Zac Robinson, The Bucs Offense And Worthless Preseason Games
October 1st, 2026
Bucs OC Zac Robinson.
You know Joe’s stance on worthless preseason games. Those atrocities are only good for one thing: building revenue for orthopedic surgeons.
For the preseason-games-are-so-vital crowd: You are aware the Bucs last won a Super Bowl without playing one worthless preseason game, right? Also, are you trying to tell Joe if Baker Mayfield played in two additional preseason games, he would have realized he may not want to fumble three times in Week 1?
“This Joe” has no use for preseason games but Joe does try to keep an open mind.
Today, Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson was due for his weekly media availability. And boy, Joe has to hand it to Robinson. He’s slick. There aren’t too many people Joe has seen who can string together several different clichés to answer a question without really answering it.
In some circles, this is known as “word salad.”
Here was Robinson’s response about why the Bucs offense is struggling to protect Baker Mayfield. Somewhere in there, Joe has a hunch Robinson suggested the offense isn’t yet playing as a cohesive unit.
“Yeah, I think each game is kind of its own story with it. You know, like you mentioned, Minnesota – hats off to them, they do a great job. Obviously, the tape from the previous two games going into it, they’ve been doing that to each opponent. We felt like we had a good plan going in, but it is all 11 [players] being on the same page. I think that’s been kind of the theme of the season just in general – hey, we might have 10 guys all doing the right fundamentals, techniques, everything that shows up throughout the practice week and then it’s one guy here, one guy there. Execution will always be what offense is all about, and I think that’s been some of our setbacks in some of those instances. We’ve just got to play all together, 11 as one. That is from the quarterback to the protection, whether it’s a back-end protection, a tight end protection, [we’ve] definitely got to clean some of those things up. It’s been happening too often, but that’s why you practice. That’s why you grow and get better game to game. So, we’re looking forward to the next opportunity [so we can] get some of those looks and knock it out and be in good shape.”
So Joe followed up asking Robinson if the offense should have logged more snaps in the worthless preseason. Robinson, thankfully, wouldn’t go there.
“I don’t believe so,” Robinson said. “We get so many real practice reps with our defense, especially facing pressure looks.
“Again, each week is so much different from what defenses are presenting, but I’ve never felt like that’s been an issue.”
That was one of the most direct answers Joe has received from Robinson. Touché!
Well, that offensive cohesion is out the window now. Your starting QB is out for maybe three weeks (three weeks isn’t always three games).
Now, there are just two real goals for the offensive line: Make holes for Bucky Irving and try to keep Jalon Daniels upright.
And then, pray Daniels rises to the occasion.

Or you run a terrible scheme. That didn’t adjust. Based on your history of bad offense

The only time the offense looks good is when they’re playing Bowles’ defense in practice.

If Daniels goes 3-0, I pray that they make up some injury excuse for Baker in order to keep Danirls as QB1. 🙏
I honestly expect a winning streak to commence with Daniels at the helm.

He basically said everybody, but Baker was playing fundamental football

2 things. The offense should be getting better each game. However it appears to be getting worse. Bad move by Bowles and Licht. They miss White something awful. He was spot on in his statement. The Bucs said they would go with the hot hand. Last year we all saw it and the stats proved it. White was better most if not all of the season. Gainwell for all the hype is not been doing well. I sure hope they give Tucker touches soon. Right now this offense has nothing to lose!!. I am looking forward to Daniels because he can’t be much worse than Baker has been. The same goes for Tucker. The O Line, I don’t know. They are not playing well and we have no depth. Funny we all got fooled.we thought the offense was going to prop up the defense. It appears not. Well the defense was better last game hopefully the offense and defense can both play well. That would be amazing.

I don’t know about a winning streak, but this game is a no brainer. Bucs win and along with that they cover the spread for the first time in a long while. The losing streak stops here and LeFleur leaves Tampa with the hottest coaches seat. Bowles gets a temporary reprieve. No matter what happens going forward, Baker will be fine. He always lands on his feet. I will always root for him because he’s not only a very good quarterback as well as an entertaining one, but he’s a great person. Daniels seems like a great kid and I am rooting for him to ball out! Bucs 27-17.

You are aware that noooooooooooooobody played preseason games that year! (even playing field)

Preseason? Only 3 games is ridiculous. That is not enough games to put a quality product on the field for most teams. Used to be 4 games. Then the CBA: reduced the number of workouts and practices even before preseason. What? If you don’t train for it and practice it, how can you suddenly be ready for it week 1? Never mind injuries are out of control because of these things.

Bad Oline
Bad WRs
Bad TEs
Bad Offensive Coordinator
New offensive scheme every year
I’ll never understand how anyone thought this would be a good team, much less a contender.
The good part is we have the key components.
QB,RB, both Tackles.
We can draft and sign the other components over the next 2 years.
Good Coaching will help a lot, too.

GMC Hater
That’s exactly why the preseason games have value.
I note that Zac wasn’t asked if he thought preseason games were worthwhile….

What’s he doing in practice this week to correct all the mistakes? Same question goes for Coach Bowles. And Coach Smith. Whatever they’re practicing, it must be too sloppy. Arians didn’t stand for that.

This pathetic fanbase was saying the exact same thing in 2024
Baker Mayfield was sacked 13 times in Coen first 3 games
And this pathetic fanbase wanted Coen fired
Baker Mayfield has been sacked 13 times in Zach first 3 games
Just go back and take a look at the archives
This clueless fanbase is always whining about something
