuc said so.

    Terrible move !!!!
    LOL

  11. Patrick Says:

    Great move signing Penn!!!

Now let’s extend Ruud, Jackson, and Joseph’s contracts!!!

  12. Capt.Tim Says:

Oh, there you are Eric! Saw your early prediction for this year. 0-3 wins for the season. So you think we’ll be WORSE than last year! Interesting! No wonder you are so bitter! You really do think things are in the tank!

  13. JimBuc Says:

MushFace — still lying I see. Can you show me where I said you were stupid for questioning his stats? I said that when you were confronted with conrary stats you said “stats were for losers” but when they supported you you relied on them.

  14. eric Says:

    Jimbuc,

The point is that u will support management if they sign Penn, or dont sign Penn, or trade penn, or just about anything they would have done with Penn.

So, when the bad stats were presented on Penn you used them to support their not offering him a K. Now that he signed they are meaningless.

You are the one in the land of contradictions.

They signed Penn, it’s very good news.

  15. d-money Says:

I for one will not disregard the stats. Penn has been an average LT at best.

I’m glad they signed both guys because I think it proves that they are not as cheap as everyone says they are but i think they way overpaid Penn.

Lets hope it doesn’t come back to haunt them in a couple of years.

  16. Lakeland Bob Says:

Mush-you and Thomas and others bitched about the Glazers being to damn cheap to sign Penn,so what happens when they sign him.You change your tune and try to excuse everything because Steve Campbell wrote an article stating Penn was over rated. What a crock of sh_t.Instead of manning up and giving the Glazers credit for the signing, you would rather take the coward’s way out and place the blame on somebody else.

And by the way,it looks like your wasted second round draft choice was pretty impressive today

EXACTLY!! Eric pretty much summed this up prefectly.

You were so quick to throw Penn under the bus when the common percepetion was that Penn would hold out. Now you praise the signing when it’s clear Penn will be around. In other words; no matter what management does , you will defend it as being correct.

LOL , You are a joke , and you have no credibility.

  18. Radio Mushmouth Says:

Lakeland Bob …I did give the glazers credit in other posts. It was a great move to pay Penn the money he earned. I never wavered on how good a player I thought Penn was , and the fact that we should sign him. It was the Kool-aid drinkers that threw him under the Bus as soon as they thought management was going to refuse to pay him.

Right now I am just busting JimBuc’s chops , like I always do. ( and having a good time doing it , I might add )

  19. Radio Mushmouth Says:

Also Lakeland Bob : I said Steven Campbell was a fool, and his stats must be flawed if he thinks Penn is not a solid Tackle…. to which JimBuc and Capt. Tim called me an idiot.

    Look it up.

  20. Capt.Tim Says:

Mushy, I never said anything bad about Penn! And stated Campbells article left out a lot of Facts. and I never called you an idiot( on that post, hehe). My only statements to you were when you began the ” I love Gruden speech “again

  21. Lakeland Bob Says:

Mush-this was your post when Joe first broke the Penn story. Radio Mushmouth Says:

    July 30th, 2010 at 8:35 pm
This is terrible news , considering it has already been determined by JimBuc and the other Kool-aid drinkers that Donald Penn SUCKS.

I was called an idiot for suggesting otherwise. Penn sucks, so this was a total waste of money …hehehehe

Show me the post where you gave the Glazers credit for the signing because I can’t find it.
