About Michael Johnson

November 9th, 2014

Well, Joe has to applaud Lovie Smith today. No, not for anything he did in outwitting (?) Dixie Chicks coach Mike Smith. Joe isn’t sure that ever happened.

But Lovie, despite his decision to drop $24 million guaranteed cash in the lap of ghostly defensive end Michael Johnson, finally sacked up and decided no matter what he was paying Johnson, he could no longer justify putting him on the field.

Johnson was inactive, officially with a mysterious hand injury. The Bucs’ apparition, who has been invisible for weeks, gave way to Jacqueis Smith. While Smith didn’t make anyone forget Simeon Rice, he did have two tackles and a hit on Dixie Chicks’ quarterback Matty Ice.

Compared to the results Johnson put up, Smith had a Pro Bowl-type of performance this afternoon.

Yes, Lovie said all year that Johnson was hobbled by an ankle injury he suffered in the season opener. Joe knows for a fact Johnson was hurt back at Pittsburgh but sucked it up for two sacks (one where he was totally unblocked).

Since, you needed a microscope to find Johnson. Joe argued if he was this hobbled, Lovie needed to get him off the field because he was virtually useless.

Joe is happy Lovie had the courage to do this, and that the move produced a modicum of results from the right defensive end slot.

Not sure what I hate more…Shiano’s victory formation defense or Lovie’s trying to ice the kicker by calling time out.

  2. The Buc Realist Says:

how much is Lovie guaranteed? look what lovie is putting on the field week after week! Johnson got money with no results and so is Lovie! where is the outrage for the same exact thing Joe!!!!

  3. Lamarcus Says:

Yea yea yea….. im also watching Mark Barron become an instant star for the Rams. Omg. He not even playing coverage either. What do u know? Took Palmer out of the game. Smh

  4. WalkdaPlank Says:

Let’s not get it twisted. Barron is a bust. Just because some smarter coach knows how to use safety blitzes doesn’t mean Barron is a star.

  5. JBuc Says:

^you’re watching Mark Barron become a star? Why? Because he got his hand on Carson Palmer?

  6. Ghost Says:

Possibly the worst signing since Alvin Harper.

  7. rayjay1122 Says:

I still say we should have kept Revised instead of these scrubs we picked up.. Johnson should hang up the cleats. Koenen needs to be punted out of Tampa too.

  8. bucrightoff Says:

Of course Barron looks good. He’s being used to his strengths by coaches who choose to coach to their players strengths rather than force their scheme. Shocker.

  9. JSmalls Says:

    ^^ Hire Greg Williams

  10. rayjay1122 Says:

    Revis…gotta love auto correct.

  11. Lamarcus Says:

Lol. Barron is beasting out there. Bucrightoff r on the money

  12. WalkdaPlank Says:

People who need to go this offseason IMO:

    Liar Lovie and his staff
    Lapdog Licht
    Hawk Goldson
    Ghost Johnson
    Anthony Collins
    Love sick Logan Mankins
    EDS
    DaQuan Bowers
    Adrian Slowborn
    Michael Koenan

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I just watched McCown’s presser…..a must see…..Josh McCown put his entire heart into this game….sure a couple of very late mistakes….but he extended drives with his mobility…..
His teamates let him down with stupid penalties at crucial times…..

Bench Michael Johnson…..I don’t care if you replace him with an undrafted FA….>Bench his sorry ass!!!

  14. buccanAy Says:

Barron has a sack, 2 TFL, and 2 QB hits in his 1st start for Rams…yea coaching helps!!!!

  15. Ghost Says:

Duemig will @ least get to cream his pants watching McClown.

  16. OMG I MISS SCHIANO Says:

WalkDaPlank, I agree with every single one of those. I would maybe give Licht another year or 2, but I could be wrong.

  17. Owlykat Says:

Cut him. We at least could put another player on the roster to try out.

  18. buccanAy Says:

Have respect for McCown’s passion, but I think he played the best he possibly could…which is not good enough…Glennon has MUCH higher potential, and if Lovy was serious about winning now and in the future Glennon should be starting. Honestly, don’t know WTF Lovy is thinking anymore. Koenen has been a disaster from game 1 yet he continues to trot this dude out every Sun for more 25 yd punts……make a freakin statement and fire this dude mid-game…that was and has been atrocious!!!

  19. Ghost Says:

Plus the wipe punts to Hester WTF!!!

  20. John Sapp Says:

HEY Bucs make a real statement……. release (fire) any one or two players that walkdaplank list in his posting. That would tell me you are serious. If not then it’s just more smoke and mirros (Bull$h!t)

  21. RichBucsfan Says:

Sorry, can’t get into the emotion of another loss. It is what is and will be 1-15. There is absolutely nothing that I can say or write in a blog that will have the least influence on anything Buccaneers.

  22. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“Yea yea yea….. im also watching Mark Barron become an instant star for the Rams. Omg. He not even playing coverage either. What do u know? Took Palmer out of the game. Smh”

    ———-

He missed the tackle, HELLO!!!! Palmer fell on his own after Barron missed him. My goodness, some of you are helpless.

  23. sho-nuff Says:

As critical as I am of Hubris and the Claymation Puppet…they are aggressive in moving guys in and out…I think it’s time for them to be straight with the fans and just admit that ‘the rest of this season is all about separating the men from the boys…’
…Could you imagine if he stood up in front of the media this week and said just that?…the fakes would get exposed or kill themselves trying not to be….

  24. Buccfan37 Says:

I could see a couple of plugs on the team, but all these plugs. Man, this is plug city.

  25. Gooberville Says:

I’m sure Lovie is sleeping better Joe cause he made you happy with an inactive Johnson.

  26. Fort Myers Dave Says:

I am with walkdaplank on his “take-out” list. On a lot of NFL franchises that would be a compilation of a ****ing DECADE worth of bad signing; yet our Bucs have them collectively on one bad roster…..

Ghost said: “Possibly the worst signing since Alvin Harper.”

Yeah Ghost its a damned poor decision and could be in the top 10 blunders by the Bucs right along with Alvin Harper, drafting Bo Jackson, Broderick Thomas, Keith McCants and trading a pair of #1 draft picks to the Bengals for the Throwin’ Samoan. Most of the blunders happened under the Culverhouse watch but it looks like Lovie is trying to make us feel nostalgic for the ****ing creamsicle days as this team could do something NO Buc team has ever done before in losing 15. They go 14 Ls in ’76, ’83, ’85’ & 86; this team could be the least talented bunch of garbage since the ’76 squad which is unfair to compare to as they were a full draft of other teams cast-offs. L&L only wasted $$$ and a 4th rounder on a few cast-offs so far like Johnson, McClown, Collins & Mankins. But given time these morons could find a place in ineptitude right up there with the Culverhouse regimes though everyone knew Hugh the Screw did not care about wins just $: haven’t the Glazers tried to sell us the winning snake-oil with this Lovie hire???????

  27. Mike10 Says:

Ha – girlfriend says, “so wait, I get free $hit, $24 million, and no brain damage. I want that job!”

Michael Johnson = smartest man on the team

  28. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Most of this teams issues are online, QB, LDE and RDT.

    HERE’S THE REAL LIST

    Keep Lovie.

    Fire Frazier.
Hire Rod Marinelli, who Lovie originally wanted.

    Fire Aroyyo.
    Forget Tedford.
Hire good OC with a proven track record.

    Cut McCown in off season.
    Keep Glennon as a backup.
    Draft the best QB available.

Keep Johnson. Sorry girls. Blame Licht for giving him a bad contract.
Draft a good DE for the other side in round 2.

Trade EDS in off season before draft.
Cut everyone else but Mankin on online in off season. Mankin is fine, he just can’t do it all.
Use every other draft pick on online.
Get a better center in free agency.

Sign a safety to replace Baron, if a good one doesn’t float to the top.

Try to find a good DT to play next to GMC. Keep Spence as backup.

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

And, BTW, I warned EVERYONE that finding a good center is something the Bucs have always struggled with. Licht screwed the team when he got rid of Zuttah. EDS has cost us too many games.

Can’t trade anymore players until after the season.

You get Rod in here, he’ll get Michael Johnson and the rest of the dline playing great. Jerry Jones refused to let him go a year early, but after this season he is a free man.

Lovie has this team closer than you all think. The online and qb spots are in the worse state.

  30. Fort Myers Dave Says:

Buc Bonzai makes a great point concerning Zuttah. what did the Bucs get for him: a 5th rounder in 2015 if I recall right. What will that 5th rounder get? A project, perhaps a new punter or the chance to move up a few spots in the 3rd or 4th round which will be into the previous round as the Bucs will be picking somewhere in the top 3 depending on how the Jags and raiders finish. Man a versatile guy like Zuttah is sorely missed. Could the Bucs have won a couple of games with him under center???? I’d say yeah maybe one or 2, but ya know 3-6 is helluva lot better than 1-8 from a morale (fan and player) standpoint though it will kill your draft position (see last year’s upset win of Lions move Bucs from 3rd to 7th) Wonder if he got the heave-ho as he was a Rutgers product and thus a Schiano guy though he was drafted at the tail end of the Gruden era????

  31. Buc'It Says:

    @Bonzai

So for the most I entirely agree with your off season list but are you really suggesting cutting Demar Dotson?? Despite the oline struggles he brings it week in and week out. I would personally slide him to LT and target RT in a early/mid round.

  32. Bucamania Says:

Of course they should’ve kept Revis over a bunch of scrubs. L&L really crapped the bed this offseason. Penn>Collins. Revis>ATV. Zuttah>EDS. ANYONE>MJ.
