“It Is Minor But It’s Major”
October 6th, 2026
The Bucs have a good run defense, but it tends to fall apart when Vita Vea is off the field.
Such was the case Sunday against the Packers.
Kaleb Johnson (who?) took a handoff for Green Bay and scampered 31 yards up the gut. He wasn’t touched until he was seven yards downfield, and then came the missed tackles. (Video below)
Todd Bowles told the Buccaneers Radio Network after the game that the Johnson run was one of three misses in his vaunted run defense.
“Thought we let three runs out that shouldn’t have got out; that we ought to play better,” Bowles told Jay Recher. “And you know, we were very good at that and that didn’t happen. So, they led to [Green Bay] holding the ball a little bit more from a time standpoint. It is minor, but it’s major.”
Major indeed, when a game is tight. Packers running backs combined for 85 yards on 19 carries. In Week 3, Green Bay ran for 17 total yards behind their struggling offensive line.
Kaleb Johnson breaks out a 31 yard run, the longest of his young career!
He already has more yards in 3 games with the Packers than he did in 10 games with the Steelers his rookie year. https://t.co/56tuTX9knz

sorry, but the run defense is only good because nobody has to run against the Bucs. Just throw a pass to the TE and get whatever yards you want. Why run?
October 6th, 2026 at 11:12 am
The Bucs have a good run defense until Mr. Bijan Robinson takes the field…….muahahahahaha

Todd teaches tackling, say no more.

What was Rosebloom looking at??
October 6th, 2026 at 11:24 am
I’m not sharp on X’s and O’s, and obviously do not know the defensive play call but WTF is Anzalone doing staring off to his right? Shouldn’t he be keyed on the RB and Gap? Looks like a standard running play where he should be going downhill to meet the RB in the Gap and stop that play for 3, maybe 4 yards.
October 6th, 2026 at 11:25 am
My apologies, that’s Rozeboom, not Anzalone.

Falcons put up 45 last night. Penix looked good. So has Young. Anybody still think we have the best QB in the division is as clueless as Jason Licht. What we have is the most over paid QB in the division. Same with the roster. Commentators raved about Atlanta’s O line. They fired our OC, and now they’re scoring 45 in a game. We are the worst team in the NFC south. Thanks Jason, Todd, and most of all our clueless owners the Glazer family. Please sell the team.

October 6th, 2026 at 11:57 am
When Todd was losing with Tom Brady that was the time to get the rot out of here and those judging anyone even baker Mayfield with this ass hat running the team give it a rest.

i dont even think bowles believes his BS anymore lol
GO BUCS!!!!!
October 6th, 2026 at 12:17 pm
The Bucs have the NFL’s 4th ranked defense.
This last game they gave up 17 points, which included the refs literally giving the Packers 2 TDs.
The defense also had 3 turnovers, which the refs turned into 2 turnovers.
Complaining about the defense is fake news.

Bowles is a poor coach and our Team is awful – it’s minor but it’s major.
October 6th, 2026 at 1:41 pm
“It is minor, but it’s major.”
This is an example of why Jason Licht needs to give the man a longer extension. The awareness and recognition to diagnose and describe the issue is another example of Todd’s genius. That’s Mensa level.

Hodad… neither of those QBs are likely to put up 4500 yards and 41 TDs… you know like Baker only 18 short months ago.
SMH. 12 months ago Baker was 6-2 and in the MVP conversation.
You guys are nuts.
You know what Penix and Young have? Good coaching.
It’s that simple you nimrods. I hate that I have devolved to name calling recently but you guys are driving me nuts. Look around the league. Some of you must only watch the Bucs and huff paint outta paper bags afterwards.
October 6th, 2026 at 2:04 pm
Munch… they have played 3 of the worst offenses in the league!
The dolphins on the road, denied Minny a TD and allowed 15 points. The Falcons allowed 7 to the Packers on the road.
A competent coach that didn’t regress his players and values an edge rush would have the #1 D right now!
Bucs D has the 31st or 32nd ranked pressure rate.
You guys carry 0 context with you before spouting stupidity.
Bowles has been and still is the problem. Now he has a somehow less competent than him OC and the results speak for themselves.

So Rod,
You’re saying we should retain the guru?
October 6th, 2026 at 3:28 pm
Most people should want Todd retained. He’s more than just a guru.
October 6th, 2026 at 3:42 pm
We will see how good this defense is on Thursday. No pass rush. We can’t tackle. And we still play 10 yards off the ball. We blitz but can’t get home and even move a QB off his mark. Don’t let the numbers fool you. Bucs have played the pedestrian law firm of Murray, Watson and Love. It’s a group effort why the Bucs suck and it will be the defense’s turn Thursday night. Dak is gonna light us up like a Christmas tree.
October 6th, 2026 at 4:17 pm
Remember when the premise of the defense was stop the run so they can tee off on the qb? You know with a pass rush? Pepperidge farm remembers
October 6th, 2026 at 4:55 pm
Penix will prove to be the worst in the division. With that running attack. He also gets a lot of cheap yards on short passes to Robinson. The Falcons have arguably the best running game in the league. They definitely have the best running back in this he game. He has a very slow release and is inaccurate. Young and Shough are way better than Penix.
October 6th, 2026 at 4:57 pm
You are of course correct Rod. 0 sacks vs 3 backup O-linemen. the packers had the most yards for the year vs the Bucs. Brilliant Muncher.
October 6th, 2026 at 5:02 pm
I don’t know where you get your info Mucher, but the Bucs are 27th in combined tackles and 26th in sacks. Yea, the defense is just awesome.
With all the investment that was put into the from 7, all the “beef” they added, I think we should all expect better than that.
October 6th, 2026 at 5:03 pm
We have not even played a good offense yet.
Dallas is going to destroy the Bucs D. It is going to get very very ugly.
October 6th, 2026 at 5:59 pm
I hope the Bucs play well against Dallas. I don’t think they have a real shot at winning, but if we go into Dallas and screw the pooch and we get blown out on National Television that would definitely be a low point for this franchise. If that happens Heads may roll or a head may roll as in the offensive coordinator. That really is the only move Bowles can make to buy him more time. We have 10 days until the next game and it only make sense that if Bowles is going to make a move it may be after the game.
