Rookie QB Jalen Daniels Is Impressing His New Playcaller

August 4th, 2026

Arm talent!

Joe can’t wait for fans to see undrafted rookie quarterback Jalen Daniels play in preseason games.

He’s primed to be a fan favorite.

Daniels has a big arm and he can move — and will move and throw on the run. Fun player. How good is he? Well, that hard to gauge.

This evening at One Buc Palace, Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson held his first news conference in months.

Consider him a big Daniels fan. This is no noodle arm fourth-string camp meat quarterback.

Robinson praised Daniels’ smarts and performace, and noted he’s learning a very different scheme than what he had at the University of Kansas

“His arm is explosive,” Robinson said of Daniels. “You [media] guys have seen it out there [in practice]. There’s not a throw he can’t make or a throw he doesn’t believe he can’t make, which obviously that finding the right balance with a young cat. He’s done a great job. He just continues to learn to play the position. … Obviously, he’s got some unique ability outide the pocket. … His arm, like I mentioned, it’s one of the better ones I’ve been around.”

Joe’s not sure what the Bucs see in Connor Bazelak, who is back in camp after spending last season on the Bucs’ practice squad and a little time at third-string QB. It sure feels like Daniels has more upside.

  1. Fred McNeil Says:

Ballzac was just plain worse than Bilgewater in preseason games. Guess I’ll see Daniels next Thursday Night. Bet he starts.

  2. Baking with Robinson Says:

I would love to see him get better and better. The coach Tomlin may opt to go with him or make him QB2 next year. Time will tell.

  3. Obvious One Says:

    Bazelak…
Don’t know much about him but with Daniels catching all this praise,

    Bazelak = “meat”

  4. ATLBuc Says:

I have watched a lot of this kid’s tape and I’m telling you Baker better watch out.

  5. firethecannons Says:

Hope the Bucs feature Jalon Daniels, Ted Hurst and Tez Johnson for preseason and no more break your neck balls.

  6. Erik with Clean Athletics™ Says:

I think Daniels is our QB of the Future.

Let Baker and his big (team-crippling) salary walk out the door.

Daniels is the Man beginning next year, in my opinion.

  7. El Hefe Bucc Says:

I sure hope we can use this kid because for some reason the Bucks don’t like to use backups as long as Baker’s here

  8. Steve Says:

Trade Baker now and get some.

  9. Fishhawkbuc Says:

Slow news week? He won’t make the team.

  10. Loud Guy Says:

If by some miracle you find a starting QB like this, you have a real chance to build a dynasty. People forget Brady and Mahomes secret weapon was always available salary cap to build a team around them. Brady because he was loaded anyway and Mahomes because he was young. Its not rocket science – its math. 2 or 3 top talents at other positions equals on veteran QB. If you can find a young QB, you win.

  11. Tye Says:

July 30th, an article was hyping up Jake Browning….

My guess is neither will truly amount to much if anything…
    Just preseason filler!

  12. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Sackoballs is there to throw to the obvious camp meat and when the team wants to practice running. Who cares if he gets his foot stepped on or falls into a pile up. Hopefully or backups show themselves to be viable starters in case Mr. Pay Me More is a disruption or is injured. This way they can force feed him that bench and keep the team moving

  13. MelvinJunior Says:

I saw just enough of him in college. Not a ton. But, more than most. He’s exciting and has his moments, and it will be interesting to see him wearing a Bucs helmet. But, yeah… I’ve still seen enough to already know. BUT, if Browning isn’t more focused on the ‘right’ things, & doesn’t play A LOT smarter, better, and consistent… Then, just the ‘excitement’ factor alone, could potentially propel the kid. It’d have to be more of a ‘lightning in a bottle’ type of deal, though.

  14. MelvinJunior Says:

@ Erik Says: “Daniels is the Man beginning next year, in my opinion.”

In YOUR OPINION!? Yeah, he’s the next… wait a minute… WHO was the last ‘Undrafted’ QB to do anything in THE NFL!? Idk, Was Tony Romo drafted? How bout Jeff Garcia? Hmmmm… So, YOU THINK SO, Huh!? I mean, have you even watched HIM PLAY… You a BIG Jayhawks Fan!? Cause, that is quite the prediction there!!!!

  15. Fred McNeil Says:

I see a ton of negativity for a guy who sounds pretty good in Joe’s notes. Have I actually seen this Daniels play? No. I do suppose I will see him next week. Just like I saw Balzac last year. Honestly, I wouldn’t know who this guy was if he walked up and kicked me square in the nads. I’d bet my bottom dollar this guy starts next Thursday night. Let’s save the beatch fest for Friday Morning. August is the longest month.

  16. MelvinJunior Says:

@ Erik – Are you normally RIGHT!? Especially, on “Undrafted” Quarterbacks… Do you just have some sort of ‘special’ knack there!? OR, do you typically, JUST say stuff without any ‘real’ seriousness or substance behind it!? Cause, I might need to start keeping my eye on YOU. You might need to place some bets.

  17. Fred McNeil Says:

I’m actually talking about Daniels, not Balzac. To be clear . Balzac should learn to flip burgers…If he can.

  18. Erik with Clean Athletics™ Says:

Daniels is a poor man’s Caleb Williams, with tons of ability and potential.

And for the record, Brock Purdy was only drafted 1 pick ahead of Jalen Daniels and Purdy is pretty dang good.

  19. MelvinJunior Says:

@ Fred McNeil – I’m not against the kid. I’m only being REALISTIC here. He’s the type of player, who always looks good in PRACTICE. There is definitely something there. BUT, he doesn’t have the accuracy or QB-mindset. Especially, late in games. I mean, come on… There is a REASON for why he was UNDRAFTED. And, you’ve got people trying to say that “HE” will be our next STARTER. Now, hold up maybe just a tad here, & BE REAL. I mean, is THAT asking too much!?

  20. MelvinJunior Says:

Oh my God, Erik… Bless your heart.

  21. MelvinJunior Says:

Erik – Brock Purdy was drafted only ‘one spot’ ahead of ME.

  22. Steven007 Says:

Erik, between your mind-numbing posts here, and you talking the other day about throwing a ball 80 yd when you were 12 years old or some other horse crap, you need to lay off the meds my friend.

  23. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Arm talent, lol does that just mean it’s going far, because it’s sparingly accurate.

Maybe it’s me maybe I watch too much Saturday football, but

“Daniels is a poor man’s Caleb Williams, with tons of ability and potential.”

    what!?

  24. BuccoMarty Says:

“There’s not a throw he can’t make or a throw he doesn’t believe he can’t make.”

Know who used to have this mentality?

Jameis. And we know how that turned out.

  25. Bat Says:

I like Daniels but the kid is a UDFA. The league is hungry for stating QBs and nobody wanted him. The Kid is fighting Bazelak for a spot on the Practice Squad. Lets not forget that.

  26. Pay the Baker Man Says:

    Meet our next franchise QB.
