Mental Weakness Continues To Plague Bucs

The Bucs have been soft for about 11 months.
Too long. It is said a team reflects its head coach.
Maybe that’s a wacky cliché. But it is one that largely has stood the test of time.
The Todd Bowles Bucs have lost 9 of 11 games dating back to last season, courtesy of mistakes, bad tackling and soft play.
Today, the now bumbling Bucs lost to the garbage Browns. Keep in mind a story broke in Cleveland today about quarterback Deshaun Watson that would be a major distraction for most teams. The Browns also had a significant flight delay flying to Tampa. They were diverted to Orlando because of weather and had to land to refuel, and then fly back to Tampa.
But nothing was going to stop Cleveland from making the Bucs look weak.
Yeah, it is that bad.
Bowles made a lot of offseason changes to shake the stink and softness out of the Bucs. It hasn’t worked.
A month ago, Baker Mayfield the Bucs would shock people this season. They sure have.

This game epitomizes bad play calling and a lack of trust in the defense. They had 2 minutes to move the ball 20 yards. They tried to run the ball and run the clock because they didn’t trust the defense. Todd must go!

I am really not iimpressed by this team. The passing game is really bad, the screens are not effective. Baker is not accurate at throwing deep passes. The Mid passes are decent but not frequent enough. The Run game is decent. The pass rush doesnt seem existent and tackling is not great.

I literally won’t watch another Sunday while he’s head coach. I mean if you can’t beat the Browns at home who can you beat??? It’s just depressing and not fun at all. I never thought much of our new Offewnsive Coordinator when he was in Atlanta. Couple that with Bowles refusal to hire a Defensive Coordinator. And well, then Bowles himself. Thats 3 strikes guys. Everyone that watched this game saw Baker Mayfield throw a terrible pick, miss wide open receivers all day, and say him miss a wide open e2 to win the game.

The Glazers never let a head coach go during any season. They may find a reason to keep him. So, get used to this. It won’t change soon. The meddling owners got involved the week before the season began, directly contacted the Baker reps, and got a deal done.

Good thing we fired Grizzard. I mean, good for him. Baker is 2-9 in his last 11 starts. Still injured? Pull something lifting that big bag of money Licht gave you? He’ll be an expensive bridge QBs. Bucs could very well draft their future, with a new GM, HC next season. That has to be the plan, right? This organization needs a house cleaning.

I find it hard to believe that the Bucs front office signed the mediocre Mayfield to that huge contract. I’m thinking the Bucs need to start fresh next year with a new coaching staff, draft a QB in this rich for QB’s upcoming 2027 NFL draft and let him compete on his rookie contract with Mayfield. Yes, the Bucs will have to ultimately eat the Mayfield mistake contract. As I understand the third year is not guaranteed. Acknowledge that huge mistake and move on.

@Rod Munch – Even IF you are correct about LICKT on the Baker Extension, LICKT still shares PLENTY of the BLAME 💯. He’s HORRIBLE. And, he’s always been HORRIBLE. On top of that, I believe that the Glazers CAVED in most part, BECAUSE OF “Lickt.” I think he was 💯 onboard with it all the way, from THE JUMP. 💯 It’s just way too typical of a “Lickt-Move,” and just going by everything HE SAID… I just think that the pressure started building, and got to ALL OF THEM. Then, that Athletic article came out and the commercials, and having to CONSTANTLY answer for it in literally, EVERY interview… It was just OVER. They are WEAK. And, STUPID.

No one should question that Baker has not played well. I can’t take anyone seriously that does not understand simple NFL structure. The GM and coach are directly responsible for who plays week to week. In case some people have had their head in unusual places plenty of coaches have been fired for bad quarterback play. And lots of good coaches have developed mediocre QB’s. unfortunately some people let grudges against players cloud their judgement.

Please start Daniels since everyone thinks he’ll be a better option. I hope I’m wrong, but I know, it’s not gonna matter. This team stinks in so many areas.
Our offense is predictable…again.
Our o-line is horrendous, getting any QB smooshed in the pocket.
Baker, when he did have time, overthrew passes, that our mediocre receivers wouldn’t have probably caught anyway, but you gotta have more accurate passes, even on 50/50 balls.
The defense can’t ever hold a lead. The coverage is too soft and slow, and the missed tackles are mind-blowing.
You can try to fix the inaccurate passes, but even then, how many opportunities will we get to stretch the field when the QB is under constant pressure and we don’t really have legitimate receivers, and the passing scheming is so bad.

Disgraceful performance l. $165M QB, poor defense agains a terrible offensive team, atrocious offensive play calling. Pathetic offensive line play. No easy answers. blow the whole thing up. Paying mayfield was an awful strategic move, even for those of us who like him and wish him well. My goodness, 6-11 is not out of the question! Glad I’m not tied to 2027 season tickets.

If Baker didn’t singlehandedly lose 6 of the last 7 games, the Bucs win all those games, the Bucs make the playoffs last year, and the Bucs are 2-0 to start this year, and no one is talking about Licht or Bowles.
Baker is tanking this team all by himself. He’s not giving them a chance to win, collapsing in big moments, he’s been a complete bum for nearly an entire calendar year.

NOPE. That could’ve been (somewhat of) the plan, but that ship already done SAILED, with the Baker-Extension. And, Jascum LICKT. I’ve heard from “someone who usually knows things” – a good close ‘inside’ source. That, COEN possibly would not have taken that job under Lickt… That, being able to ‘handpick’ his own GM was the ‘main reason’ he left and took the JAX job. It was THE sweetener that pushed him over the edge.

Baker shouldn’t throw deep until he can hit the intermediate passes on a regular
basis. Bowles didn’t lose the game but he didn’t help. It takes cahones to win in the NFL. Too many times he has chosen to coach conservatively and it cost us.
But I am sure he expected better play from his franchise QB. His multiple overthrows allowed Browns to stay close. When will Bucs GM and coach give up on the Barton at center conversion.

This team is a reflection of the coach. Bowles is mediocrity defined and the Bucs are failing to even meet that standard. Keeping Bowles and resigning Baker prematurely showed the Glazers are not serious.
