ESPN: Trade Chris Godwin

November 6th, 2026

“Ira, who should I trade?”

Joe gets the logic here, but Joe will also wonder if the Bucs should take it a step further.

Dan Graziano of ESPN threw out a name in a recent piece about teams that ought to be active before Tuesday’s trade deadline.

After watching the Bucs go full-blown Woody Hayes on teams the past two weeks with a bludgeoning run offense and very few passes (a grand total of seven completions total in two weeks), Graziano wonders why the Bucs are hanging onto Chris Godwin if they can get a nice return for him.

Who could be on the move? Wide receiver Chris Godwin Jr. The Buccaneers haven’t completed a pass in their past 15 drives, and they’ve won their past two games. If you don’t ever need to throw it, what are you doing with all of these wide receivers?

Well, Joe will take that logic a step further. If the Bucs have given up on the forward pass, then why do they need Baker Mayfield? Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht could probably fleece Baltimore for Mayfield. With Lamar Jackson hurt, Baltimore is in panic mode.

It would suck dumping Mayfield, but man, when is the last time Mayfield had a good game? The win over San Francisco last October, maybe?

No, Joe doesn’t think Licht has any inclination or desire to trade Mayfield. For obvious reasons. Nor should he. But when you have to go back a calendar year to find the last time your starting quarterback had a good game, Joe’s guessing you have a really mierda de pollo passing attack.

Bucs should’ve traded Tom Brady when they had the chance. To get some return for him. He didn’t do anything for the franchise.

  2. Lightningvinny1 Says:

No one is going anywhere , in fact , could the Bucs be buyers ,, Brian Thomas Jr for one of JLs precious picks , that would spice up the WR room … Not a lot of deficiency’s on this team , if they can pass block better , if Baler can throw , if the WRs can get separation ,, who knows ,, until then , knock the snot out of the other team!!

  3. SlyPirate Says:

    LOVE THE IDEA!!!

    Licht doesn’t have the stones.

  4. Lewi Says:

50 bucks says if we trade Godwin we will desperately miss him later in the season

and get what, a 4th or 5th round pick for a dependable safety net??

    No thanks

  5. adam from ny Says:

    hypothetical:

    what if:

the bucs go road grade crazy and rush for 400 yards…this time in front of a national audience…control the clock for 36-38 minutes…and win 23-10

    i’ll tell you…

the nfl world would lose it’s sh!t…because we just changed the entire fuggin’ blueprint of the nfl…

once again this is just hypothetically speaking 🙂

  6. PSL Bob Says:

I don’t know Joe. Now that the o-line is playing better, maybe they can give him the protection to allow him to go through his progressions and improve his accuracy. During the first four games, eems like he was in panic mode everytime he dropped back to pass.

  7. Joe Bob Pigskin Says:

Man, you like to stir the pot. Godwin isn’t going anywhere and neither is Baker.

  8. Bejeezusbelt Says:

Not many receivers can block like Chris Goodwin can. Granted he wants the ball in his hand I’m sure. But now if this is the offense we are going to run I would say Godwin is more valuable than Mayfield because of his blocking. I’m still confused why we couldn’t do this in the second half of the Pittsburg game. I swear Byron Leftwhich was calling plays in the second half. Every first down, run behind center no gain or loss of downs. This year has been really hard watch from the offensive standpoint. Hate to say Bowles defense looks legit, but why five years?

  9. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

    Everyone’s a GM.

  10. ATLBuc Says:

Joe, I said a while ago that we should Trade Baker. How many teams’ #1 QB is injured? I don’t want to trade Chris but he is being wasted here and like a great teammate, he doesn’t grumble or ask to be traded but trading he and Baker would give us some nice toys come draft time. And, we could still make the playoffs.
I think the determining factor should be if our run game punishes the Bears like we did the Falcons, they should go because we know its sustainable.

  11. Obvious Says:

The idea is great….fleecing Baltimore. But given that the cap ramifications and the ravens have their own qb coming up for an extension it’s fantasy land.

But in theory if you could get a 2 from Baltimore or any team w/o the cap problems, yeah you do it in a heart beat. Also – trading Godwin, vea and Diaby are all no brainers.

We have at least one more season with mayfield. The cap hit can be managed for ‘28. But the right offensive HC can help baker resurrect his career again next year hopefully with enough value to get something for him in ‘28.

  12. BucVoyager Says:

Baker is untradable because he just signed a new contract and to even think we could have traded Brady is funny.

  13. Joe from Michigan Says:

Why would we get rid of one of the best blocking WRs in the league? And Mayfield’s experience helps diagnose the defense so he can flip which side the run goes to or change to a different run play completely based on how the defense lines up.
    Pound da Bears!
    Go Bucs!

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The Bucs have not abandoned the pass, so it’s pointless to claim they have. The last two games were run-focused because of Baker’s recovering thumb and the rain.

The Bucs know they cannot sustain the wins by only running the ball. Teams will start planning for it and stopping the run…and we would be two injuries away from losing our run game.

It’s not sustainable. The Bucs will have to start passing the ball, probably this week.

As to trading Godwin, it won’t happen… unfortunately. I would be in favor of it because we have some great young WRs rising and Godwin is only going to get more expensive. I’m also not convinced he’s fully committed to the team mentally.

    Trading Baker is just dumb.

  15. Ricardo89 Says:

Ebuka is a younger CG. We have a #2 and a 2b. Might as well trade the older one.

  16. itzok Says:

I could have seen the Bucs trading Godwin but now he’s such a key blocker he needs to stay

If the season is over and Bowles is gone then we should trade him

If the Bucs stop the sinking ship then he has to stay

The next two week’s will tell alot

  17. TampaBayBucFan Says:

    We aren’t trading anyone….

  18. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Still $16M of dead cap tied to Chris through next season.

Our best separator in the WR room.

Easily our best blocker in the WR room

Also, the only vet in that room.

  19. Gipper Says:

    Buccaneer Bonzai,

Of course , you are right with your intelligent remarks but this is mostly not the place for intelligence. There is a hardcore group of naysayers who hate Bowles, Licht, Mayfield and so it goes. A psychiatrist would say they really hate themselves. Maybe a bad potty training or just a lifetime of living up to low expectations. In any case it is reassuring that there are a few reasonable people on these pages. Thank you.

  20. Jfgobucs Says:

Don’t believe Baker was fully healthy..
    Thumb hopefully better now
    We should see this week.

  21. Ben Says:

Problem is they dont have all these receivers when you got Egbuka on the shelf and Mcmillan on IR. I agree they should look at dealing Godwin because I don’t see them keeping him. If they can get a 3 or 4 then do it. Otherwise just keep him on the roster.

  22. Kenton Smith Says:

First off, you guys print up some doctored up photos of Kay Adams. That really ticked me off.

And now, saying that Baker hasn’t had a decent game in over a year? Are you guys trying to pi$$ off your readership?

Guess it’s better than being pi$$ed on. Barely. Oh, wait. You’re full of shlt.

  23. Smashsquatch Says:

Zero chance. Godwin is the best blocker in the WR room, and it isn’t even close. Unless ZR wants to be a trail blazer and use four TEs!

  24. KABucs Says:

You will eventually have to pass, so trading Baker would be moronic. Plus I like the idea of Daniel’s developing a little more on the bench.
Baker’s arm will end up winning a game for us pretty soon.
Why would we trade Godwin when McMillan can’t stay on the field and even Ebuka’s had some injury issues. I worry playing Tez too much is going to get him on IR as well.
Let’s wait and see how we do against Chicago before making any rash decisions.
Graziano is assuming we have a perfectly healthy receiving squad.

  25. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    Absolutely if they can
    Say !?
    How is Liam Coen doing

  26. ProffeserVonBrainStorm Says:

Trading Baker makes the most sense. His downfield blocking should have teams interested.

The forward pass is now in the dust bin of history thanks to Todd Bowles.

We’re going to run the ball 60 times a game going forward and should win every game from now on. Pure genius.

I heard that Todd wants to bring back leather helmets as well. He’s a guru.

  27. JimBobBuc Says:

Graziano and Joe will say just about anything to stir the pot and get hits.

  28. Allen Lofton Says:

I don’t know of a single team in the NFL that can win consistently without a passing game. The weather conditions last Sunday in Tampa made throwing the ball nearly impossible. Baker attempted a forward pass that went backwards. He fumbled the ball 3 times under the center. The conditions were impossible for both Quarterbacks. In the NFL a balanced attack is the standard of survival. Ask any coach or player and the universal response is a resounding yes.

  29. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

Godwin won’t be on the team next year so trade him!
I love Chris but he is lower body is shot .
    Bring up Garrett Green!

  30. MonsVenusVIP Says:

F it. Start running the triple option and the wing-t. Coach John Castelamare would be proud.

  31. Doughboy Says:

Trade, trade, trade. Baker,Vea,or Godwin. Anyone with high value. Be stupid if you didn’t. No Super Bowl this year for sure. Haven’t seen Baker play a great game since last year Seattle game.

  32. Rob Says:

Is espn really dumb enough to think the Bucs will never throw again?

  33. Mike C Says:

Is this madden franchise mode??? Smh

  34. Steven007 Says:

The professor made yet another sarcasm! This must be your new thing. I think I like it. But I kind of miss the Todd hate. Just kidding. And where are all the numbers that used to be in your posts? Keep it up boy, you’re on to something. 👍

  35. Mistermarty Says:

Number one Joe Bucs fan is the best. Have jammed both my thumbs like Baker. Taking snaps under center hurts more than throwing. Probably what led to fumbled snaps. Accurate throws short and long are affected most and it’s not Mayfield’s strength. Which may mitigate the injury.

Godwin must stay, we would miss him later for sure. We have a capable back up QB, so more designed runs with Mayfield and passes that don’t require exact accuracy. Used to be able to chuck it deep to Evan’s and he would fight off single coverage or draw defensive interference.

At some point Godwin needs to fake short out and go deep. Sure he can come back and get the ball with his excellent hands. Also reel routes with Irving would be an option. Receivers need to know accuracy may not be perfect.

  36. Winny Testaverde Says:

Baltimore would take on Baker’s contract? Come on now. Doubtful any team would assume Godwin’s contract either if we’re being honest. Licht wouldn’t trade either anyhow.

  37. can-we-get-rid-of-Licht-for-godsake? Says:

JL isn’t doing any trading – he’s not gonna do anything at all – he just came out of the closet last week and tiptoed over to the sideline to get some face time with the team – he spends the rest of the week drinking bourbon with Arians and watching replays of SuperBowl LV – and it’s just a rumor but one of the assistant equipment managers said that he caught someone rummaging through the bin containing soiled uniforms after last week’s game – the man was seen sniffing the soiled items and rubbing them over his body but then ran off when spotted – the employee said that the man was heavyset and resembled Fred Flintstone

  38. Jimmy Says:

Where did Ira get his capri pants from?

  39. can-we-get-rid-of-Licht-for-godsake? Says:

I apologize – I made a grievous error – I stated that Jason Licht would not do anything to help the team at the trade deadline – incorrect – he made a “splash” move on Wednesday – he traded out G Luke Haggard for G Trevor Keegan – how could I have forgotten ? JL is beefing up the O-Line – way to go Jason – more grist for the rumor mill : Jason Licht is weighing offers to appear as a guest on either Dancing With The Stars or RuPaul’s Drag Race – JL wants to raise the profile of the Bucs nationally and is looking for PR opportunities

  40. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    can-we
I think Keegan is going to get worked out at CENTER
he has played at 330+ and just recently dropped his weight to the low 300’s

  41. bucnjim Says:

If there was ever any doubt why Evans left, this should solidify it. The day Robinson was signed the writing was on the wall. This was going to be a ball control team with little passing (especially deep) That would mean his main duty was to block. Of course in his mind that means more risk of injury. Godwin most likely has the same mindset that my last year or two in Tampa will be spent blocking.
