Who’s Going To Stop Vic Beasley?

Lovie had a good feel for NFC South draft plans

When the Falcons selected ferocious pass rusher Vic Beasley out of Clemson last night at No. 7 overall, Joe was hanging with former Bucs defensive end Steve White at the JoeBucsFan draft party at Pete & Shorty’s.

In so many words, White predicted Beasley will be an absolute manbeast pass rusher for the Falcons and a massive thorn in the Buccaneers’ side. It was as if White was physically feeling havoc that will engulf the Bucs’ backfield, if Tampa Bay doesn’t upgrade its game on the offensive line.

Then a Bucs fan walked up to White and declared Beasley to be Da’Quan Bowers bust, another whimper of a pass rusher out. White declared that Bowers’ college looked nothing like Beasley’s and nicely advised the fan to do his homework.

(Man, what a fun time Joe had with White and about 70 draft lovers, including golfing icon John Daly.)

When Beasley was picked, Joe thought about when Lovie Smith was asked about drafting a defensive end at the NFL Owners Meeting. Lovie quipped that he expected his NFC South counterparts to do that, and everything was in play for the Bucs.

Lovie was right. The Saints grabbed athletic freak linebacker Stephone Anthony, who should be blitz machine under Rob Ryan. The Saints also snatched arguably the top left tackle in the draft, Stanford’s Andrus Peat. (Damn that Sean Payton.)

Joe’s feeling a little soothed that Carolina opted for guard Laken Tomlinson. Joe guesses that means the Panthers really will roll with suspect free agent left tackle Michael Oher. The Bucs’ suspect right defensive ends should be able to handle him.

A Clemson DE? Ha, not to worry…..

  2. Aristotle Says:

    Haha Pete^
Do we Gamble and take a Risk on a
Talented undersized dumb pot smoking DE in Randy Gregory to get their QB
or Monster OT La’el Collins who is currently being investigate
    or some other OL man?

  3. CalBucsFan Says:

Next pick will be a bigger test for the team of Licht & Smith than the obvious pick at No. 1. Licht no doubt wants to go OL to protect the recently anointed franchise QB (Fisher) and Smith is probably chomping at the pit for a DE or OLB (Gregory or Kendricks). Tough call, need help on both sides.

My pick is in, protect the franchise!

    @Pete

LMFAO I was in the midst of writing something similar before I saw your post… Does anyone remember Gaines Adams or Daquan?

  5. JimBucsFan Says:

    Please

  6. Bucs54 Says:

the lions drafted Laken Tomlinson. Stinking Panthers took Shaq Thompson.

  7. al121976 Says:

I am not too worried about Beasley or Peat, the Saints had the best pic of our division opponents.

This post has way too much analysis and information in it. Can we please get back to crab leg photos?

  9. Curse of Gruden Says:

    No worries, Beasley’s from Clemson.

  10. LargoBuc Says:

We throw short throws that use three step drops. Then we run right at him. Beasley’s Achilles is stopping the run. Hopefully by the time we play Atlanta, Jameis has done enough to where they dont just stack against the run like EVERYONE did when Mccown was our guy. Otherwise, our left tackle may have to win some battles early and often for us. Damn im jacked about this season!

  11. JMan Says:

Who is gonna stop Jameis from embarrassing us. Already told to take photos down.

  12. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

That was a great party last night Joe, and yes, I saw and heard Steve White wince.
Both the Oregon and Pitt Tackles are to be had today, so lets all keep our fingers crossed.

  13. Dr J Says:

    Yes! Clemmings from Pitt! Nasty!

  14. Dr J Says:

Gotta protect the face of the franchise!!

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Don’t forget…..Saints had to give up Jimmy Graham to get that extra pick…..

I always love it when teams get graded for their draft when they have additional picks because of traded players….that should be taken into consideration…..as far as I’m concerned….it’s a net loss for the Saints.

225LB – Vic Beasley… Hard to get sacks when we run at him every play…

  17. Joseph Mamma Says:

What draft were you covering Joe, that’s not who Carolina picked.

  18. Luther Says:

It was Detroit that picked Tomlinson because I remember his interview after he was drafted. I’m an instant fan of that kid. Future Payton Award winner for sure.

  19. Martinii Says:

    TBBF
Graham owned us for a long time. Glad he is out of our division. I think Beasley is a few years away from his potential. I really hope we take advantage of the opportunity to cash in on some decent Ol talent tonight. Several good prospects still on the board.

  20. gotbbucs Says:

Run straight at him. I respect Steve Whites opinion, but Beasly is no Dante Fowler Jr.

  21. JFF Says:

Vic will give us fits for years. Peat is really good too and we have no one who can beat him 1on1 outside.

  22. Mike10 Says:

Pete,, my thoughts exactly! Until proven otherwise, Clemson puts together good highlight tapes for their DEnds…. and that’s it!
