Vita Vea Signs One-Year Contract Extension

The big bad beast of the Buccaneers’ defensive line will play for Tampa Bay this season.
Vita Vea has a fresh contract extension, per NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN, so he wrote on X.
“ESPN sources: Two-time Pro-Bowl DT Vita Vea and the Buccaneers reached agreement today on a one-year extension for $30 million, tying him to Tampa Bay for two more seasons. He gets $6 million in new money this season.
As Sage of Tampa Bay Sports Ira Kaufman has said many times, the Bucs didn’t sign a bunch of veteran defensive players this season only to let Vea walk.
Still, as Kaufman said, Bucs management was not going to be pushed around by Vea’s trade demand. Apparently, that’s exactly what happened.
So Vea gets a raise for this season and a giant deal for 2027.
Good for him. Good for the Bucs.

Glad the Glazers, the front office and Vitas’ camp came to a resolution. Turns out, Suhs’ advice maybe cost the franchise some money, but it got Vita paid. Shouldn’t have let this drag on this long, but all in all the team gets to keep its anchor on the DLine and Vita got a bump up in pay this year and some security for next year.

Need more details, I want to see if Greenberg have himself more wiggle room under the cap this year on the strength of this deal.
Just in time for the 2nd preseason game btw. Doubt he plays, but it’ll be hilarious is his back is mysteriously healed. Said it when camp and the contract stuff started, wouldn’t be shocked to hear the franchise went along with that “injury” to buy themselves time while allowing Vita to attend practice and not pay a fine.
They could’ve easily sent him home if there were bad blood, but I think both camps worked that loophole together. Though, I’d be the first to tell you Í ever run into Veas agent I’d sock him one for that trade BS off g.p.

I mean it’s awesome to have Vea back, but this sets up a weird dynamic if Baker doesn’t get his contract before the season starts….
The guy who has one year left on deal, sits out/holds-in, not wearing Bucs logo per Garafolo, demands a trade, is “all money”, still hasn’t practiced and you reward that guy with a fat raise and what he wants
The guy who has one year left on deal, doesn’t hold out or in, didn’t demand a trade, is practicing with the boys and “all ball” and still willing to participate and play out his contract, and he doesn’t get what he wants at all
So players, if you want to get paid, don’t be a team-player & contract-obliger like Bake and instead pull the Vita shenanigans and the rewards you shall reap!

Guys, use your brains. Its a one year deal. There are no long term deals to be given and thats what Bake wants. There’s nothing more to do with Baker’s extension. No team wants Bake for more than 2 years, thats a bad bet. Bake is gonna have to suck it up and magically play well for 17 games. Lol…we know that ain’t happening.

Very similar sounding to the deal I floated from the very beginning… a 1-year extension up to $24.5-MIL. Though, I was against adding anything EXTRA to this season’s… Only guaranteeing it, along with a couple million more of next season’s. So, I wonder how much of it was fully-guaranteed!? People on here BEGGING and DEMANDING for 3-4 YEARS, & over $50+MILLION Fully-Guaranteed, & etc. Lmao. GTFO. There was NO WAY. At least now, they should still be able to move him before the deadline, if need be and the opportunity presents itself. Or, at least at the very BEGINNING on next offseason, BEFORE the DRAFT. Now, THAT was the most important thing. Otherwise, we’ll be right back here once AGAIN, for next season.

That would be CATASTROPHIC for the franchise. On just soooo many levels. It means, you are looking at our ‘ceiling’ RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW. And, that is NOT even a Top-20 TEAM. And, it will NOT and canNOT get any better. Will also be tied down with just more Lickt & Bowles, and this entire current Bucs regime. There will be SO MANY fresh young QB’s coming into the league within the next 2-years, who will be NFL READY. It would make ZERO SENSE to get tied down LONGTERM (at MAX $$), to an EXPENSIVE, old, beaten up and banged up, inconsistent and unfocused, undersized QB, who is a walking distraction, and does not elevate teammates. It makes me SICK at the thought of continuing THIS same old Lickt, Bowles, & Baker regime for the next 3+SEASONS. Just SICK. While, the rest of the league is well into the modern day NFL way of doing things. This team hasn’t had A CHANCE in a looong time now, but a whole lot of people have been FOOLED by a team who has STRUGGLED ‘mightily’ just winning the NFC SOUTH. It’s all Smoke & Mirrors. Delusional. With or without Vea, there is ZERO chance. So, his signing only makes it almost a GUARANTEE NOW, that Lickt & Bowles (and probably Baker) will be back for 2027 and beyond. It’s just a total WASTE. I stand by my previous comments. Guy held out on his team, faked an injury and milked us for what little cap room we have. It wasn’t a good look as a team player. I do think he makes our defense complete, and im glad he’s back. Let’s see what Bowles can do with a full house.

Since he draws constant double-teams from the offensive line, someone else like Bain will not face them. This is a huge deal for the long term success of our defense! We will get penetration and near constant pressure from this now elite front 7. It’s going to be a joy to watch if everyone stays healthy!

In actuality our defense only has 4 ‘expensive’ players … Vea ($23 mil this season apparently), Winfield ($21 mil this year), McCollum ($16 mil this year) and Robinson ($10 mil this year). $70 mil in salary for 4 defensive starters isn’t horrific in today’s NFL.

Ruin the cap? The Bucs have a great front office, Greenberg knows what he is doing.
We all know I think they should save the dough for the next coach but at the start of every season, AS A BUCS FAN, I put my optimism hat back on.
We can win meaningful games right now! Why save the cap. If we aren’t playing for a SB these next 2 years, why are we wasting our time around here?
Obviously I am still of the opinion that we don’t have the right coaches to climb the ultimate mountain but I always hope to be proven wrong in this regard.

the bucs were not prepared for the vita holdout…most teams never fully are…
logistically they’ve given themselves time with the new contract…
him leaving while they’ve built the defense around his was a real kick in the azz…
now they know the deal, can see how other players fit into the scheme…and draft and prepare for the future…
and inevitably actually possibly still decide & prepare to trade him in the off season…if they want to…
now the bucs are in the drivers seat, if they chose to blow it up with him over the next season or so…
something to ponder…
he actually can still be traded, moving forward, but the bucs can fully prepare for the big man’s absence…
he is key piece that would have been sorely missed this season

Anyone talking about lack of sacks doesn’t have any idea how a 3-4 defense works or what the job of a NT is. Also, they haven’t looked at other NT and even DT stats. And no, a DE in a 3-4 is not a DT – can’t stand people have just decided to change naming conventions to claim anyone playing on the DL is a DT.

One of the best move this offseason. There are more Albert Haynesworth at tackle than there are a Super Bowl winning tackles. Would’ve been a horrible decision to let him walk.
Now for Baker, earn your contract. Baker is literally inconsistent like Josh Freeman. Not being able to close out one win last year is why we are in this contract dispute. Too many fumbles and ints at key moments would do that to you.

Vita played the 15th-most snaps at his position and finished 46th in defensive stops, 29th in sacks and 21st in pressure rate. Funny how when Vita wants elite money, we’re told he’s elite. Comparing OUR FRANCHISE quarterback Bake to Josh Freeman should come with a mandatory 24 hour timeout from talking football.
Freeman had one winning season in Tampa. Baker came here after everybody had written him off, revived his career, and has helped keep this franchise relevant.
And Bake couldn’t close out ONE win last year?? Apparently the other 21 guys on the field, the defense, special teams and coaching staff were all innocent bystanders. You want to criticize the turnovers? Fair game. But Josh Freeman? That comparison didn’t just miss the uprights it landed in the Publix parking lot.

Oh the negative Nancy’s will try to spin this as a bad move.
Truth is Vita is a veteran staple of the defense and now is surrounded by a great group of young talent in Bain, Kancey, YaYa, Walker and Roberts.
This defensive front has a chance to be really good this year and Vita makes them much better.
Also, the salary cap being “ruined” is a fantasy. The cap goes up every year and the Bucs have some contracts that can easily be “re worked”. The cap can be manipulated.
