Return Of Bucco Bruce

Yesterday when Bucs COO Brian Ford had a Zoom conference call to discuss the training camp plans for fans next month, he was asked about alternative uniforms. And not the all-pewter things.
Ford explained the team held back on throwbacks because the NFL had a rule (which Team Glazer has lobbied to have overturned) that says teams can only use one helmet in a full season.
Ford said it wasn’t a matter of if the rule is changed, it’s when. Joe has a hunch Ford knew more than he let on. Shortly after Ford’s press conference, the NFL announced teams could use two different helmets in a season beginning in 2022.
What does this mean? It means Bucco Bruce is coming back shortly.
Yes, expect the beloved creamsicles to return next year. And how cool will it be to see Tom Brady wearing one?
Joe cannot wait. Well, on second thought, yeah, Joe can. There’s another Super Bowl to be won for the 2021 season. Even without the creamsicles.

According to Mike Florio at PFT, the team likely won’t be able to use the throwbacks until 2023.

Please, don’t do it! I’ve been a fan since season-1 and know that winning seasons have been hard enough to come by without putting on those popsicle uni’s again.

Losing is a personal mentality, not the clothes you wear. These unis are beautiful and my memories of them are 79-82. Winners!, not the bennett/vinny years.

Expansion was so different when the Bucs and Seahawks joined the league. They were always going to suck, record-wise but those unis caught the attention of this 10 year old kid and I’ll never forget becoming an nfl fan watching the Selmon brothers and then Doug Williams, Giles, Wilder, Bell and the list goes on.
Bring on the creamsicles and pair them up with a Bromosa Tangerine and some Hooters wings and let the “alarm clocks” continue the fade into a distant memory.

I had a Steve Spurrier creamsicle made a few years ago as a nod to season 1 and all of the pain that followed. Kind of saying “Been there since season 1 and every painful season since”

how cool would it be to have 2 helmets, old and new, with an orange color rush uniform. I would Love an all orange color rush uni, even though i’m not a huge fan of the creamsicle jersey.

Please, no! Lot of people don’t know or forget that we were the laughingstock of the NFL. We were always made fun of those hideous colors and logo it was associated with losing we have awesome colors in our uniform, now what the hell change it for Cream sickles hell no!

I dislike the cream uniform and I think we look like wimps is them. The only thing I could think of that could be worse is if they put us in pink.
It dont bother me to see it for just a game or two but I am very thankful these uniforms are only throwbacks……As much as I love the Bucs those uniforms always embarassed me when they were our weekly costumes.

So have the decal changed on the one helmet. Glazer just pouting cause it would cost a little bit of money to change the one helmet to old school for a week then change that same helmet back. Can’t be that hard right ? Or are they just pouting because they arnt getting there way JOE ??

Nostalgia is all it is. It was a different era and it’s nice to revisit occasionally. I just wish they could have worn the throwback uni a time or two during this juggernaut phase we’re going through now.

Yeah, the creamsicle uniforms looked bad when we played in the nfc central division, outdoors in Green Bay and Chicago, but indoors at Atlanta or New Orleans they will look fantastic, nice change pace, can’t wait to see Tom in the Orange!!!

The losing was brutal, but that look represents Sundays with my Dad at the Sombrero and I will rep Bruce for all time. The Jameis/Gerald/Aguayo-era unis, though, need to be erased from history. Nothing salvageable there.

This is fantastic news. The throwbacks are all about nostalgia. As terrible as we were in the creamsicles—and we were historically bad—there were some great early years playoff runs and great individual efforts from Selmon, Giles, Williams, Carrier, Wilder, Woods, Green, Nickerson, Alstott and plenty other. Lamar Sparkman’s Bucco Bruce is part of our history and part of what makes being x2 World Champs so special.

After all the Losing in the orange unis, it would be good to see the Bucs smash a few teams wearing them. I did not like those White Road Togs they wore, because of the very long multiple losing streaks on the road that the Bucs would seemingly be in all the time back in the eighties.
Anyone remember the 1985 Snow Bowl in GB, with Steve Young at QB, and Steve getting up and picking snow out of his helmet lol They used a clip from that game in a Rolaids commercial back then. The Bucs were almost invisible that day with those white unis in the Snow storm that was going in Green Bay. And yes as usual the Bucs got hammered that day on the road.
The orange are fine, but those white road togs need to stay in the Dumpster of History.
