Zyon McCollum Has A Groin Injury

August 12th, 2026

Bucs No. 1 cornerback Zyon McCollum watched the last two practices against the Jets in sweatpants as a spectator.

That’s always a bad sign when a guy isn’t even jogging with a trainer during practice.

In a sitdown with JoeBucsFan.com this afternoon, Todd Bowles said McCollum has a groin injury and is “coming along.” Bowles did not offer a return timetable. Based on how Bowles responded, it seems highly unlikely McCollum will play in the preseason.

Oh boy, groin injuries are tricky. If you don’t let it heal, it’ll continue to get worse. This sucks. I remember when the Bucs got Joey Galloway back in the day and he couldn’t plsy when he got to the Bucs due to a groin injury. Took him a while to get on the field.

I hope he’ll be ready week one. Jeez, CB room thinner than a sheet of paper.

Zyon will go down as the absolute worst contract extension Licht has made as GM.

It was stupid then, and it’s even stupider now. Rewarded for one single year of slightly above average pay… unreal.

    Bookmark my words.

    *slightly above average play.

His pay is waaaaaaay above average

  4. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

We must add CB depth. If not, Licht should not only be canned, he should be admitted to a local psych ward.

  5. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

Because, of course he does. What are the chances that the Malingering Brothers play much this year? Will Morrison play in 6 games? I’m taking the under.

  6. SummerofGeorge Says:

Another kick to the beans as it were.

I’ll bet he isn’t bored now.

  7. buc4evr Says:

Licht must think that these losers in the secondary are actually going to make it through the season. This just a continuation of the last three seasons. Maybe Winfield is a true starter, but the rest are just third string scrubs that can’t get out of the hot tub. Another season down the tubes because the Bucs did nothing to improve the piss poor secondary.

  8. jimmy Says:

its not a groin injury, it’s just bored.

  9. Lefty_R Says:

Then invite Terrion Arnold for a conversation at One Buc Place!

  10. Bucnjim Says:

    buc4evr, I haven’t heard Winfield’s name once yet.

  11. BucsFan2023 Says:

When he gets bored with his groin injury he will play

  12. Bobby Says:

A groin injury, you know I’m starting to get JTS vibes from Zyon McCollum. McCollum’s physical attributes and potential ceiling is that of a star in the NFL. But I don’t see Zyon McCollum who gets bored while making millions of dollars to play football on tv in front of millions of people….I don’t believe he is ever getting to that point where he is going to be a number 1 shutdown down yiur an opposing teams best receiver in a consistent basis. Additionally I’m starting to wonder if Bowles is capable of developing his own rookie drafted cornerback into a shutdown down corner… i have a wild idea, put Zyon McCollum on the trade block and see what teams offer?? Take a chance on Trevon Diggs and get a pick for Zyon McCollum. Use some the money that will open up after Zyon McCollum to give Vita a pay bump. Interesting?

  13. Kgh4life Says:

Terrion Arnold will eventually be suspended from games, not sure when or how many.

I posted this in the wrong thread. My bad Joes.

Pound the over and the over on Burrow’s passing yards and make it a triple taking Cincy and the points. Seems like a no-brainer. I’ll eat my crow later but that offense is gonna crush it this year. Yikes.

  15. ElioT Says:

Zyon learned from the best in Davis and Dean

  16. Hodad Says:

This is why the Glazers told Licht, hold off on any extensions. Just in case we go in another direction next season, want to keep our options open.

  17. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    Can a groin get bored?

  18. Defense Rules Says:

Right now it looks like we’ll have McCollum, Morrison, Parrish, Scott, Hayes & possibly another rookie (Ayden Garnes?) to start the season (not sure if Bowles will go with 5 or 6 CBs). We desperately need another quality CB who could start outside if need be.

I don’t know how many JBFers remember Dee Delaney, but he did spend 3 years with us so he probably knows Bowles’ defense as well as anyone who’s available right now. He last played for us in 2023 (his best year with us actually), but we didn’t re-sign him so he signed with the Bills but got injured in Training Camp (and got an injury settlement after that). Hasn’t played with any NFL team since then, but the reports said he was all healed up.

Delaney was never one of my personal favorites, but hey, you never know. Might be worth a look-see. He’s only 31 right now.

FINALLY! An injury that isn’t a hammy

    _______

Mine does occasionally but I think it’s is age related.

  21. Football 1 Says:

Well I don’t wish injury upon either McColumn or Morrison. However, I do believe the bench is where they belong. Hopefully with the status of these 2 Licht does what he should have done months ago. Go get a legitimate cb!!!!

“Mine does occasionally but I think it’s is age related.”

    DooshLaRue for the win!

  23. Rod Munch Says:

Rather it happen now than happen during the season.

  24. sethery goodfellow Says:

so now we’re down to 1 starting corner who has never started outside. let’s get a mid tier vet in here ASAP.

  25. Bee Says:

    DR

I remember Dee. The Bucs should call him. If Eli Apple is available call him too. They need bodies BAD….

  26. Hodad Says:

Sorry DR, but you’re hoping we have Morrison, and Zyon to start the season. Have zero faith Morrison will play, and Zyon? Trust him slightly more.
