Scotty Miller’s New Talent

January 16th, 2022

New talent.

One of the greatest plays in Bucs history, if not one of the greatest plays in Tampa Bay sports history, was in the NFC Championship game last year when Scotty Miller caught a bomb from Tom Brady in the final seconds of the first half. It proved to be the winning touchdown.

Had that touchdown never happened, the Bucs likely lose and never make it to the Super Bowl.

Since that play, Miller hasn’t done anything in the passing game. Granted, Miller missed quite a bit of time with a turf toe injury. But when the Bucs started pulling guys off the street and giving them reps over Miller, Joe wondered how much he was paying to rent that room in Bruce Arians’ doghouse.

Today, Miller helped force a fumble by Philly fan favorite Jalon Reagor on a Bucs punt. No, Reagor didn’t field the punt cleanly, but Miller’s shot to Reagor’s ribs ensured a fumble.

This is the second major play Miller has made this season on punt coverage. The first was when he recovered a fumble at Indianapolis that set up a Bucs touchdown in a very close win.

After the game, Arians said that if it was up to him, he never would have played Miller on punt teams but Arians is damn happy he delegated authority to special teams coach Keith Armstrong.

“I thought special teams played best of the year,” Arians said. “I was very apprehensive about [Miller] being a gunner with his size. But he has turned out to be a helluva gunner.”

Hey, if you can make plays you will find job security. And now Miller has been a part of two takeaways on punt team in his first season as a gunner. In Joe’s eyes, that’s production.

Miller needs to give us offense! Last year he gave us some plays. We need that desperately right now.

  2. firethecannons Says:

Joe the ball came out of Reagor’s arms which would not been a big deal as he could of just scooped it up and proceeded but Millers tackle was such that it purposefully took Reagor out of position to be able to retrieve it. Honestly Miller has a brain which processes information ultrafast and he is making plays as a result.

  3. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Scotty knows.

  4. cmurda Says:

Cowboys will win this game because Jimmy G is a pathetic excuse for a QB. He’s so terrible. All you have to do is not miss your receiver by 2 miles and throw a pick. You are terrible in every aspect Jimmy G yet the 9ers are winning because of an elite effort on D so far. I just don’t think it will last. Jimmy G always blows chunks.

  5. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

We do not need Miller desperately please stop the foolishness!

  6. cmurda Says:

That was a crazy play on special teams by Miller though. That was a big play

  7. rrsrq Says:

Desperately, seriously. The Bucs just won their 14th game of the season and Scotty has one touchdown on offense. Scotty is a luxury, not desperation

  8. cmurda Says:

Delay of game. Thats weak as hell. Qb sneak up the middle. Terrible job of coaching. Playing to not lose and the 9ers are going to do just that. You don’t give the ball back to Dak. You get 1 freaking yard. That’s weak as heck Shannahan. Weak coach.

  9. cmurda Says:

Already in 9er territory. Shannahan sucks as a coach. 1000%. A QB sneak is more likely than stopping Dak right now. Shannahan can’t win games that matter. If the 9ers somehow win, it will be in spite of their coach not because of.

  10. Derek Says:

    Agreed @cmurda

  11. cmurda Says:

I will tip my cap to Shannahan for being smart enough to decline the 3rd down penalty and bringing up 4th and 11. They are so lucky that Wilson did not adjust well. That was at least a big play if not a TD. The 9ers need a first down. I would make sure even throw it to get the 1st. I wouldn’t just let the Boys take their timeouts and let them get the ball again. What? Did this game basically end on another defensive hold and it was the right call. Wow. They aren’t going to have much time now if any.

  12. JimmyJack Says:

After watching this Cowboys/49ers game its a shame the Cowboys didnt win. We would have whipped them up and down the field.

  13. cmurda Says:

I think we match up well with Arizona but we know how the Rams have been tough for us.

  14. Francisco Guzman Says:

Whoever they play i feel the bucs will need 24 plus to win the game. They also need a fast start. They tend to play better when they get a fast start.

  15. cmurda Says:

The Nickelodeon telecast is way more exciting. With that said, the girl has a super screechy voice. A little tough to listen to.

  16. Jmarkbuc Says:

I don’t wanna chase Kyler Murray all over. Stafford throws bad picks and can be rattled.

Dean catches that interception in LA, we might have shook him good.

  17. Jmarkbuc Says:

How many lives does Dallas have?

  18. cmurda Says:

That’s hysterical. The 9ers are not good but Dallas may still lose to them. They found a way not to finish the game again. My goodness. The 9ers offense is terrible. Why do I get the feeling that this game isn’t over. This is bad coaching for Dallas to have a shot.

  19. Listnfrmafar Says:

    Scotty is baby Gronk

  20. cmurda Says:

In range for a bomb to the endzone. The failures of the 9ers make me believe the TD is possible

  21. JimmyJack Says:

Neither one of these teams look like they wanna win this here at the end

  22. cmurda Says:

What a crazy ending. That was sus. The Cowgirl faithful is going to be crying hardcore.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

I want to see a riot in Dallas — Burn down the building, then if the SB is moved, it can be moved to Tampa!

  24. mark2001 Says:

    Cowboy bonehead move. Bizarre.

  25. Rod Munch Says:

Watching the overhead replay, the Dallas Dummies can’t even complain about it, those are the rules, the refs didn’t impede the play.

  26. Coburn Says:

That was bizarre. Linemen just blocking the ref. Stupid to run it there though

  27. mark2001 Says:

As Romo said. He should have handed the ball to the ref to spot it. Just a foolish move .

  28. Rod Munch Says:

Alright everyone, things are going perfectly so far, now let’s just have the Cards beat the Rams, and it’s a perfect weekend! The Rams are the team the Bucs really don’t want to play again, just a bad matchup, and while the Cards will not be an easy matchup, at least it’s not a bad matchup.

  29. cmurda Says:

True Mark. Why wouldn’t you literally hand it to the ref. Ref tried to hustle. It is what it is. I think it was foolish to squeeze in that play. You throw a quick sideline route and go out. The 9ers were still defending the end zone. It still would have been unlikely for the TD anyway. I’m happy to see Big D suck D in the playoffs.

  30. cmurda Says:

    Yup. Agreed Rod. Totally

  31. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

    He’s clutch.

  32. cmurda Says:

Surprise pick of the week is the Steelers over the Chiefs

  33. Francisco Guzman Says:

Rod Munch i don’t wanna hear about matchups. Rams haven’t played well in a long time. They can’t make Stafford look great again. They likely get the rams and those wideouts are gonna have to step up. They can’t depend on evans and just gronk!!!!!

  34. cmurda Says:

    Nah. I’m j/k. What a terrible game

  35. A Real American Says:

    Scotty! We need more power!

  36. gp Says:

Rams or cards… Short week and cross country travel…
    I’ll take that!

  37. BradyBucs Says:

    Francisco,

You don’t know football if you don’t recognize that Rod is 100% correct. The Rams are just a TERRIBLE match-up for the Bucs.

  38. stpetebucsfan Says:

“Shannahan sucks as a coach. 1000%”

If you’re going to shoot for metaphoric hyperbole why hold back…say he sucks a million %.

Perhaps…he’s had a couple of bad seasons but in five years he’s been to the Conference Championship once already with a shot at another.

Remember the old Bucs. Would we have hired a coach who sucks if we knew that 40% of the time he would get us to the NFC Championship…he’s got 20% in the bag and is one win away from 40% and then perhaps beyond.

A Brady-Garrapolo showdown in an NFC title game to go to the SB would be a huge media draw…perhaps not as much as Brady versus BB earlier but it would bring some eyeballs with the storyline! Mentor versus protege.

  39. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Do you dopes realize whoever wins TOMORROW night, will have one less day to recoup and will be flying across the country to take on our Bucs? I am thrilled. We’re better than both those teams. Stafford played out his A@s the last time we played them. Stafford is 0-3 in the playoffs and is a choker all day. We’ll beat the Rams here next weekend, if they can beat the Cards.

  40. lambeau Says:

Perriman can’t catch, which keeps getting him cut; I prefer Scotty as WR3.

  41. Miller5252 Says:

Now that he’s healthy, and looking extremely fast, why don’t they let him return kickoffs and punts? He’s gotta be better then what we got back there, he doesn’t know why it’s bad just to run left and right

    ________

I agree with that Fancy Man.
McVay and Payton have our number.

I’ll add, that I didn’t want to play the Cowboys again either.
We were lucky to beat them in Wk 1.

    Cards
    Niners
    Packers

    No problem.

  43. Beeej Says:

Anytime a Cowboys fan blathers on about all the championships they’ve won, ask them to get out their VCR so they can show them

  44. Coburn Says:

Lmao beej. Yeah it’s been a. Long time since they’ve won any meaningful games

  45. John Collins Says:

There was a camera on Miller as he ran down the field with reckless abandon to make a huge timely play that’s winners do

  46. Ash Says:

Miller is stupid fast feel bad since his injury he has kinda been forgotten what a player to still find a way to impact the game

  47. Tackleblockwin Says:

Much rather play the Cards, but if we play the Rams and beat them, well that would be just fine with me. Been waiting a long time to beat them in playoffs.

  48. Rod Munch Says:

Good on Scotty doing whatever is needed to make plays.

If we get some better weather next week, the Bucs need to get him a shot or two deep as a reward.

  49. bucs Says:

can he play corner? he’s quick just tackle the knees

  50. Bobby Joe Says:

With the running back situation the way it is Scotty Miller would make one heck of a nice running back.
He has speed and the ability to catch the ball coming out of the back field. I think BA needs to look at using Scotty on third downs more often.
    Go Bucs

  51. Mark Walmsley Says:

Use Scotty Miller more on the deep ball he can do it

  52. Bob Davis Says:

Using Scotty is an absolute must from here on out. He’s one of the fastest white guys in the league. He’s not afraid to put his 174 pound body on the line. Also, he believes in himself. If the game is on the line and the ball is flying his way he’s going to find a way to catch it. Go Scotty and go Bucs!
