Caution, Bucs fans: KitKat-eating Bucs coach Todd Bowles indirectly warned you not to jump the gun.

David Walker is blowing up. Chris Braswell has been seen numerous times in the offense’s backfield. Dean Patterson might be a keeper at receiver.

It could be all a bit of a mirage, Bowles said.

Bowles noted players are so used to hitting/attacking the same guys, they’ve already figured out tendencies and, because of that, have an edge. So when these same stars of July and early August face new opponents in different color jerseys, those edges disappear.

“I think it’ll be good to see another scheme from a defensive and offensive standpoint, special teams as well,” Bowles said of facing the Jets in two day sof scrimmages in New Jersey next week. “We need to work against other people.

“As you practice every day, you start to memorize some things, and guys start to cheat plays and not play their technique. It’ll be good to go against somebody else.”

So, if Braswell is actually noticed on the field of play, if Walker is actually breathing on Geno Smith, if Patterson is still making unreal catches against Sauce Gardner, then it seems Bucs fans might be safe to begin buying the early training camp hype.
